Ithought he had a cold that wouldnt go away.., but he never acted sick, no fever, dry cough. But he would cough and cough and cough. But I found out that he has asthma, now we are doing breathing treatments and he is doing much better, I think its from the mold in our house. The lanlord just had new windows put in but they didnt do it correctly and now there is mold in all the window sills...How do you get rid of mold? and does anyone else have a young child with asthma. i have asthma but wasnt diagnosed untill i was in high school. Just wondering if there is others with little ones with asthma. If so what do you do to make it easier for them? Any advice would be helpful...Thanks a bunch

Hi there! Try not to worry too much, asthma can be easily managed if you stick with the treatments the doctor recommends. All 3 of my boys were diagnosed young (6mo. to 1 year old). Mostly we used a nebulizer for treatment, and puffers too. One of the twins needed to be on additional meds for a while too. Winter was always the worst!
They are now 3 1/2 (twins), and 5, and we have just gone the winter with no meds, which is really good. My ped. told us that no one really "out grows" asthma, but it can become kind of dormant. It can flare up again, but right now I'm just happy we've managed no meds for a while!!
Anyway, I've rambled enough! It can be managed, keep to the meds the doctor recommended, even if he seems better.
As for the mold...that's tough. I use Lysol spray and wipes on our windows to keep the mold down, but it will keep coming back. Bleach works too.Good luck!!

My son has yet to be diagnosed with Asthma, but he is allergic to dust and molds which is so hard to deal with. At this point in time, he's on Claritin (OTC) once a day and the Nasonex nose spray (prescrip) once a day. I give him benedryl for any breakouts and the nebulizer treatments for any breathing issues.

Thanks For the advice its so hard to see him struggling and I feel bad that I didnt notice sooner. The weather has been getting better so we have been taking the kids for walks around the feild behind our house and he would get about half way then come back and sit down...I should have know. Right now we are just trying to get it regulated..he is on a steriod treatment so hopefully that will help strengthen his lungs. At least we know now so we can care fore it

Kim - so weird, I remember when my boys were babies and had really bad eczema and you pm'd me telling me about Max and how I should demand getting the boys allergy tested. You were a huge help! Little did I know they'd have pretty much the same issues as Max.
We tried claritin first but then had to go to zyrtec because claritin wasn't doing anything for them. Now that's OTC too.
