View Full Version : Temper Tantrums
My 15 month old son Isaac has been having temper tamtrums for the last month or so. If he doesn't get his own way he will throw himself onto the floor, face and all. Sometimes he will even thump his head on the floor. I'm not sure what to do about it, I have been just ignoring him. Most of the time, he will stop after a while, but I have to pick him up once in a while because I don't want him to hurt himself. I don't want to feel like I am giving in though....any advice?

It sounds like you're doing everything right - ignoring him is best if he's not going to hurt himself. He's having an internal conflict and he's the only one who can sort that out. If he's in a position where he can hurt himself you might have to move him to carpet or a bed, but then I would still leave him to sort it out. After he's calmed back down you could softly talk to him trying to help him define why he got so frustrated.
I think it was book by Brazleton - Toddlers & Parents that I read that spoke quite a bit about tantrums. It made me feel better about how to handle them.
Good to see you on the boards again!

Erica started this a few weeks ago... she will throw herself backwards like the Nestea Plunge... very scary We have resorted to picking her up and putting her in her crib for the all out tantrum... we have tile floors so it can be dangerous. When we pick her up we do not speak just matter of factly put her in the crib and leave the room. AFter she is done we go in and get her. Not sure what else to do at almost 15 months I know she's trying to tell me something but neither of them speak yet so.....

Danny's been throwing tantrums for about 2 months. He throws himself down crying, kicking, and hitting anything near him. And sometimes he pounds his head on the floor or wall. We just leave him be and it fizzles out quickly. We move him when we have to. And now it's happening less and less. It's hard for me not to pick him up but the times I've tried it just makes it worse. And he ends up hitting me and pulling my hair. My other two don't throw fits...
