Hello all, my name is Natasha. I found out I was expecting twins about a month ago, and since, my mother has been driving me crazy about joining a message board. After reading this board, I now see why. I'm happy to hear we are all going through the same thing. Does anyone have a solution on how to sleep comfortably? I haven't had a good night's sleep in about three weeks. I toss and turn and it's horrible. I am due April 11th, 2008 with fraternal twins. How early will I be able to find out the sex? Everyone says 4 months, which I am currently 11 weeks. I have a doctors appointment this week on the 27th, so I'm hoping they can see more then. Well I look forward to chatting with you all. Have a great day.

WELCOME! Do you get an ultrasound at every prenatal appointment? I wish I did! I see a regular OB for my prenatal appointments and they only use a doppler. But I'll see a maternal-fetal specialist for my ultrasound at 17.5 weeks. I imagine we'll get a chance to learn the genders at that point.

congrats!

I didn't sleep well around 11 weeks as well. Try to drink some warm milk before you go to sleep or when you can fall a sleep after waking up at night.

Usually the sex of the babies can be found out around 18 weeks

ok- how do you konw for sure you are having fraternals without knowing the genders?? Some people seem to know already without knowing genders....

I was told that even with two sacs and placentas there is a 25-30% chance they are identicals.

Congrats and welcome! As to the question regarding "knowing" fraternal or identical -- if your doctor suspects twins they will often order an ultrasound. They can tell by looking at the placentas and sacs. If there are separate placentas and separate sacs then they are most likely fraternal. You can't tell gender until about 18 or 19 weeks, so any earlier ultrasounds will only reveal growth, position, etc.

Having said ALL that...you can STILL have identical twins if you have separate placentas. The chances are much smaller...but it is still possible. It all depends upon how early the egg split.

Hope that all made sense... :)

I had the worst insomnia in the 1st trimester! Nothing worked! I tried everything. I was told to try Unisom (the one containing doxy something not the diphenhydramine one) anyway I took a half a pill to get to sleep9few times weekly)and it worked like a charm. Ask your Dr first though. It seems all the Dr's on here have differing opinions on sleep aids!

I still have a real hard time with insomnia and I'm in my 6th month (I just can't stay asleep because I am so uncomfortable)

I agree with pp, early u/s's aren't gender accurate- It's best to wait until 18 weeks.

Thanks to all for the outstanding feedback. I will definitly talk to my doctor about the proper sleeping pills. When I first found out I was pregnant, I joked with the doctor by saying,"twins run in my family." The doctor did a sonogram and made the statement,"oh my god i'm going to need a drink." I was the third person who had come in that day and had been diagnosed with twins. He couldn't really be sure so he had me come in the next day to see his specialist. When I arrived, she knew all about me and did a vaginal probe. She knew in a matter of seconds that yes I was expecting twins and they where in different sacs. She said this normally means they will be fraternal. Someone on the post stated they still could be identical, and I really hope they are. I'm blessed with either, but I'd really like identical. I watched this great special on the discovery channel about a baby in "The Womb," and it went through all weeks and stages of development. During week 12, the penis and vagina start to form and they can tell by the angle it grows in which sex it will be. I dont want to know though until they are for sure so when I see the doctor this week, I will ask them to hold off. (or will I) lol. I am so curious. I just want them to be sure. Anyway, talk to you soon.

I found out I was having boys at 15 weeks the ultrasound tech told me that she knew they were boys but they would confirm at my 20 week appt. I also had a dream I was having boys before then, so I guess there is something to womans intuition.

As far as sleeping goes....I have really been sleeping well since I bought the maternity boppy pillow, it is so comfortable ( I have the half crescent shaped one ) It was a little pricey at babies r us but well worth it for me. Since about 26 weeks I sleep with this pillow and one under my head, and one under my stomach and the other right by my back. I know thats alot but thats what works for me!!!......lol.
