Unhappy a sore on my nipple that won't go away!

Hey, I hope someone can help me with this. I have had a sore on my nipple for about three weeks and it won't go away. It started out looking like a little blister which I thought was totally possible since my 10 week old boys were just figuring out the nursing at that point. But it just pealed off and under it ramained this very painful spot that resembles a cancor sore. I think it is getting bigger.

I had thrush and was applying nystatin. The shooting pains are gone, but the sore remains. Latch on kills and so does let down....oh, this is also strange...let down on that side feels like there are pop rocks in there. It is really crackley feeling.

My Ob. doesn't really know what it could be- maybe the result of a plugged duct that is manifesting itself on the outside ( I have had mastitis twice on that side). She recommended a special cream that is only made in the hospital's pharmacy. Of course it is $45 for a small tube of cream that MIGHT help.

I was hoping that someone else might have had experience with this and could recommend a cure before I try the cream.

Thanks, Kim

I've had these a few times. I just nursed on and eventually they went away. Try cutting sugar and eating more yogurt.

Default getting better

Hey Jenny,

The no sugar and more yogurt thing seems to be improving my situation. How did you discover this remedy?

Well, Let's just say I tend to overdo on sugar when I'm stressed...like after having babies...especially twins. A wise lactation consultant told me to lay off the sweets and eat more yogurt. Whenever I get one of these sores I do that and it usually dissapears. Glad I could help

Question gushing milk

So, I was taking lecithin and cut down on the sugar and this has helped with the soreness a lot. In fact, I don't even notice anything anymore.

Here's the new big problem...I guess when I had that sore, the other milk ducts in that nipple got clogged and all of my milk was coming out through that sore (called a "bleb," I learned ). Now that the sore is healed, there is quite a large hole in my nipple where it was and all of the milk continues to flow from that hole. That means that when my milk lets down (baby attached or not), the milk gushes from that big hole and I get soaked. I am having to wash all of my bras every day and the thought of going out and risking let down in public is really scary.

The LC suggested putting warm, wet compresses before I nurse to help open the other pores, but it hasn't worked yet.

Anybody have experience with this?

Kim

i had the same problem, and my doctor too didn't know what it was, i finally found out from the 2nd LC I seen. As for the gushing milk, i didn't know what to do, I was constantly soaked but it slowly healed, sorry that I don't have any better advice but Time. Good Luck
