Hello everyone. I have an odd question I guess but can't seem to get an answer anywhere. I became pregnant 8 wks after having my second baby (big OPPS!). Due to not having a period, I had an ultrasound that showed I was 9 weeks pregnant, 1 baby, 1 h/b. Then at 11 wks I had some spotting and had another u/s by a new technician. When she had the "wand" (this was vaginal) in a certain spot, there appeared to be another set of arms and legs wiggling near the wiggling fetus in the same sac. I ask what it was, ready to vomit at the word "twin" and she, of course, said, "Might be a twin". Well, after 5 minutes of adjusting the wand and zooming in, she concluded it was just "ripples" in the fluid from the baby moving. Ok, I was fine after that. Not a second thought, until today at my dr. appointment the doc said the top of my uterus is 3 inches below my belly button...um, puts me measuring 17 weeks, though I'm only 13wks (should be accurate since they determined using baby's size). I'm not showing at all, tummy still flat but you can feel the hard uterus (I didn't show until almost 6 months with my last baby). Doc said he'd do another ultrasound in four weeks to see what's up. He said that if what we saw in u/s was a twin in the same sac, could be identical and they are missed more often than fraternal twins and said it was possible there are 2!! Ok, anyone heard of "ripples" like that or is there another reason I could be measuring four weeks ahead?? |

That's strange.. I've never heard of that.. Sounds like your having twins to me. I'd have your Dr. schedule another ultrasound sooner.

Please don't vomit!!! =O) It certainly sounds promising to me, too! Especially if even the doc mentions it. Mine wouldn't give an inch on my twin theory, even after I told her I had prayed for them, we had conceived with Clomid, AND I was measuring almost 9 weeks ahead!!!
Maybe you could get the earlier 'gram... Unless you need the four weeks to keep from vomiting, haha! Welcome!

I would also call your doctor and schedule an ultrasound sooner than another 4 weeks. This would also put your mind at ease as well as tell you whether or not your having more than one.
Please keep us updated.

Ok, weird news. Doctor says he believes I am a twin carrier. He looked forever at the "one" baby trying to figure out why I am spotting again, and while he did find a blood clot behind the placenta, he then reported that it looks as if there is a third hand sticking out occasionally and then maybe a foot and "something is back there...". Also, he kept checking the heartbeat and usually it was around 162 or 165, occasionally it was over 200 which he believes is the machine picking up a second heartbeat and it's counting both as one! He said my next u/s I'll be 18 weeks and it's nearly impossible not to see a twin clearly at that point, but I was 13 weeks my last u/s and he said they can hide behind one another....

If your dates are right, which seem a bit suspect to me, then you need a new doctor pronto. Any doctor doing an ultrasound at 9 weeks and talking about feet seems a bit unrealistic to me. If you are concerned, which I would be if seeing such a laid back doctor as you are, then get yourself a specialist now and find out if you are having twins.
This seems a little hokey to me. good luck.
