Exclamation South Dakota

Help! I am new on the board. My twin boys are currently in kindergarten together (which I had to beg for last year) and they did wonderful together. The teacher was pleased. They scored above average at school conferences. So what's the problem? A deadset principal that believes they need to be seperated to "branch out into their own identities". What can I do to fight this? I refuse to put my boys through this trauma. I called the Dept of Education and they said it is up to the school to decide. HELP! WHAT CAN I DO?

Hi Dawn!! I think you should call Kelo-land news maybe that would pressure them to explain why it is so vital that they not be together which goes against all the twin experts who say to leave it up to the parents. I am from SD too and my twin boys are now 11 and they have always been in the same class because it is a really small school. I know the school systems here sucks.

ETA I think that makes 3 of us around here from SD

Maybe the current teacher can help convince the principal? I do believe it should be up to the parents to decide if twins should be together or not.

Our school districts policy is to separate, but it is up to the parents to decide. There are 3 sets of twins in Kindergarten this year and mine are the only ones who are in separate classes. But, my girls are the only set of identical twins - one set is b/g the other is frat girls. I'm really happy that the girls are separated, kids in their classes view them as individuals, not as twins. Separation has been really great for them but, I am glad that it was our choice.

Hi,

You could always write a letter to the teacher, principle, and school board. Site the studies that say it is best for parents to decide.

I'm in SD too. Wish I was more help but my twins haven't started school yet.
