Hi everyone!

New to this site. Just found out last week about the twins and we are so excited. My husband and I have been trying for 17 months. One singleton miscarriage last year. Concerned lately because of two episodes of brown spotting and almost continuous mild cramping. 1st u/s showed heartbeat of one baby but not the other. Doctor's not concerned because I was just barely 6 wks. Anyone else experiencing these symptoms?

I just wanted to pop in and say congrats I was due August 11 2005 and had my twins on July 26 they are just over 5 months now and growing like weeds. My advice to you is take it easy and try not to worry and enjoy it as much as you can...before you know it you will hardly remember being pregnant all. :)
Good Luck!!!!!!

I just found out yesterday our IUI resulted in twins! Holy cow!!! I've got a 25 month old, Ellie, so this will be kiddie 2 and 3. I'm scared and nervous and over-joyed ... both are same size (heart beating at same rate, too) but their sacs are different sizes. I've read that may not be good for the smaller. ... how the heck am I a going to nurse both and feed Ellie? ... I wanted 3 kiddies before I turned 40 -- so I guess my wish has been answered ... I grew up with younger twin brothers; so, I already feel badly for Ellie :p ... I'm reading that I should "take it easy" but I REALLY enjoyed swimming during my first pregnancy ... o, and lastly (for now), I was originallly due Aug 21st but week 37 is July 31st. I checkout out the "due July 06" thread but they all have twin due dates of June 06 ... questions, questions, questions ... would love to discuss!

Hello! I wanted to jump in and introduce myself before heading to bed! LOL
My name is Dawn and I just found this website tonight. We just found out I'm pregnant with twins yesterday. I am 7w2d and both have heartbeats and are measuring right on. They are the same size right now too.
I have two boys already, ages 8 and 4 and this is my first twin pregnancy. I am hoping to have a really good one, and avoid as many complications as possible. I've had 4 miscarriages in the past, so we are very, very careful about things. Anyway- don't mean to bore you all! Have a great night and I look forward to chatting with you!:)

Hi Dawn! I am new here too and due at the end of August with either twins or triplets (there are three sacs, but as of last week could only see two heartbeats). I am exactly 7 weeks today but we've known it was multiple since December 29th. After TTC for over 2 years, we got pregnant on our first IUI cycle. My RE wanted to know as much as we did how many! We go back on Tuesday for another u/s to see what is going on with Baby C and if there is a heartbeat or if there is a problem. Hope to see you and everyone else around!

Miracle - I also had a lot of spotting in my 5th and 6th weeks, but has now stopped completely. We have two heartbeats but three sacs so I also understand that. Week five we could only really see one heartbeat well, week 6+1 we could see two, but my RE is concerned about a growth or blood clot in the third sac and no heartbeat so we'll go back Tuesday.

Ellie+twins - Our IUI has also resulted in a multiple! Of course, with a 95% chance of twins we weren't too surprised!

Good luck to everyone!

Hi everyone,

I wish I was coming back with good news, but our u/s on Thursday showed that we have lost one baby. I haven't miscarried yet and the doctors are hopeful that my body will just reabsorb this little one. Our other baby looks really good, measuring exactly 8wks with a heartbeat of 175 bpm. I'm not sure how to feel about all of this. I struggle with such horrible grief but at the same time incredible joy. We had a miscarriage last year at the exact same time so until now I had never seen a babies heartbeat. It was such an awesome experience. I take great comfort in knowing that our little one has gone home to be with Jesus and someday we will see them both again. Good luck to all of you, I can hardly wait to welcome our little one into this world.

Erin,
Sorry to hear about losing one of your babies it must be so hard for you. You & your other baby will be in my prayers that everything goes well here on out. I haven't had an u/s yet as my dr doesn't do until a little later, but we'll see. I am not worrying about having twins again what are the chances, I don't think they are too high. Just a healthy baby is all I'm praying for, for all of us.

Congratulations Dawn & ChelleBell and welcome. I just wanted to say I also am expecting Aug 31st 2006. I already have 23month old twin boys and this baby on the way will be my last. We are so excited about this pregnancy and hoping for a singleton. Don't know for sure yet if there is more than 1. We have to wait for my u/s. Congrats again and you will find a lot of info on this board. Questions??? Ask away someone will always have advice if needed.

Well this thread is kind of quiet, but I'll post a check-in!

We had our first OB appointment yesterday only to find out that we won't be staying with that practice. We will be transitioned to a high-risk practice after our next appointment. We're fine with it, just disappointed because I love my OB/GYN.

I had to start taking compazine for morning sickness. I had lost almost 10 lbs and my enzymes were all messed up. I was throwing up everything I ate and was putting the babies in jeopardy. It's only my first day but I have managed to keep two meals down and my snacks. I feel so much better. Still a little off, but much much better. Now I am just wicked tired which I don't think there is a pill for :p .

How are the other August mommies doing?

Hello everybody! I am almost 10 wks pregnant and found out at 8 weeks that I will be having identical twins. I was told they are mo/mo twins but we are not 100% sure yet. My due date is Aug. 13, 2006. Look forward to getting to "know" you all!

Hi, this is Julie. I'm expecting twins Aug 21st -- but of course we'll be happy any time in August (!!). I've got a 26 mth old girl and my younger brothers are twins ... this will be interesting (!).

Anyway, looking forward to chatting ... so far, this pregnancy (like my first) has not had much/any morning sickness, only fatigue. I've also returned from a weeks ski vacation at Jackson Hole, WY. My OB was hesitant to let me go ... and I was nervous ... but all is good (knock wood) ... and the skiing was AWESOME!

I would love to talk to someone who already has twins and could give me a little insight..experiencing lots of things I'm not real sure about...I'm new to this sight...I would like to know what it's like to have twins...ex: feeding, sleeping, etc..unsure how to take this "twin" news already have two boys...

OOOH I am so jealous! Skiing in Jackson Hole! I hope you had a wonderful time! Being pregnant with triplets makes me so much more hesitant to do anything. Especially with all the "high risk" talk that goes on around me with the doctors and such.

I wish I wasn't sick. But the fact is I am miserable. Completely utterly miserable and hating every minute of this. Will that ever end????:(

I just keep hoping for the 13th week to be everything all my friends say it is. How am I supposed to eat 4,000 calories a day when I can't keep down oatmeal? Sorry to whine, but this isn't what I bargained on so I am a little overwhelmed.

My husband & I found out two weeks ago that we were having twins (due Aug. 30th). We have one little 3 yr.old, then had 2 miscarriages & have gone through a year of infertility treatments; eventually IVF worked for us. Even though it's a bit overwhelming to find out there are twins, we are truly overjoyed & thankful for our blessings. It's so wonderful to be able to write/talk to others in similiar situations as ours. So far so good, we've had two u/s & the babes look good (thank God!) As a side-note, this is my first time using a message board.

ChelleBell,

You're not alone! My stomach is upset all day long. It is upset when I haven't eaten, when I eat and even while I am eating. I just force myself to eat. Getting water down is particulary difficult, it just tastes yucky. I never had a problem with the before. Hot ginger tea seemed to help a bit with the upset stomach and sugar free chewing gum for after meals and general bad taste in mouth.

And this too shall pass...

Hi all,

I'm Leza (29) and I'm expecting twins August 24th, 2006 after a couple of miscarriages and a fetal demise in my last trimester in March 1997. I concieved through donor insemination after trying off and on for 8 years. This was a new donor and I can't believe I'm pregnant, let alone with TWO. My partner and I have two boys from a previous relationship and they are 9 and 12, so this will be like starting over again for us. We will celebrate our 9 year anniversary around the same time the babies arrive.

Because of my past history of fetal demise, I am over anxious about losing this pregnancy and will probably drive my OB nuts (although she is WONDERFUL) over the next few months. We are also being followed by a perinatologist not just b/c of the multiples, but b/c of type 2 diabetes and a previous history of placental abruption/fetal demise. We'll see the peri on the 17th and our next OB visit is the 3rd. I also have hyperemesis gravidarum (which I had with my previous pregnancy and my mother had with me) and am on Phenergan and Zofran but STILL have vomiting from time to time. I had lost 4 pounds at the very beginning of the pregnancy, but after being put on the anti-emetics, I have managed to stay steady at my current weight.

I've been experienced constipation, (early on) urine retention, early fetal movement, extreme fatigue, and a host of other exaggerated pregnancy symptoms. I recently lost my job as a Medical Assistant (after my employer found out I was expecting twins, I was convienently "no longer needed"), so I've been working out of my home setting up an e-bay store and doing some secret shopping to save money for my maternity leave.

We think there may be a third fetus or sac, just based on my last u/s. There is something that looks like a third sac just below the embryo on the left, you can even see the split membranes AND what appears to be a third embryo sitting on the bottom of the sac, just to the left of the very bottom. Please do look at my u/s pic and tell me if you see it or if I'm losing my mind.

On the 6th, the babies measured at 7w1d and 6w6d and heartrates were 141 and 135 so we know they're healthy. I know this as well b/c my regular clothing does NOT fit any longer and I've started feeling movement as of 7.5 weeks. Wow.

I look forward to "meeting" some of you....BTW, we live in Austin, TX.

bateacher thanks! I am so miserable some days I think I won't make it through. :( Then I hear about women who don't get better when they hit 13 weeks and I really want to just give up. My job is being great letting me leave early when I just can't take it anymore which helps and DH is being wonderful. It helps to know I am not alone! I am on medication which is helping a little!

ChelleBell128,
I was REALLY scared about going to Jackson Hole after I found out I had twins and reading all the high risk stuff as well as my OB being VERY hesitant about my skiing. I took it VERY easy -- lots of breaks, no double diamonds :D -- and it worked out fine. As a matter of fact, I'm feeling much more confident now. All that high risk news really upset me. But having gone skiing, I'm no longer paranoid. So, to get to my point -- be your usual stong self!

Sorry, about sickness ... I thought it was 300 extra calories for each embryo ... as long as you can keep your vitamins and water down, the weight will come. O believe me, the weight will come!:( Also, I had a friend that lost 20 lbs her first trimester due to morning sickness (yes, she was overweight) but had a chubby, healthy girl!

Hello everyone! I am new to the site and have been very impressed with the kindness here. I look forward to sharing my experiences and asking the many questions I am sure I will have.

I am due on August 5th with twins. This is my first pregnancy and I have been overwhelmed with the emotions associated with having twins. I have also been suffering from some serious morning sickness and have been quite miserable, to be honest. I am in my 12th week currently and dare to say that I am feeling a bit better with each week. How about the other August mommies? Morning sickness subsiding at all?

Hi ladies I'm leaving this thread as I just found out tonight that I'm in the process of a miscarriage. I went to the dr yesterday for my 1st pre-natal and they did an ultrasound to rule out multiples only to find out my suppose to be 9wk baby was only measuring 6wks. Tested levels yesterday & today and they are going down. Im really upset and don't know if I will try again after this one. Too emotional draining. I'm having a dnc done tues morning. Good luck with all your pregnancys and I'm praying for healthy babies for all.

Hello all-
I just found this message board tonight. After 6 years of not conceiving, we did in vitro and it worked! Now I am pregnant with twins and due August 25th. Lots of nausea and exhaustion as many seem to have. I am glad this board exists for future issues and questions!
Happy to have found you all,

I just found out last week that we are expecting twins. I am so glad that I found this forum. I have been so worried since I found out. I am now 10 weeks and from what the doctor said I should be due around the 10th of August. For those of you that have done this before I have an eight year old and four year old, but was never this sick with either of them. Is this normal. I am not gaining weight yet which I read was bad, but I can't help it. Any tips for twins and pregnancy would be helpful, my husband is still hyperventilating and will be gone quite abit through the pregnancy.
(He is active duty in the army.)
Anyone else in the same boat?

Hi, I'm a newbie to this, too. I am 9 weeks pregnant w/twins. We found out early because of some spotting. From what I have been told spotting is very common with twins, but it sure doesn't ease your mind any. I'm scared, nervous and excited all at once. I have been fortunate...no morning sickness, no weight gain, no breast tenderness, but sometimes I wonder if that is a bad sign? I haven't been back to the doctor's since my 6 week and 3 day u/s. My next appt. is not until Valentine's Day. I'm dying to go to make sure that everything is okay with both of them. Has anybody else had the the spotting and if, so how long did you have it for and are you feeling any of the same worries/concerns that I am?

I am also feeling daily nausea, pretty much all day. Wondering about due dates charcoal. I am 10 weeks and due aug 25, but you are 10 weeks and due aug 10th. Oh, well, it doesn't matter. I haven't had spotting, but next appt is the 9th. I am nervous daily that something will go wrong. Anyone know much about vanishing twin syndrome? I don't but hear the term thrown around.

I am seeing my ob every two weeks per her requirement, so I've been in at 7 weeks, 91/2 weeks, and next will be almost twelve weeks.

I look forward to sharing info and comparisons with you guys.

Thistle - My next appointment is February 9th also!

Thanks for all the support ladies. The morning sickness seems to have gone away... <Knocking on wood> My mom came down to visit me last Thursday. I was wicked sick all night and then Friday am, but every since have only thrown up once! YIPEEEEEEEEE! I don't mind the throwing up so much it is the nausea (SP?) that was killing me. I am also forcing myself to stay awake until 8:30 at night so I can sleep through the night and get a good nights rest.

I am finally in maternity clothes only which I think helps a bit with the sickness also. Having underwear that fits makes such a difference :p

The babies double in size this week according to the book so no wonder I look so big!

Ellie+twins - I have a wonderful book that explains all that you need to know about having a healthy multiple pregnancy through proper nutrition. It explains that the "300" calories more per baby is way off and that multiples have their own special "rules." It is called What to Expect with Twins, Triplets and Quadruplets written by Dr. Barbara Luke. It is the book recommended to me by every multiple mom I know - and they all went over 33 weeks and their babies were over 6 lbs each! Good luck!

"every mother of multiples you know"? I don't know any....

Wierd symptom to mention- My legs itch like crazy!!! It is winter and the heat is on, but I don't usually have this problem. I know itching all over can be a problem in late pregnancy, but this?

otherwise- at how many weeks are you guys starting to show?

How far along will you be on Feb 9th?

I want to say congratulations to all you ladies!!!

I am a May mommy to be expecting identical girls. I love reading all over the message board. I have learned soooo much from the experiences of the other ladies on here. I go ahead a month or more to "see what I can expect in the way I will be feeling in a month". One thing I've learned is you need to take it easy and not over do anything. We already had one Mom from the due in May have her babies. They are a little over 1 pound each and doing well. 3 other mothers on the due in April board have had their babies already too. So you ladies take care of yourself and take it easy.

Chellebell......I wanted to ask you about eating 4000 calories a day. Is that what the dr told you to do?

Hi!

I am so happy for you! We found out about 5 weeks ago that we were carrying twins. I am only at 10 weeks now and the reason that we found out so early is because I was having the brown spotting, too. It has ceased, but I get some discharge w/a very vague tint of brown. I've been told it's nothing to be concerend about and that spotting with twins is very common. We are due technically Sept. 5th, but with twins early delivery is to be expected. KIT...stephydanko

Hi, I am only 9 weeks at this point. I am due mid september, but my 37 weeks are in August so will post here as well.

I am expecting fraternal twins. Found out at 6 weeks. We have a 5 y/o son, 3 y/o daughter, and 21 month old daughter. By the time the twins are born they will be 6, 4, & 2.

My last ultrasound was at 7 wks 3 days. Baby A measured 7 wks 3 days and had heartbeat in the 150s. Baby B measured 6 wks 5 days and heartbeat was barely picked up at 118. The sacks on ultrasound look very different. Baby A very large and oval looking. Baby B very small and round. and about 1/4 the size as that of baby A but I think this is because of the way baby B might be "behind" baby A and the ultrasound can not get to it properly... When they move the probe around we are sometimes better able to get a better look at the baby as well as the sack. I am nervous and have been nervous for the past two weeks, but thankfully tomorrow is my next ultrasound. I will be able to see them again tomorrow afternoon- 9 weeks.

No M/S have gained 7 pounds so far. (about 15 over my norm - I had a miscarriage in Oct 05 from which I had gained 8 pounds and had not lost prior to this pregnancy. From this preg on 7 pounds- all together = 15 above my normal weight).

I got Dr. Luke's book and started reading it. I too, hope to be able to deliver good size babies and hopefully not have complications if I can help it.

I will post again tomorrow's findings. Thank you for all of you who take time posting. I hope all have great outcomes.

DITTO

Baby A looks really good with heartbeat in the 170s measuring up to 9 weeks right on target with my dates. Baby B measured 7 weeks no heart beat. Two weeks ago baby A was 7 weeks good heart rate, baby b was 6 weeks with hr of 118 sack looked a lot smaller than that of baby A's from the beggining. Doctor is telling me it might get absorbed. I have had no spotting, no cramping, and no bleeding. I am not sure what will happen. I am happy baby A is strong and looks healthy. I have grieved for 2 prior miscarriages. This one is somewhat different. I guess probably because I am left with one to look forward to.

Hey there! I have been MIA for weeks around here. One post and I split! Sorry for that! I have been so tired and wiped out that its all I can do to get my kids in bed and make it to the couch before crashing at night! I am 12w1d today and feeling pretty good so far. No real morning sickness, just severe nausea if I don't eat all I should! I am getting really big, but grateful that I look pregnant and not fat ykwim?
I see my dr on the 20th and then make an appointment for the perinatologist after that. I am anxious to find out what these little beans are so I can start shopping! LOL My boys are so excited about the babies too, they both want sisters they say...boy they have no IDEA what they are in for with twin sisters do they!?
I wanted to stop in an say hello, but now have to get my oldest to get his homework done before tae kwon do class and get the little guy up before leaving. I am so sorry to those who have had troubles and pray that things work out somehow for you. Congrats to all the new ones here...I hope we all have happy and healthy pregnancies! Anywya- gotta run- take it easy everyone and I PROMISE to come back regularly now that I'm feeling abit better! TTYS!

Hello August Mommies!
I am currently 12 weeks, 1 day. My current due date is 8/24/06. So far, babies are doing great. At 10 week appointment, both measured right on target and had good strong heartbeats. I am pretty nervous, and probably won't relax until I'm holding them both in my arms. This is my first pregnancy.

Hello girls,

My name is Lisa, and I am currently 14w3d pg with fraternal twins as a reult of our first IVF:clap: I came across this site and thought it would be wonderful to share this journey with other moms expecting twins. Everything has been going really well, and I definitely am showing. I've been wearing maternity clothes since the IVF due to moderate OHSS and abdominal fluid retention. It's very obvious that I'm pg. We're ecstatic about the babies, and both US with our peri have been perfect thus far. Can't wait to get to know all of you and share experiences and suggestions.

Yes, for those that are curious, my doctor who specializes in multiple births told me to eat as much as I can to ensure that my triplets are as big as possible. I am not physically able to eat that much on most days either because of my morning sickness or because there just isn't enough room. However the 300 calories more is not nearly enough for three babies. I want my babies to come out as big and strong as possible. I am 12w6d and eating over 3,000 calories a day have not gained a pound in a month but my babies are perfect size and healthy and moving around on the u/s just like they should be.

Hi Ladies! I just found this board and am excited to "meet" everyone.

I am 15w6d pregnant with twins. My husband and I tried for 18 months, had one miscarriage, and resorted to IUI. It worked the first time. We actually had a vanishing triplet

We are absolutely thrilled about the twins! I have a blood clotting disorder (FVL) so see a perinatologist on a regular basis-I am on daily injections of Lovenox too. I've made it this far, so I am very optomistic!

My singleton due date is 8.06.06, but am sure these little guys will come in July. We find out the sexes on 2.27!!! - Katy

Started reading this book (title line above). Sort of a "Girlfriend's Guide" for twins. I'm enjoying it (mostly). I like the antidotes and advice. Could do without all the God-stuff, personally. It's very direct, which I like but may turn others off. Anyone else picked it up?

Hello everybody! I am almost 10 wks pregnant and found out at 8 weeks that I will be having identical twins. I was told they are mo/mo twins but we are not 100% sure yet. My due date is Aug. 13, 2006. Look forward to getting to "know" you all!

Melissa, did you have another u/s yet? We were told we were having mo/mo twins this time at 7 weeks and 3 or 4 days. We had another u/s at 10 weeks at the hospital with a much better machine and they easily found a membrane separating the babies. Everything that I read said it was too early to confirm mom/mo twins at 7 or 8 weeks. So hopefully you will see a membrane at your next appt. We lost twins in June 2000 who were mo/mo and had a cord accident. So for me to have a second set of mo/mo twins would have been very rare.

I read your post to Dr Rachel and I agree with you about the more aggresive treatment to protect your babies. Have you been to http://www.monoamniotic.org/public/intro.shtml
This is a great website for info on mo/mo twins.

So we have identical twin boys who were born 8/15/05.
Please let us know how you are doing and what you find out.

Hi ladies,

Is anyone feeling any movement yet? I thought that I felt flutters throughout my 12th week, then nothing since. I am currently 15w2d. I know that it's very individual, but was wandering how everyone else is doing?

Hi and welcome Christine. I was reading your surrogacy link, and it's so amazing what you're doing. The board is somewhat quiet right now, but hopefully we'll all start posting more often soon. I can't wait to get to know everyone and to share our adventures.

Thank you Lisa for the welcome. I have been feeling the "butterflys" since 12 weeks as well. Mostly at night when I am laying down. But starting to feel it more sporadically throughout the day. I have heard rumors that twins kick each other more then they kick you so I am hoping this is true. My first two were gymnasts!

Hi!
This is the first time I've ever participated in a message board, but this is also my first pregnancy, and it's twins at that, so go figure! :)
Official singleton due date is Aug 28, but I'll be happy with any time actually in August.

Just wanted to know--has anyone else had spotting/bleeding past the 12th week? My OB (who specializes in multiples) says it's nothing to worry about, but of course I do worry. Anybody out there have thoughts on this?

Thanks

Thanks for the recommendation on the Barbara Luke book. Many have recommended it ... which makes me nervous. I just can't eat that much! And I don't even have morning sickness (knock wood!).

HELP! Because so many have recommended this book, I'm feeling really bad and guilty for not being able to force more calories into my body. (Unfortunately, I loss a normally VERY healthy appetite when I'm preggers.)

How are others doing with the weight gain? I'm hoping I can bulk up better in my 2nd trimester, like I did with my singleton.

YES, my back and arms are SOOOO itchy!

CVS confirmed ... we are having a Margaret and a Thomas.:yippee: :yippee: Hope they arrive in August fat, healthy and happy!

Ellie - Don't worry about it - I read the same book and went sobbing to my doctor who comforted me. I was warned that the book would be "alarming" and scary which it was in addition to being incredibly informative.

My doctor told me to eat as much as I can and as healthy as I can which will help my babies grow! My girlfriend had twins 18 months ago and just ate as much as she could without worrying about calorie intake - she used the book as a guideline and worked with her doctor as I am. Basically she ate whatever she wanted whenever she wanted and now has two beautiful twin girls who are very healthy!

I was so sick for 8 weeks that I went without gaining one pound between doctors appointments and freaked out. But now I am eating a lot more and keeping it all down so I feel better and only worry part of the day instead of all day! I hope to see a weight gain at our next appointment on March 13.

Now I can only eat until about 5 pm then at dinner time I feel sick - not morning sickness sick, but the thought/smell of food makes me want to throw up but I don't. Nothing seems appetizing to me and I can't handle a full meal. This is a strange development that is very confusing. It could be that I am eating so much during the day that maybe by evening I am full. The three little ones may be taking up too much room!

Good luck Ellie and remember that book is going to be scary but it is a good guideline! All the moms in my Parents of Multiples group recommended it and so did my girlfriend who had those beautiful, healthy, full term twin girls! And congrats on Margaret and Thomas. I can't wait to get my tests to find out the sexes!

Please don't feel guilty!! I'm sure you're doing the best you can!!

I walked into my first OB appt (he specializes in multiples) waving around a copy of that chart from the book, and my OB took one look at me and bluntly said, "You're not going to make those numbers, but the twins will end up healthy and fine". He then proceeded to "prescribe" Ben&Jerry's every night before bed. He was right...I'm about 4 lbs under where I should be, but I'm feeling proud 'cause I've never gained this much weight this fast in my life.

If it helps, I have a couple of suggestions that seem to be working for me:
(1) Quit buying low-fat anything. Whole milk, whole-fat sour cream, etc.
(2) First eat healthy, then eat "junk". I have my oatmeal with bananas, glass of milk and scrambled egg for breakfast, and then an hour-and-a-half later I stop at McDonald's for a sausage egg mcmuffin. 600+ calories a pop. I still have my hummus-avacado on whole wheat bread sandwich for lunch, but some of those "organic" TV dinners can give a 500 cal boost for a 3 pm snack without much volumn to get down.
(3) "Fatten up" the healthy foods. I still have broccoli on baked potato for dinner, but now I smother it in a cheese sauce. Spinach sauteed in soy sauce? Now it's creamed spinach. I feel as long as you use healthy basic ingredients (real, not processed cheese, or homemade cream sauce not stuff out of a jar with a lot of preservatives and fillers), then you can't do too much harm.
(4) (my best suggestion) Ensure Plus meal supplement is 350 cal for only about 4 good gulps. It's nutrient-balanced, and supplemented with vitamins, and you can it a good deal on a case of it at Costco.

Hope this helps! Congratulations on Margaret and Thomas!

Hello Ladies! I have only made one post here and it was a few weeks ago. I do enjoy reading all of your posts and they seem to answer a lot of questions that I have had. I do however have a few unanswered questions that maybe some of you could help with.

I am 16w3d pregnant with twins - this is my first pregnancy and have a due date of 8/5.

1). I have read in this post that many of you already know if you are having identical or fraternal twins. How is that? I have had several ultrasounds so far and have no clue what I am having. I have my ultrasound to determine the sex on March 5th :yippee: and wonder if I will be told at that time weather they are identical or fraternal. Anyone have some insight to this?

2). I am in my 16th week and have felt no movement yet. Should I be concerned? This is my first pregnancy so I am not sure what to expect but have gathered that it is similar to butterflies in the tummy. I have read that sometime between weeks 16-20 you will feel movement.

3). At my last visit the heartbeats were 159bpm and 160bpm. What is normal? I have heard the old wives tale that the female heartbeat is faster than the male - any truth to that or is that just simply a wives tale?

Good luck to all of my fellow August mommies! I hope to be more active in the messageboard as time progresses!

I just found this board today and am excited to be here. I am due Aug.22 with twins from our 3 try with an IUI this round. We have a 3 year old girl from a previous IUI who has been begging for a sister...so we will see. I was sick until about 10 weeks and then it got better, every now and then I have that terrible feeling of throwing-up, thank goodness it is not that often. I wasn't sick at all with my first so that was a new experience.
Now I am just tired and have zero energy and of course am already getting up about 7 times a night to go to the restroom, I am sure that will just get worse.

Like I said I am looking forward to sharing this experience with you ladies!

Hi Cameron,

I hope I can answer at least Q#2 and Q#3 for you. First timers do tend to feel the butterfly flutters a little later because the sensation is definately a different one. I would say 16-18 weeks is a more "normal" time span. When you lay down at night and all is quite focus on your belly for while, you just might feel something.

Our heartbeats at our last appt was 156 and 160. I can't remember if boys or girls are supposedly faster, but the ones I am carrying are both girls. Enjoy the guessing, you are going to know very soon what you have baking in there.

Congrats!

It has to do with the sacs that surround them. If they share a chorionic sac--you can see this on the ultrasound--then they are definitely identical. If they have separate sacs, then they are usually fraternal. However, if identical twins separate really early, then they, too, can have separate sacs. This means you can definitely say that they are identical, but you can never definitely say that they are fraternal unless it's a boy/girl pair. For b/b or g/g pairs, the only way to definitely say they are fraternal is through a DNA test.

Good luck!

Thank you ladies for your reassurance and calorie suggestion. I hate the taste of whole milk ... so I'll try to work my way up to it gradually.

Dinner! Yes, I've been taking in lots of calories all day (and will have more since I'll be going full fat ;) ) and by the time dinner rolls around, I can't stomach anything more than a small bowl of food. But I've found myself waking up in the middle of the night not being able to get back to sleep. One night, I got up, had a muffin & milk and read Luke. The next night, I drank a large glass of milk at 4am but tried to go back to sleep immediately. I slept really soundly! So now, I try to drink a glass of milk (soon to be whole, or at least 2%) before going to bed and I've been sleeping much better! Guess you body just puts on the brakes when it needs to ... but you don't have to pay for it in the middle of the night!

O, BTW my name is Julie. My 2 year old is Ellie (Eleanor).

Hi ladies,

I'm glad to hear that I'm not the only one trying to figure out the eating thing according to Dr. Luke. She even recommends fast food such as burger, chicken, and shakes. It's hard to imagine that's a good thing, but I guess we have to do whatever it takes to get 3500+ calories per day. I haven't been eating that much, but have gained 11 lbs at 16weeks.

Carmen- I too have not really felt any movement to speak of yet. This is my third pregnancy, but my daughters are 18 & 13, so I'm trying to remember what to expect. I thought that I had flutters a couple of weeks ago, but nothing since. Darn. I am renting the BabyBeat doppler, so I do listen to the heart beats every day, and it reassures me that they're still ok. The heart rate will fluctuate, especially later in pregnancy. With activity, it increases.

I hope that everyone is doing well.

Lisa--
Can you say a little bit more about your experience with the BabyBeat doppler? I attend a pregnancy-after-loss support group, and we have had a lot of discussion about this. There is a worry that it can be difficult to use (especially with twins!), and that an inability to "find" the heartbeat can cause more stress than reassurance.

How long did it take you to become proficient using it? Can you always clearly identify two separate heartbeats? Is it ever difficult to know that you are hearing each baby, as opposed to the same one twice?

If anybody else out there has experience with this, I'd love to hear about it.

Thanks,

Hi DM,

The BabyBeat has been great for me personally. I was an OB nurse for eight years, and I guess just knowing too much has made me a little neurotic. When I first began renting it, I was 12 weeks and yes, it was difficult at times to discern between the two babies. Now it's much easier, because the babies are getting larger. It's really for just a peace of mind for me. Sometimes, my dh threatens to remove the batteries if I get a little concerned about something that I'm hearing. So, I guess that it's use can definitely bring a little anxiety, especially to those who lack any experience at first. But, that being said, it's inexpensive to rent. It also has a great sound quality. For me, it's comforting to know that both babies are still with me, especially until I begin feeling substantial movement. I did read on one forum that someone heard that dopplers shouldn't be used more that three times per week, but I could never find any info to verify that theory. Maybe someone else has input regarding that. I hope that helps a little.

Thanks for the suggestions Daffodils!

My doctor told me that she doesn't even expect me to gain weight this early in my pregnancy especially since I had such wicked bad morning sickness. Ellie I know you don't have any, and I envy you!

The suggestions to increase those calories are really helpful and seem pretty manageable so I am off to the grocery store to stock up! Melted cheese for baked potatoes, creamed spinach, oatmeal etc. And there is a McDonalds I stop at sometimes for sausage cheese biscuits on my way to work YUM!

I have been craving steak and mashed potatoes for dinner every night too which is good - I guess I am getting my appetite back. I did try the ensures but they smelled so bad I couldn't even sip it! So now they sit in my fridge and I have to toss them soon! I eat the Healthy Mom snack bars which are chocolate chip and YUMMY.

Hello all!
Its great to read all your posts.
So I have two new issues and am now at 14weeks. I have been told I have cholestasis of pregancy and hyperthyroid. I have not had any problems pre pregnancy, but did take fertility drugs and do in vitro.
Cholestasis creates horrendous itching due to bile salts collecting under your skin. usually people get in 3rd trimester - groan! I will likely go on thyroid meds this week too.
Anybody have any experience or info?
Also, do you guys have suggestions about strollers and other equipment?
Anyway, sonograms all look good and I agree, it is reassuring to hear those heartbeats...
Thanks.

:yippee:

I just discovered this site while trying to get some info about twins and twin pregnancy. Me and DH went for routine echo last Thursday scheduled before my amnio appointment (I will be 35 in a month). The technician was quite surprised we didn't know and that our ObGyn did not get a clue. No history really in both families (besides 3 generations cousins of my mother...), and no fertility treatments so it came as quite a surprise. We are sooooo happy but I am much less relaxed now that risks are higher and stakes too !!! This is our first and I guess we started off things in a roar.

They think they are fraternal twins (but couldn't be sure because it was a bit late in pg and it was hard to see if it was one sack or two side-by-side). At first sight, it seemed like a boy and a girl but the girl was really hard to see ... we will knwo for sure with the amnio results within the next 3 weeks. Ouf, hope they are both ok !!

I was originally due Aug 12 but I guess it looks more like July now !! I became pregnant at 5.4 feet, 105 pounds so I am a really small boned lady (was not underweight however, just right) but was already questionning with one, how it would fit inside  Eveybody says nature has its ways.

I now eat as much as I can but it's hard and I get heatburn a lot. Gained only 6 pounds so far at 16 weeks 1d... looking fw to see the Dr this Thursday to see what she recommends. I am eating as well as I can in all food groups and as much as my stomach will take.

Happy to have found you all !!! will definitly need the sharing and support !!!!

Manon,

Congratulations!!!! That's such wonderful news, and I can only imagine how surprised you were to find out so late. I too am 5'3 and weighed 105 at the beginning of my IVF cycle in October, but now weigh 122lbs. It's been really difficult to change my eating habits so drastically, but you can do it. You've probably read about this in other posts, but Dr. Luke's "When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, Quads.." is an excellent source of information on diet in multiple pregnancies. Goodluck on your amnio results, and don't worry, your body will adapt to accomodate two little one's.

My husband and I are trying to decide whether or not to do the amnio. I'm 36, but we got our Nuchal Translucency Screening results back, and our risk of Down's Syndrome fell from 1/302 (age-related) to 1/4261 (same for both, they measured the same).

I realize that it's only an adjusted risk estimate, not a "clean" diagnostic result of "no problems", but I'm worried about the slightly higher risk of miscarriage from amnio with twins.

Can anyone out there who has done amnio share their thoughts? This is a REALLY tough decision for us, and I'd like to hear some more thoughts both for and against it.

Thanks

Hello DF and Lisa,

Lisa; thank you for your kind words, it really helps sharing it all ;) I am now eating a lot more and just staying positive. I am still analysing if I should read that book as sometimes I believe too much information is worse than less on the spirit... if you know what I mean !!

DM: I did the amnio last Thrusday. To be honest, it had been booked when we still thought we had one baby. My DH sister is a genetic counselor and she explained that our chances of miscarriage (due to the amnio) at 35 were the same as getting Down syndrome (1 in 200). So, not being much a believer in statistics (for the screening test), we went along with it and I stayed positive it would all go well. Then, we learned 10 minutes before the amnio was to be performed that they were twins... The Dr said it was an even better idea now since we basically have double the chances but I was a little bit (!!!) more scared. The amnio for the first baby went like a breeze, the one for the second was more complicated as it was slightly hidden behind the other one and the Dr had to make sure he was in a different fluid pocket. I just closed my eyes, did yoga breathing and never looked at the screen. DH says the funny thing is both babies just stayed completely still through the process even thought there was much movement 10 minutes ago (so cute!!!). I am now mostly over the miscarriage period and all went A-1. I did nothing for two days like they said and no spotting, no cramping, nothing. Of course, I have been floating since the same moment because of the amazing news.

With the very low chances you have, I am not sure I would go through it again. I was in my second quarter already and just wanted to make sure. In 2 1/2 weeks, we will know for sure and I am happy about that but it is really a personal decision. The risks are very low but now that I know I have twins without any family history, I am thinking ... well I was the 1-2% in this case even though I thought it seemed such a low chance when deciding on the amio.

Let me know if you need more details ; )

Manon :)

Well- actually I am 36 and my OB sees no reason to do an amnio. She may chnage her mind because as I posted, I have a couple of conditions going on. But frankly I was relieved she saw no reason to do it. I f I have to I will, and I know many people do without a problem. But so far, why?
Also, are you having ultrasounds every appt? I am and so I get them at least every other week.
Hang in there and follow your own gut on this one!

As for the amnio question, it's such a personal decision. I just turned 38 years old, and until I actually found out I was pg with twins via IVF, I always believed that I would definitely have amnio performed. But then when I met with my peri earlier in the pg, I discussed my fear of miscarriage. I know that it's such a slight risk, but this may be our only chance at pregnancy, and I couldn't risk it. After the Nuchal Scan revealed minimal risk for Down's, we decided with our peri to forego the test. We have our level II US in two weeks, and if that shows that our babies look healthy, there will definitely be no amnio. Goodluck to you. You really have to make the decision that eases your mind the most along with taking into consideration your history and OB's recommendation. Take care.

Jen-Welcome to the board.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I haven't posted in a while, but I have been reading in this thread and others so I can read about what they are experiencing. I go to the Doc Tuesday March 7, it is so hard waiting that long because my last u/s was so long ago at my 8 week appt. I hope that is ok that I haven't had one in so long. The morning sickness, well all day sickness has much improved, I am having trouble eating 600 more calories a day and going to work! My back already hurts, but I am glad my morning sickness is subsided. This indigestion is so awful! I can't eat anything except oatmeal breakfast without burping for an hour after. Is anyone else on Iron pills? I am having trouble taking them because of all the restrictions, not within 1 hr. before or two hours after whole grain, milk, milk products, eggs etc. and not laying down 30 minutes after. With as often as I am eating its not really working out. I'm not sure if my doc just prescribes iron automatically with multiples because I don't think I have even been tested for anemia. Well, I hope everyone is doing well and is getting over the morning sickness, yea!

Amnio -- the decision can be made on what you'll do with the information. If you'll act on the info (ie, abort) then do the test because the break even between miscarriage and DNA issues is the same after 35 (ie, 0.5%). However, if you're not going to act on the info -- don't do the test. Why put yourself even at the slightest risk.

Iron/vitamins -- it's easier for me to drink several glasses of milk (calcium and protein, to boot) then it is for me to eat hunks of red meat (iron). So, I make sure the iron in my multi get's the attention it needs by having it with an orange/vitamin C (it helps iron absorbtion). Iron and Calium don't play nicely together -- so if you want iron, don't take your vitamin with a glass of milk. Take it with orange juice. I found it helps with the yucky feeling you get after taking a vitamin, too.

Luke book -- ugh. So, I read that multiples might go on bed rest at 32 weeks. That's May! And highly probable we'll need bedrest at 36 weeks -- that's June! I asked my OB about this. Thank goodness I did! He told me that given my history, I should be OK till end of July. Although I may want to stop working mid-July -- just because I'll stop wanting to carry all that weight around! (First child was 8lbs, 6oz, born full term.) I can't imagine being stuck in bed for 2 months!

I will try taking my iron with oatmeal. My multi has iron in it so I'm still not sure why I got a seperate one. Maybe because of my low weight or dislike for red meat, which has actually changed since I got pregnant. I'll have to ask my OB when I go in next week. I stopped taking it in the meantime because of what it did to my stools. ick. It said they might darken and to call your doc if they were black, well, they looked black to me. Sorry for being so graphic, but I guess were all going through "icky" stuff right now anyways. I am taking off work for two days with no pay, but I need to get well so hopefully it will be worth it.

Hi, this is my first time posting although I have been reading for about 3 weeks. I am 14 weeks (due Aug 29th) I have two girls Kira just turned 5 and Kiana just turned 3. I went for a routine check up @11 weeks and the Dr. asked how it was going, I told him that I had never been so sick in my life and even Zofan wasn't working. I also told him I went to work because we have an Ultrasound to see if there were twins(It was hard enough for me to see 1) he asked if i wanted him to take a look and I actually told him no, he got the machine anyway. There they were!! I was a little worried what my husband would think since it took us forever to deside to go from 2 to 3. He was elated. Now we are looking for the mini van wee hoo!!

Welcome Diane and congratulations!!! That's so exciting. Even as the weeks creep by, it's so difficult to imagine actually having two little one's at once. It's such a blessing though. Is anyone else feeling movement? I'm 17 weeks and can't tell yet if I'm feeling tiny, occassional flutters, or if it's gas. Hope that everyone is feeling well.

:yippee: Congratulations and welcome Diane !!

What a surprise isn't it ? Well, you'll have a full family now ;) The minivan seems like a must in your case ! I have one (Ford Freestar) that is also my company vehicule, that will help with the finances (at least one thing we already have !).

I have felt no movement yet, unless all that gaz and air movement is them... but my stomach is usually growling at the same time and I REALLY doubt the babies would be that loud !! Am now at 17weeks and am concentrating as hard as I can to feel them but nothing. We had a routine appointment last Thursday and we heard their heartbeats (147 bpm and 153), just that helps reassure me. I can understand why some of you would have a doppler at home !!

Next ultrasound is in two weeks 1/2, we both cannot wait to see them again. In the mean time, we are really curious and a bit nervous to get the amnio results along with the confirmation of the sexes.

My belly is coming out a little more each and every day. I finally am beginning to look pregnant, as I looked more like I was gaining extra weight since the beginning. Took 8 pounds so far, almost all in the belly area, and did the wardrobe check yesterday and it is time to go shopping for maternity stuff... my doctor says it's all good as the babies are at their proper sizes, but that I should expect to become really round by this summer.

We will all be really HOT this summer

Bye bye

Hi there,
I've been reading for a little while now so I thought I'd join in. I'm in my 15th week (due 8-24) and I already have two girls (4 1/2 yrs and 23 mos old). We were shocked a few weeks ago to find out we were expecting identical twins but we have grown more excited each day.

I've already gained about 15 pounds and I am just so uncomfortable. I'm 5'2 (110 pre-preg) and I just can't imagine how I'll be able to carry two growing babies all nine months. I probably sound crazy, especially those of you with triplets and more but I guess I'm still in shock. My lower back and legs are aching, I feel like crying constantly and by the end of the day my fingers and feet feel so swollen and tight. Could I possible complain any more? Is this all normal? I felt like this at the very end of my last pregnancy but I'm just now into my second trimester. Has anyone felt like this?
Thanks,
Isabel

Welcome Isabel and congratulations!!!

I also have gained about 15lbs, am 5'3" and I weighed 110lbs when I finished IVF. I'm currently 17w2d gestation. It is pretty incredible, but our bodies will accomodate these little ones. I take comfort in reading the posts from other ladies who are further along. I guess it's best to look at it one day at a time and to try and not worry about what ifs? It's hard though. It will be great to have all of the girls on this site to vent to and get advice from. Take care.

Went to the doc Monday. She said I'm growing well and heartbeats were at 160 and 155. I stil have a clogged ear thing and it hurts if I don't take Tylenol. So I have been taking it nonstop, which I really don't like. She says it is going around and that's all I can do. Sudafed in the morning, trying to do only half a dose and Benadryl at night! They did the quad screening and I go for my Level II ultrasound in 2 weeks. She said if there are no discrepancies whatsoever then not another u/s until 7 months! Does that seems right to everyone? Well, my energy levels are up, gotta say something positive!

Bateacher - that seems like a long time to me to wait for another u/s. I am freaking out b/c I go next Thursday and that will have been 4 weeks. I am used to having one every 2 weeks with my fertility dr. I hate this time b/c it is too early to feel any movement (16 wks) so I am just praying that there are two heartbeats next week.

I am not taking iron but am on extra folic acid and calcium. Can you take the iron at night before you go to bed? I started taking my prenatal then b/c I was throwing up all day in the beginning and have just continued to take them at night.

HiI everyone !!!

bateacher, 7 month until your next U/S does not seem right to me. It is the normal delay for a singleton pg but by now we all know we are special ;) This puts you at about 32 weeks... I would definitly request at least one in between, or around the end of your 2nd trimester (27-28 weeks), if only for reassurance.

I have never worried so much in my life and it's just the beginning. I am 17w 1/2 and from reading other posts, I am very lucky. No major aches, no nausea. Sleep is still good besides the fact that I wake up every hr to drink water/ go the bathroom (It's been like that since the beginning). I drink 2-3 glasses of water every night, anyone else wakes up with dry mouth during the night ? I have some little nerves squeezing here and there but that's it. Sometimes, when all is well, you almost worry more thinking "is everyone still ok in there?? ".

Ok. gotta go walk the doggy. Talk to you later :)

I know, it does seems like a long time, at first I was weary of a lot of ultrasounds, but now that I had two and they were growing well I realize how reassuring it is. I haven't had one since 8 wks! I will go next week, for the level II. I have heard the heartbeats twice since 8 wks and they sound great. She says I am growing well, I guess by looking at my belly and seeing my weight gain. This doc takes a little more natural approach with everything, which is exactly what I wanted, but after having the first two sonos with a different doc I guess I got used to that reassurance. I may actually have another before 7 months because she said if they see any discrepancy at all they won't wait that long. I am thinking there is usually some discrepancy in growth rates, so....

Also, by 7 months I do think she means 28 weeks. So, I guess that would be average then, if everything else is going good.

I am having a little dry mouth, but try to just take a sip so I don't have to get up to go to the bathroom even more then I already am!

I take my prenatal at night also, along with my folic acid. She said she wasn't too worried about the iron because I started out at a pretty good point anyways. I guess she just prescribes that right from the start with twins. I may wait a little while to start taking them again, when the blood supply increases more. My prenatal even has iron it it, so I'm getting some there.

They need to hurry up and call me back about my Level II! Has anyone had theirs yet? Does it take a long time? She said something about it taking a while. Is it just like a regular u/s, but with higher resolution?

Hi ladies!

This board looks so useful and helpful for us twin moms. I am learning so much already just by browsing. I thought I would introduce myself to everyone, though. I am 23 y/o and I've been married for 3 1/2 years. We are expecting our first two August 8th. It was a complete surprise when we found out by ultrasound during a trip to L&D at 16 weeks for bleeding. I had all the twin dreams and the feeling that there was more than one, and it was so nice to have that confirmed so people wouldn't think I was crazy for "thinking it was twins". I'm having my level II ultrasound next friday. I can't wait to get some better photos of our little ones!!!! :yippee:

Hello everyone! Hope that everyone is doing good.

I have not posted in a couple of weeks but have been busy reading all the new posts since then. It is so great to hear about everyone's experieinces and symptoms.

As a reminder I am due 8/5 but have been reading the July forum also since I will have some July babies I am sure.

Just wanted to share the exciting news that we had our ultrasound last Monday and found out that we are having g/g twins. I could not be happier because I wanted a daughter so badly - was not expecting two though. DH is already talking about two weddings :) to pay for some day!

Again, hope that all is well with everyone.

Hello all,

I just joined and look forward to chatting with you all. My bf and I have been together for 7 years and when we found out in December we were pregnant we were thrilled and surprised as it's our first baby (or so we thought!)and we were not expecting it...you can imagine our surprise when we went for our triple-screen u/s on valentines day at 13 weeks and were told it was two babies..(if only he hadn't of asked the techie what the round 'thing' was above the perfect profile of baby A was..lol) especially considering there is no family history of twins on my side at all. It's a valentines day we will never forget!

So we were even more pleasantly surprised to find out the babies share a placenta and have a very thin membrane between the sacs (mono-di twins). I am impatiently waiting for March 27 when I go for my next u/s and we can find out (fingers crossed for co-operating babies) if they are boys or girls! Anyways, my due date is Aug 18, but well you know the drill, we'll deliver when they are ready to come home!

Talk to you soon,
Michelle
p.s..i'll post the first u/s pics when i can...they turned out very good

Welcome and congratulations Michelle !!!

Eat plenty and well, drink a LOT of water and stay positive (don't read too much about complications and negative stuff on the internet !!!).

I cannot wait either for our next U/S, I know what you mean. Last time was when we learned they were twins (15w) and it was a routine U/S before the amnio tests so it still feels like a blurr. We will know tomorrow (by phone... not much of a service we are getting here..) what the sexes are at the same time as the amnio results (ouf... we are nervous.. for the down syndrome more than the sexes !).

How is everybody's weight gain ?? I am not able to make myself eat high calories junk food in order to attain the 3500 calories / day goal. It doesn't seem right to me... I think these are empty calories. I eat as much as I can of the good stuff and try to have all my food groups / minerals / etc... at each meal and take prenatal vitamins every morning, especially since I am not able to do red meat since I got pregnant (DH just called to say he bought himself a big steak for tonight...) he is done with the salads/fish/rice diet...:rotflmbo: I recently became friends with Haggen Daaz however (miam). At 18w 4 days, I took 10 pounds so far, mostly all in the belly and boobs. Will the boobs continue growing like that through the other 21 weeks ??? my god ! I could do without that even though DH is very happy !! Need to go shopping (again) for some more comfortable bras.

Only symptoms: headaches, runny nose, real fast heart beat even at rest, and my hips feel a bit stiff at night. It's also hard to drink 1 gallon of water every day.

Looking forward to Spring, to sandals, skirts and comfortable summer clothing !!! I could not imagine spending winter with a huge belly with the boots, the snow jackets and everything.

Bye everyone and have a great day !!

Hello everyone and welcome Michelle!!!

Well, we're all plugging along, and before you know it, these babies will all be here. We went for our level II US yesterday. Everything was perfect on the study, and we are having TWO BOYS!!!! This will definitely be a big change for us, as we have two teenage daughters now. We are so blessed and can't wait.

Michelle- It definitely is difficult some days to get those calories in, and often I can't quite do it. I'm just trying to get enough protein and fat while minimizing the sugars. Like you, though, I have been adding some ice cream. As for the water, that's my biggest struggle. Typically, I get anywhere from 80-110oz., but that's through forcing it. I wish there were an easier way. My heart rate also is much higher at rest. Pre-pregnancy, it was about 56 bpm, and now it's about 80-90bpm. I guess our hearts are working over time to supply three lives.

I've been reading the posts from the May board and realizing that we all just have to take it one day at a time, especially in the third trimester. Right now, my biggest complaint is not being able to get comfortable to sleep, but other than that, things are great!!

I hope that everyone else is doing well. Have a great day!!

I just talked to my nurse today. She said the results from the Quad screening looked ok and that I would be going for my Level II Ultrasound at 21 weeks. Does that sound right? When I talked to the doc at 16 weeks she said I would be going in a couple of weeks. When are the Level II's usually done?

Thanks,

Doctors usually want a level 2 around 20ish weeks, unless there is a problem. My doctor did say with twins I will have more of them than with my other kiddos. When is your ultrasound set for?? Are you going to find out the sexes??

Hi everyone! I haven't posted in a while - welcome to all the newcomers!

I am feeling MUCH better. The m/s is gone thank goodness and I have gained 12 lbs. I am not worrying about things like "empty calories" these days. I remind myself that every calorie I eat is a calorie toward making my babies healthy! I eat three breakfasts a day just to get out of the house (a bowl of granola, then eggs and toast, then fruit salad!) My snacks are usually fruit and carrots or broccoli dipped in french onion veggie dressing and lunch is a sandwich and yogurt with an apple and dinner varies. I am still not very hungry in the evening, but try to eat at least some creamed spinach at the least! I can't stand chicken or ground beef so it limits my options!

We did the nucleo translucence (SP?) test and decided against the amnio. If it were a singleton we would have done something had there been a problem, but the risks were to high to the others if something were only wrong with one. We felt comfortable with the numbers from the results of our tests.

Our peri is the head of OB/GYN at the hospital and used to be the head of high risk so even though her bedside manner isn't so hot I know we are in good hands. It is incredible how different things are handled with twins vs. triplets. I get an u/s every two weeks to check on the babies, but also ME to make sure I am not dialated or having pre-term labor symptoms. I see the doctor only once every 4 weeks now, but that will move to once a week soon. Also, she tells me bed rest is a matter of when not if!!! Any appointment I go to, if she doesn't like what she sees, off to bed I go! EEEK. We heard this early on though so we have become more comfortable with it!

I get my next u/s on March 23 (I'll be one day shy of 18 weeks) and am desperately hoping we can find out the sexes. Since I don't know when I'll be regulated to bed my mom and I want to get the nursery colors done and the registry together and want to know the sexes!!!!

Glad to hear everyone is doing so well!

Hello everyone...its been a while since I have posted. Just when I thought htings were settling down...life happened. I wanted to stop in and see how you all were doing and am glad to read that things seem to be going well for you all! Things here are going well also.

Went to the peri yesterday and had an ultrasound done. Both babies are looking really good and weigh about 7oz each. We found out one is a boy and one is a girl. I finally hgave my girl! Yeah! She's baby A and he's baby B. She was really quite uncooperative...wouldn't quit moving for even a second. We think she doesn't like the sound of the u/s. He, however, was very cooperative! LOL My boys are excited to have a brother and a sister on the way. They are measuring about 18 weeks each and doing really well. She told me to expect really good sized babies since I have a history of large babies, but won't know exactly how large she means for a few more months. Her initial guess kinda scared me, but we'll see.

Not much else to report here. I'm really glad to read that you all are well and I really hope I can make time to be up here more often. Take it easy and TTYS.

My level two u/s will be scheduled for 21 weeks. I guess I thought it was suppossed to be sooner since my previous doc had said I would have it at 16 weeks, but with her I also would have had an u/s at 12 weeks. I guess as long as I am gaining weight and the heartbeats sound good they don't do the u/s until 21 weeks. I'll look on the bright side, I won't have to miss any extra work! I will be in for an appointment, weight, heartbeats on April 5, I will be 20 weeks. So until then it is rest and eat! I need to try and get some walking in, but I'm not sure how that will go since I get winded just walking from the car and up the stairs into work. :)

Hi everyone,
I am new to these boards but am 34 yrs old and 16w5d pregnant with IVF twins. My due date is 8-26-05. This is our first pregnancy. My husband and I were so excited that our first try with IVF was a success then when we found out it was twins we were overjoyed. Due to my age and the fact that we went through IVF my OB has had me coming for visits every 2 weeks. It had been very comforting getting checked that often and seeing the ultrasound each time. Two weeks ago a had a little episode where I passed a small blood clot and had some bleeding that lasted for about 5 hours. I had to see a Perinatalogist the very next day. At that visit my peri was a little concerned because Baby B was measuring 4 days behind Baby A in growth. She wanted to watch me very closely and I am now seeing her every two weeks also. When we went for our visit on Tuesday we did not get good news. The growth gap between Baby A & B had gotten larger and Baby B is now measuring 11 days smaller than Baby A. Of course they have to give you all the worse case scenario's which scare the pants off of you but my husband and I are going to take things one day at a time. Some of the possibilities she is concerned with is that it may have a chromosomal defect such as Down's or it could be a "Vanishing Twin". I can't dwell on the negative because that will just bring down. I am hoping that with a positive attitude and lots of prayers everything will be ok with both of my babies. We still have not found out what the sex is but hope to soon. I look forward to getting to know all of you as we go through this wonderful experience and hopefully a not to hot summer together!!!

Melissa--

We're scheduled for our LevelII U/S at exactly 19 weeks, which the Genetic Counseling Center assures us is a perfectly normal time to do it. Actually, they said that U/S followed by anmnio is OK up to Week 22, so you should be fine. I admit that I'm feeling VERY impatient see good images of my little ones!

Also, big thanks to Manon and K and Lisa and Julie (and anyone else I'm forgetting!) for the thoughts on amnio. We basically decided to put off the decision by deciding that we'll do the Level II U/S, and if there's a problem, we'll schedule the amnio for the next day. If all looks good, we'll probably forgo it.

Is anyone out there having their belly (fundal height) measured by their doctor? All of the older women at work who already have kids keep asking me, "What's your measurement?", and my doc has never done that. Is it "out of fashion" or is it just not done with twins? Anybody know?

Also, I just had a GREAT experience: I went to a meeting of our local twins club (see http://www.nomotc.org to search for your local chapter). They run meetings for expectant parents together with parents with twins under 1 year, and it was so inspiring to see all these moms -- some with twins only 6 weeks old! -- out and about and coping just great! I got tons of fantastic advice, and really, just SEEING the ways that moms handle two at once left me calmer than I've been since I found out it was 2. I admit I've been feeling quite intimidated by the thought of what to do once they're here...

Lipilou- Are your babies identical? Did the dr say anything about TTTS?? I have been thinking about you alot and can't imagine how worried you must be. This will be a long two weeks, my thoughts are with you.

It is nice to hear others get "winded" from doing such simple things. Up until pregnancy I was running and full of energy, now I walk upstairs and need a break(this makes life with preschoolers hard ;) . My patients is definatly down.

Hows everyones weight gain -People talk of the 20# by 20weeks and the 24# by 24weeks. I'm at 16 weeks and up 6#'s. Today I am doing a test(I think I'm already cheating) I'm trying to figure out how much I am drinking since we should be drinking about a galon a day:spitwater :spitwater .

Has anyone started having BH contrax already??

Hope everyone is doing great, rest up.

lipilou- welcome to the board and congratulations on your pregnancy! I am sorry to hear about the difficulties you are experiencing. I will keep you in our prayers and hope that everything begins to look up for you guys! I thouhgt about TTTS too...has your dr mentioned that at all?

daffodils- my dr is measuring fundal height. She did with my last pregnancy too. At 16 weeks I was 21 cm. Could you ask your dr to measure you if you wanted?

KKMOTO- I hear you on the winded thing! I am so winded doing so many things...it's amazing how different it is with multiples. And, yes, it does make life that much more difficult with preschoolers around! Trying to keep up with everyone is exhausting! LOL I've had a few BH contractions already...suprised a little, but shouldn't be. I'm 17w4d...only get them once or twice a day though. As for weight gain...thankfully, I'm on track for now. I gained 17 pounds at 16 weeks...hopefully I can stay on track wiht how little I am able to eat each time I can eat.

Hope you all are doing well...I'm off to pick up my preschooler from school. I'll catch you all later!

Hi ladies! All is oging well with me so far. I had my level II u/s yesterday. Both babies are looking great so far! They did find that Baby B - Joshua - has enlarged Kidneys. They didn't seem overly concerned YET, but said that it was something they wanted to monitor very closely. Anyone hear of anything similar?

Both babies are growing beautifully! The tech said that Baby A - Hannah - has long legs and arms. She is 13 oz and he is 11 oz. We're going to the twins clinic for weekly appointments. Starting next week (20wks) they will check my cervix every week. That comforts me more than anything, since my biggest point of anxiety is preterm labor. And, I'll have monthly growth scans.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Hi there ladies,

Geez go on spring break for a week and all sorts of news happens. It sounds like everyone is doing their level II or will be doing it soon. I had mine last Thursday at 17 weeks. Which is a bit early. They said I will need to come back to get a better look at the hearts the doctor said it was too early to really get a good look so I am going back at 22 weeks. As far as others questions on timing on level II I was told best time to do all the anatomy measurments is between 17-19 wks, 18 being best, and then to get a good look at the hearts is 22-24 weeks. So back we will go. But we did find out we are having boy/girl twins. I am so excited. I knew one was a girl from very early on, and girls run in my husbands family, we already have a 3 year old girl, so this will be the only boy in my husband's family. My 3 year old wanted a sister so badly so everyone is happy. I just want them healthy.

What have been your ob's recommendations for total weight gain? I was told to try and limit at 40lbs. So I have been keeping that in mind. I live in South Texas and it is going to be so horribly hot by June I don't even want to think about it.

Has anyone started feeling your babies move? I have begun to get the flutters in the evening. I am wondering what this is going to feel like in a few weeks, they both seem very active on the ultrasounds.

It is pretty amazing how the activity has picked up on this board in the last week, but so exciting!!:yippee:

It's so great to have other women going through the same experiences to share with and get advice from. This pregnancy seems to be going by so fast. This Friday, I will be 20 wks. We had our level II US last week and found out that we were having twin boys!! It was such a surprise, as I've had myself convinced that they were boy-girl. Why, I don't know. I currently have to teenage daughters ( 14 & 18), so this will be a whole new experience. I hope I have the energy at age 38 to keep up:crazy: The babies both looked perfect and our nuchal scan last month was negative, so the peri said that our risk for Down's was 1/8000. Pretty good stats. I go for the quad screen this week, but am tempted to decline it now.

Lisa- my peri reccomended 45lbs wt gain. At 19 1/2 weeks, I have gained 17lbs. I don't feel like I'm overeating, but trying to eat healthy. Some days are really difficult, as I feel full immediately after I start eating. I know what you mean about the hot summer and pg. I'm in SW Florida, and it's already in the 80's. It seems like my belly is growing larger by the day, and I can only imagine how it will be next month. It's really exciting though. Each day is one day closer to holding these little ones.

I hope everyone else is doing well. Can't wait to get to know everyone. Have a great day.

Blessedbeyondbelief...where in SW Florida do you live? We moved from Cape Coral back to Texas last June.

I have a question about the quad screening, the peri I went to said that the results are really not all that accurate because it is a blood test and they can't tell if whatever they are testing for is coming from one baby or the other or both...does that make sense? I just took this at face-value b/c it sounded like it made sense. Has anyone heard this?

labmom-I've heard that the quad screening is extremely accurate, especially in recent times.

Hot summer: I think lots of water will save us from the hot weather.

Level II u/s: I am going for mine at 21 weeks, so hopefully they will be able to see everything they need.

Weight: My doc suggested I gain 35 pounds. I was probably about 108 before pg and at 15 weeks I was 114. My doc said I was growing well.(My stomach is huge already.)

I have been feeling the babies move, but just flutters, nothing really definate.

That's all for now, just trying to keep up the eating and drinking water! Rest is somewhat out of the question right now with full time work and a 3 1/2 year old!

ABBIE- That's great you already have your little ones named, DH and I can never fiure a name out until we are ready to leave the hospital. I guess that stems from being the babies in the family so we can't seem to make a decision. Will they need to monitor Joshua more often?? Do they think the enlarged kidneys will resolve?? Your babies sound like they have awsome weights!! :)

Outnumbered321- Awsome weight gain, I'm trying. I eat all the time but still only up 6#. I weigh every wednesday so we will see tomorrow. (I never thought I would want to gain weight).

Waiting for twins- Congats on the girl/boy, I can't wait to find out!!

Lisa- Congrats on the girl/boy also. My OB said we don't need to do the Quad screen for those same reasons. As for weight gain my OB said between 45 and 55#(WOW), Ineed to start packing it on!! As for movement, I have only felt a little.

Lisa M.- Congrats on two boys. I don't know what I am having yet but if I am having girls then we will have 4 teenagers in the house at one time:crazy:
Or if we wind up with one boy and 3 girls then the poor boy will live in princess gear, having one particularly bossy older sister.

Well my Q's- Anyone else have PUDD?? I think thats what it is called it's a beautiful, itchy belly rash. I never had it with my first two.. I am so lucky;)
Oh we were going to get a home equity loan to finish all the remodling that we started about 2 years ago, when last night we started talking seriously about tearing our current house down and building a new one.. We will see what happens.

Whoaa.. the board is getting busy .. yeah !!

Congratulations WaitingforTwins and Lisa for the boy/girl... That would be my wish (since this might be it after that and they will be our first ones) but we'll take anything !! and congratulations LIsa M. for the two boys !!

I am still waiting for our amnio results (which were due last Thursday but apparently they are very busy right now... argh... we cannot wait to know if everything is OK and to know the sexes !). We were told tomorrow afternoon, let's hope this time it's true. We are getting the level II I guess (they did not give it a particular name...) Thursday morning. Big week. Cannot wait to see them again.

PUDD: no, not yet. Just itchy skin all over. My belly and surrounding areas get buttered up every night in Karitea butter. Not sure if it'll do anything (besides greasing my bed and underwear) but it doesn't hurt to try !!

Weight gain: I am taking almost 2 pounds every week since week 16 so it's getting there. Not sure if it's helping my butt or the babies grow however  I am gaining some appetite for the not so good stuff (popsicles, candies, fries...) but I am trying hard to resist. Seems like DH wants to put some fat on me as he keeps buying the stuff from the not so healthy isle :rotflmbo: .

Bye ladies, talk 2 u later ;)

KKMoto & Outnumbered321, Thanks for your prayers and kind words. I is definately a very long two weeks in between each visit but I just take it one day at a time and continue thinking positive thoughts. As for your TTTS questions, I do not have identical twins so there is no chance of TTTS. That was actually one of my first questions because I work with a girl that actually lost her twins to this and I was aware of the problem it can cause. I am thankful that each baby has its own placenta and this is not an option. I will keep you all posted as to my progress. Thanks again for your prayers and thoughts.

I am 19w 1/2 and still haven't felt much movement either besides flutter (and even then, hard to say if it's them or gaz :D ).

It seems we should expect something in the next few weeks. Cannot wait either !!

I just learned we have the boy/girl pair also !!!!! and the amnio results were all clear (pfew). Tomorrow Level II :yippee:

Hello ladies - it has been a while since I have posted on this forum. Glad to see it is picking up in here!

I have been posting mostly on the July board since my due date is 8/5 and will most likely have these babies in July. I still like to check in here and see if there is any activity going on. Glad to see some more people have joined us August mommies!

Lipilou - my prayers are with you - please keep us posted.

Congrats to all of you who have found out the sex of your babies. We found out two weeks ago that we are having two girls. I am so excited about that. DH is excited too but not quite as excited as me since he really wanted a son. He will love these girls more than life and he knows it.

Just wanted to check in and say hello and see how everyone is doing.

Dont forget to drink that water ladies! :spitwater

Hi everybody. I'm new here and I just had my first peri appt two days ago. We had a Level II Ultrasound which was so cool! We're having two beatiful girls. They were moving around a lot which was surprising to see since I haven't felt much yet- but from the looks of it I'll be feeling more than I want to pretty soon. Twin A was kicking her sister in the head the whole time! I am in a really neat twin program that follows Dr. Luke's book pretty closely I even have my own nutritionist who will call me every week. I'm having a hard time with the diet- is anybody 100% on this? I need to gain 5 lbs in the next 2 weeks and already most of the time I when I eat, it feels like I'm just stuffing it in for the babies. For those who are familiar with Dr. Luke's book, what does the 50 percentile mean regarding the babies' weights and sizes at particular ages? Does that mean the average? Anyway I'm so grateful there is a community like this for us all, it makes me feel less freaked out about all the twin issues!

Welcome, this is getting exiting having more August people everyday-Yeah
The 50% thing is that basically 50% of kids at that age are bigger and 50%
are smaller.. But it is based on kids in the (mideast?? and from I think the 80's). We have 2 kids and chart wise one is in the 3%til the other up until about a month ago was in the 75%til. I don't know if it's more accurate before birth or not?? anyone know??
I love Dr. Lukes book, although not following it completly.

happppy friday! i make 19 weeks today! go me!

i stayed home yesterday. i got on a couple to times to read the posts but mainly stayed in bed...dh was sick wednesday nite so i didn't sleep well so i decided to stay home from work and sleep. i really needed it!

we did get up and go to the baby shop and ordered our baby furniture.... its not the same one i showed yall a couple of weeks ago. i knew once dh went to the baby store he would love the more expensive one in the front right when you walk in. its soooo pretty in person. i loved it but it was $615 and we need two!!! but he said he like that one better than the other one. so we ordered it in the cherry wood color. i can't wait to get it. we ordered 2 cribs, 1 armoire and a combo changer/dresser. we figured when we split up the rooms the boy can get the armoire and the girl can have the dresser which will have a hutch too.
http://babyappleseed.com/millbury-crib.html
we are doing the nursery just like the one in this picture too, with the bead board and a sage color on the walls & wood floors.
sooo $2716 later..we have our baby furniture ordered! i can see we are going to be spending alot of money!!! but atleast this crib does go to the toddler bed to full size bed. and its really pretty as a full size bed. we want one for our bed! lol

be prepared to spend alot of $$$$$$$$ with the twins!!!

hope everyone has a happy happy friday!

Hi everyone, I am new to this board, but I'm anxious to talk to twin mommies. I am actually due Sept 4th, but I will have a scheduled c-section the week before so that would be august. So right now I'm not sure which board to go to. lol I have two other kids, and 8 yr old and a 3 yr old. Right after we found out my husband would be transferring from south carolina to nebraska, is when i found out about the twins. We thought it would be better to let me go home with my parents where I will have help and know someone because of my hard pregnancies. I miss my husband, but I feel a million times better knowing that my family is right here and I dont have to drive 30 minutes + to get anywhere. I'm nervous about this pregnancy but I'm getting better. I just stopped reading all the books that were making me worry and try to take one day at a time. I would like to post here sometimes if that's ok. I look forward to meeting everyone.

Waiting4twins, that furniture is beautiful. I just love it. We are using our 3 year olds crib (which is currently a toddler bed) and giving her a really pretty day bed that is in our study and then a wonderful friend is letting me borrow a crib from her. So at least we can save some money there. But we do need a changing table and dresser of some type for the twins. Right now they will share a room, our house is too small to do it any other way for the time being. After being smushed in my belly I dont' think they will mind sharing a room!

Wendyjane~ for percentiles like if a baby is in the 65%, out of 100 kids yours is bigger/longer etc than 65 of them. As far as the diet is concerned I hate to admit it, but I don't have Dr. Luke's book ( I should, but I just don't) so I am not following a strict diet. I am trying to eat as much good stuff as I can, tons of fruit and veggies whole grains etc. My problem is I gain too much weight. So I am really trying to watch my sugars and sweets, but sometimes I just can't pass up a Blizzard from DQ...my weakness. Oh and of course if it is someone's birthday at work...watch out cause I want a piece of cake!

03-24-2006, 04:33 PM
The Blizzard discussion is funny. My OB actually prescribed ice cream every night! He said as long as it's one of the high-quality ones (made with real milk and cream, no artifical sweeteners, no artificial thickening agents) and as long as I dump nuts or dried fruit on top, then I'm to eat away!

The worst of it is that I never thought it would be possible to get tired of Haagen Daaz, but it is.....

No movement yet from the twins. I'm at 17 1/2 weeks, and getting anxious. I'm really looking forward to actually feeling pregnant and not just big.

Is anybody out there still having problems with vomiting? The nausea is almost completely gone, but if I eat too much or too fast, a couple of bites' worth comes up. It's much worse if I lie down after eating. I'm usually hungry again immediately after, so it's not interefering too much with eating, but it's really annoying.

Hope everyone has a good weekend! We're going shopping for cribs...

Hi everyone,

Is anyone else having trouble eating? I swear I could eat 50 times more when I wasn't pregnant, and with my other pregnancies, but i eat one little corn dog or something and I'm full. But then 30 minutes later I'm starving to the point of nausea. Weird, I thought I'd be able to eat more since I'm eating for 3 lol. Congrats Dina on your boys. I won't find out for 3 1/2 more weeks. I think i've been feeling a bit of movement, but who knows it may be gas. I'm ready to feel a swift kick so that I'll know for sure. I probably won't shop until towards the end. I plan on using bassinets at first to make it easier since I'm going to have a c-section. I have my daughters bed that she hardly ever used. I really need to work on my water drinking. I'm doing better since I am drinking any at all. I've gotten so lazy that I got a small refrigerator in my room so I won't have to get up out of the bed. Then stupid me didn't check the temperature and I froze my fruits, and I mean they are like ice. People keep telling me things like, those babies are going to stick to you if you don't move around, and I'm like stuck on what?!? People say some stupid things sometimes. Oh poor thing, what are you gonna do with two? I'm like... take care of them?!?!? I see it as a blessing, not a curse. And except for the nausea/fatigue this pregnancy has been easier than my last one and the nausea is gone. So blessed is the word for me. Anyways I"m rambling now, I hope everyone is doing well. P.S. is anyone doing a website or anything to show their growing tummies? It's kinda late for me but I was wondering where a good site was and I'd like to see some if anyone wants to share. Thanks

Hi ladies,

It's so great to hear that everyone's doing so well and that we have so many new mommies-to-be.

My dh and I have been shopping for our twin boys for several weeks now, but only a little here and there. I ordered and received a new Medela Pump in Style breast pump this week. I'm really going to try my best to nurse these little ones. I also ordered the EZ2 Nurse twin breastfeeding pillow, but haven't received it yet. We're going to buy one of the cribs this weekend, but did buy the Laura Ashley pack n' play which has all the gadgets. We'll probably use it for the first months and have them sleep together for awhile. We bought the snap n' go double stroller and Graco SafeSeat car seats. It's still really hard to imagine that this is all real, even though the kicks are getting stronger by the day.

Lisa- I live in Port Charlotte. We're still re-building our house from hurricane Charley a year and a half ago. Our contractor turned out to be a thief and now it's a matter for the courts. Did you have any damage in Cape Coral?

I was curious as to how much weight everyone has gained so far? I am 20wks and have gained 18lbs. :scale: I've been trying to follow Dr. Luke's recommendations for weight gain, and so far have done really well. I look in the mirror when I get out of the shower and wonder whose body this is. I used to run 25-35 miles a week, and now I'm not really exercising at all. I do need to drink a lot more water and eat more protein. I always feel like I need to stretch out when I eat so that my stomach has room. Otherwise, my stomach gets full with a couple of bites.

Has anyone else contacted the Twins and multiples groups in their areas? I know that we have one here, but I haven't called yet. It would be great to get to know others with twins in my area.

Have a great weekend everyone!!

Hi all, I'd have to say I've already gained too much weight. The nurse told me that I should only gain 25-30 lbs, I guess because I was already overweight, but I feel she shouldn't have wasted her time telling me that since I'm pretty sure I have exceeded that in the last 4 months or at least met that weight. I'm not really sure but I know that with my two singletons I gained like 50 lbs at least. I thought about pumping milk for the babies, but not particularly breast feeding since I will need all the help I can get the first couple of weeks. The c-sections are pretty hard on me, i'm not a fast healer. But it seems so confusing, I'm not sure yet. I guess I'll be more excited to shop when I find out what they are. I have been wanting a butterfinger blizzard ever since reading that earlier post lol. Anyone have any certain foods that just cannot get tired of? I want this mexican restaurant Casa Ole' every day. I just can't wait to find out what they are, I am sooo hoping for a boy and a girl. Well talk with everyone later!

Jay-Welcome, even if you started out big 25-30ish pounds doesn't seem like enough. As for the Blizzard I never wound up getting one although last night DH made me a shake with rasberries, it was good but not the same as a Blizzard.

At 17 weeks I was up 10#'s that includes the 4#'s I gained from week 16-17 opps:)

Well I didn't find anything at the twin garage sale-it was a zoo in there.

Blessed~ Port Charlotte, wow! That is terrible about your contractor, good luck with that. No, we didn't have any damage to our house, but we had a huge yard with tons of trees, and that was a mess, but at least I had a roof. My birthday is Aug. 14th so I got a chainsaw for my present to cut all the trees down, what a nightmare that all was. We were without power for a week, but I am sure you were worse. That is the main reason we moved back to Texas I freaked out when it was like every two/three weeks hurricane stuff, I am a teacher and they kept cancelling school, I just couldn't stand it. We moved to a town north of San Antonio so we missed all the mess with Rita this year too. Whew. I do miss Florida though.

bateacher~ I was walking, but was starting to get some lower belly pains so I stopped. I finally got Dr. Luke's book. I got it at the mutiples club big sale, who ever said it was a zoo at the one they went to...I second that. Boy you need to be there before they open the doors. I did get a nice bouncer chair for $7 though and Dr. Luke's book. But after reading the book I am scared to death of preterm labor, so I definately am not going to walk anymore. I will still walk around the neighborhood while my dd rides her bike, but that is it.

03-27-2006, 10:43 AM
Dr. Luke says something about not walking?!!! I had no idea. I think I had read something about not squatting, which really helped me in my first pregnancy as far as opening up the hips, so I have still been doing it only not as much. I just want to be fit for the labor as I still plan on drug-free, unless that changes because of some medical reason. I don't know how I will be physically ready for labor if I can't walk....

labmom
03-27-2006, 02:11 PM
no, Dr. Luke doesn't say to stop walking, but to listen to your body, and when I am walking and afterwards I have lower belly pains, so I am thinking this is not a good thing for me to continue. I am a teacher and stand alot and walk around the campus alot all day. I am in a portable building and have to walk aways to go to the restroom, which is a trip I make numerous times a day. So, I guess by 4:30 my body is saying enough.

Good for you to be walking and I am glad it gave you more energy, we all know that is hard to find.

Hi everyone!

I got my butterfinger blizzard today! :yippee: It actually made me feel a little less tired, for about 45 minutes lol. I am starting to feel like this fatigue I am feeling is extreme. I know that I'm not getting a lot of sleep because of bathroom trips, but i really am so tired that I could literally lay down all day and night. I am not sure how normal that is in the 2nd trimester. What is the name of the Dr. Luke book you all are talking about? I have a book that has her name on it, it has scared me to death, but then again, it's not as bad as all of the other books. I got to read about anything and I swear even topics about bottle feeding talks about premature birth. Walking.... not even a thought at this point... i am too tired to barely walk to the bathroom lol. I did walk with my first pregnancy, my second was very difficult so I didn't walk too much. I haven't walked at all with this one. Bateacher, if you feel good doing it, you should continue. I think only if you are hurting yourself, or the doctor restricts you, would be reasons not to exercise. I didn't realize how much I'd miss my dh, I spent about 2 1/2 mths of my second pregnancy away from him, he was working hard enough, and then having to drive an hour or so to the emergency room when he would get off, so being closer to the family was easier. But I didn't realize how much I want him to share this "special" pregnancy with me. It's harder than I thought. I hope this board becomes busy again because I am really starting to annoy myself with all of this rambling :rotflmbo: Hope everyone is doing well! Going to go lay down again.. YAY!!

Hi everyone,
DH and I had another checkup today with both my OB and the Peri. My OB has not said anything to me yet but I am waiting for him to because I have actually only gained a total of 4 lbs even though I feel like I have gained more than that. My Peri is still a little concerned with Baby B but she felt better today as it had gained 3 days of growth since 2 weeks ago. Baby B is still measuring 8 days behind Baby A but it is not as bad as the full 2 weeks behind it was last time. She is still a little cautious about it possibly being Downs Syndrome but she said that the head, hands and feet do not show any signs of any deformities that should be visible if it was Downs Syndrome causing the difference in growth. Baby A is still measuring exactly to the day that it should. She said there is a spot on the heart called a "sweet spot" that is typically a signal of Downs but it can also appear in 3-4% of normal pregnancies. I am currently at 18 weeks 3 days and am feeling every bit of it. I definately felt more relieved today then I did 2 weeks ago. We still need to keep praying but I know in my heart that everything is going to be fine.

We also were able to find out what they are today!!!!!!!!
Baby A is a GIRL!!!!!!!! Baby B is a BOY!!!!!

We have been blessed with one of each which really means that this is our first, second and last.

Dinak1, I completely agree with you about my hips aching. I too wake up at night and can barely move. My tailbone has also been hurting for me but I think that is because I have a desk job and anytime I try to get up I have to do it carefully or else I am in pain.

To all of those craving ice cream I have to have a bowl every night. It just tastes so good.

Hope everyone is doing fine and drinking their water. :spitwater

Talk to everyone later.

Dina--

My hips have also been hurting at night so bad that it wakes me up (well, that and the trips to the bathroom). It's gotten better since I started using a pillow between my legs at night, but it's definitely still there. I haven't found a way to lie on my side without bending my legs at the knee, and I'd give anything to just be able to "stretch out" again!

Has anyone tried using one of those fancy full-body pregnancy pillows? Are they worth the money?

Hi everyone- I too have been craving that blizzard since last week after reading the post. As for the walking, I really have been doing much of nothing as far as exercise, other than housework. Every time I over exert myself in any way, I feel cramping and low pelvic pressure, so I back off. I'm so relieved to feel that I'm not the only one unable to get comfortable to sleep. It's been so frustrating and miserable to toss and turn, all the while waking up my dh every 15 minutes. What is it going to be like in a month from now. On Sat and Sun, I took two hour naps in the afternoon to make up for some of the lost sleep the nights before, but I can't do that during the week. I did finally break down and ordered a $65 pillow from BabyCenter. I'll let you all know if it brings a miracle and allows me to sleep. I'd pay anything at this point. Between back pain, hip pain, foot cramps, constipation, and chronic congestion, I'm having a blast. No really, I feel so blessed to have two little boys growing and kicking. It's such a surreal, amazing feeling. I look at pictures of the baby twins on this site, and can't even imagine that first moment that I lay eyes on them. It's great to have you all to share with.

Lori- I'm praying for you that your babies are both perfect. Please keep us informed.
Jay- I'm sorry that your dh is not near. I'm sure that you're in his every thought.
Any ideas on how to get all of this water in every day??? I'm struggling with it and feel so guilty. Usually I have about 80oz of fluids. I know I need more.

Good night

My hips don't hurt so much...it is my shoulders. They are killing me from only laying on my sides. I am usually a back sleeper. My hips did hurt with my first pg though. It was worse if I exercised that day, I would stop exercising and they wouldn't hurt at night. I am using a ton of pillows for support already, just king size, not a body pillow. I am curious to see if that works well.

Lori, congrats on the boy and girl. I am praying your little boy keeps growing strong, it seems like he has grown quite a bit since your last appt. I am rooting for him to keep it up.

Hey everyone,

I did get a "Snoogle" pillow from Babies R Us about two weeks ago. It was about $50 and I recommend it to everyone! It has helped me sleep so well I have to make myself get up to go to the bathroom. It's tricky to roll over in bed with it, so I just keep the pillow where it is and if I have to roll over to right side for a little while it cradles my back and under my head and between knees. Seriously, I had a hard time paying that much for a pillow- but it's twins so we deserve it!!!! And it's worth it! My husband is a little jealous of my attachment to this pillow:) Plus it curls up to support you if you are reading in bed, watching TV etc. Two thumbs way up from me!

I have had so much trouble with water. Before pg, I would drink 6-8 glasses a day with no problem. Now, I have not liked the taste the first 3 months, it is so weird. I think one glass of milk, tea, juice or gatorade counts. I don't remember how many ounces it is we are suppossed to drink. I think I only get about 40 oz. of water and one glass of milk and one glass of juice. I know that is no where near enough. I think once it starts getting hot outside I will be drinking more. I drank so much with my singleton!

Lori- Congrats on a boy and a girl, now it's time to shop and pick out names(or is that done?). I was glad to find out that the boy is catching up, it must be so stressful wondering.. Sometimes things that don't bother us much are made so much worse by friends/family, however well intentioned. When will you have your next ultrasound?

Lisa(blessed)- I hear you on the unable to get comfortable. I am also in the bathroom all night long. I have pelvic presure too, It scares me. I also have so many BH, but have had those with previous pregnancies. The twin pregnancy is just so different and scary(I think I need to throw all the books away). Next time I go to the dr. I'm going to ask to get my cervix checked-never thought I would want that;)

Lisa(labmom)[B]-Shoulders hurt here too, we will most likely get the hip pain too.. weehoo!! So are you the mom of a labrador or do you work in a lab?? just curious.

[B]Wendy-The pillow sounds awsome, I'll have to check it out. My husband says that I put the "blocker" up,since I have pillows all around me.

Any weird dreams? I had one that I was pole dancer in vegas, I can't remember if I was preg. or not(that would be a sight):rotflmbo:
Anyone else able to eat during the day but by dinner just fills so full??
What about shourtness of breath??

Hi everyone, how is everyones' day going? It has been raining non-stop since this morning over here. I think my whole body hurts when I get up, It just feels like I"m sore all over, like my hips and my sides.

Lori- Congrats on your boy/girl! I will pray for you that everything will be great. Keep us posted.

Lisa- I barely drink 2 or 3 bottles of water a day, so I am not the one to help. ;) But before I never drank water at all. Soda and juice, and 2 bladder infections later, I am trying harder. I like my water ice cold, so that's how. Plus I still drink soda, so I try to drink 2 bottles of water after each soda. Not very encouraging, but just to let you know you aren't alone lol.

Diane- dreams.. some of them would be too "vivid" to even post about. :rotflmbo: I have always been a weird dreamer, but I'd have to say I'm breaking records right about now. Most nights, like last night I had to force feed myself, this pregnancy is sooo different. I'm ready to go ahead and pig out lol. Short of breath.... my dh is constantly asking "why are you breathing so hard," I'm like.... I am walking!! Pitiful!! I hate to picture 3 months from now lol. Are you going to stick with K's for names when you find out the sexes or go with something different? I have J's, and I'm debating the same thing.

Well, I'm getting ready to cook some stew and force feed myself again, I hope everyone has a good day!

Yeah! I'm not the only one having problems drinking water. i try, but it just doesn't agree with me- so i force what I can.

I have some crazy dreams, too. At first, it always involved two cats or two dogs- this weekend was the first time it involved 2 babies.

I have the body pillow from Babies R Us, also. It definitely makes me more comfortable- but doesn't help with my hip aching. My dh calls it the Berlin wall. He jealous of it, too!

I also don't eat much at dinner. My big meal is my second breakfast. After lunch, it's to hard to eat much.

It's nice to hear that we're all experiencing a lot of the same things. It's nice to be able to relate to other people.

So has most picked their baby names, yet? Dh and I are just starting to discuss now that we know it's two boys. Luckily we seem to be agreeing on similar ideas. I have a feeling it would have been much harder for us if it were two girls.

Diane (kkmoto) - We have been tossing around Alexander Lucas for the boy and Anna Maria for the girl. I am pretty set on those names but DH says he still needs to think about it.

As for my next ultrasound, I get the pleasure of getting one every two weeks when I go to the Peri. My OB does a quick one also every two weeks (typically the same day) but they are only checking for heartbeats since they know that my peri is also doing one the same day.

For all of you having trouble drinking the water, I actually am drinking over a gallon a day and my OB asked me Monday if I was drinking enough water and he said that my sample did not look like I was. I would hate to see how much I would have to drink in order for it to look ok. I feel like I am floating most of the day.

Well hope everyone gets lots of sleep tonight.

Coocoo !!

I haven't had much time to check the board lately and just read everything !!! It's all so funny ! I guess we are all in the same boat ;)

We had our Level II ultrasound last Thursday and got some pretty hard news. Baby boy is perfect but baby girl has a kidney problem. Only one of them (thank god), as the other one seems to work fine since her amniotic fluid levels are good. Her poor little kidney is larger then normal and full of kysts. Snif. There should be no reason for the other one to let go as the development phase is over but it's really hard not to worry. They're not even out and I worry so much already and can feel so much love. Our first kids.....as you can see !!!

Lori; I can undersand how you feel !! good news you got !! I read a difference in size is usually normal so if it is getting closer, there are much less reasons to worry :throb:

Anyways, our moral is better now and we should see a specialist next week to discuss further but all in all everyone says she can lead a perfectly normal life with only one kidney... and the best I can do for her is stay positive and send in a lot of love.

I am still working but this should be my last week. Our OB should be filling the paperwork to put me on disability. As long as the insurance company doesn't fuss, I'll get to stop stressing and just think about us three.

As for the rest, reading your posts I guess I am still pretty lucky. I did do a lot of yoga before getting pregnant (I"m certified as a yoga instructor) and have been stretching every night all those problem areas (hips, lower back, pelvis, shoulders, etc..) and I think it makes a difference. With the belly getting bigger, it gets harder for some position but my body is aching for it even more too. I sleep mostly on the side or half side half belly.... I put one knee on my body pillow and can strech the other leg. So far so good but soon the belly will not allow that anymore.

You ladies are making me crave ice cream too !!!

Good news; both babies are large for their stage. 12-13 ounces. That was definitly a relief with all the fuss about Dr Luke book. They are in the size range for 21 week even though I did the ultrasound at 19 !!! yeah :yippee:

I have the cardio of an old cow and my heartbeat is around 110 at rest... that is my biggest issue so far

Well gotta go prepare dinner... and like you I may end up being able to eat two bites of it but need to make the effort anyways !!!

Jay-I don't know what we will name them, most likely no more K's but who knows. I don't know what I am having yet but I like Brooklyn and Berkley if it's as girl and a boy. The DH just says I don't know we have a long time.

Lori-Your names are great! It must be nice to be moving forward in the name department:)

Manon-Thats great that its your last week of work. Now you can just work on growing those babies. I can't believe how big they are! I will be thinking of you and your little girl, will the cysts be painful for her at all??

Well it's 6:30 here so I beter go cook dinner.

Hello everyone,

I'm having a lazy day today, nobody understands how tired I am. Plus the fact that my parents spoil me. My dad will drive me around because I am too tired to drive myself. Pitiful to be such a brat lol. I didn't mean to leave anyone out, has anyone else picked out names? Lori, your names are beautiful, sounds like royalty already ;) I have no clue and not too much worrying about them right now, we didn't agree on a name for our daughter until the night before I had to go for my c-section. I hear everyone talking about a peri, I don't have one of those, all i have is my regular ob, but then again I have only had one appt. Should I be worried about that? Does anyone else have any other kids? Manon, I will keep your baby girl in my prayers. Good job on staying in shape, that is awesome, you can bend over?!?! :rotflmbo: I envy you! I am really starting to want a body pillow now, I need all the sleep I can get. I might start looking into one. Well I don't really have an appetite today, I don't know why. I'm really starting to feel the babies move, especially when I drink tea. Anyone feeling actual kicks yet? I am really looking forward to that, and to the ultrasound. I am so hoping for a boy/girl set. That would complete my family, 2 of each. Well enough rambling, I can't wait to read the upcoming posts! :yippee:

Have a great day everyone, Jay:throb:

Diane~ labmom is for mom of 2 Labrador retrievers. We have a choc who is 9 and a black who is 7. I started using that when I was ttc my first and was on fertility boards, I have just stuck with the name so I don't forget. Sometimes I wish I worked in a lab though...I am a CSI junkie!

Manon~I am sorry to hear about your little girl's kidneys. Do they know why the cysts are there...or if they will go away? Were they able to tell you anything more?

Who mentioned shortness of breath. I teach high school and I was reading to my class yesterday and one of my student's asked if I wanted him to read so I could catch my breath! I have a hard time with that, even in conversation if I have been talking for awhile I have to stop to catch my breath. I can't imagine what it will be like in another month!

Ugggh the water, and the bathroom trips. Need I say more!

Wow - I dont read for a week and there are all kinds of posts! You all are making me want some ice cream now! I posted this on the July thread also but wanted to ask you August mommies also.

Okay ladies - went to my routine every two week US on Monday to find some distrubing news. Doctor says that one of the girls is growing at a significantly faster rate than the other. Baby A is 11oz and baby B is 14 ozs. He said that the weight is not the issue so much, but some how it is broken down in to percentiles which I dont understand. The percentile difference is significant - 28% vs 3% which sounds really scary to me. He said it could be a number of things and really did not have any answers. He reffered me to a high risk OB who I will see tomorrow. I understand that this doctor is one of the best high risk OB's in Houston which is very comforting.

I have been scared out of my mind - crying like a baby and praying like crazy. This is throwing me for a loop and I am naturally thinking worse case scenarios. Do any of you have any experience with this or know anything about this?

I have read about one taking blood supply from the others but dont know what the outcome of a situation like that would be.

Any words would be greatly appreciated right now. All I can do is freak out and worry over here which I know is the wrong thing to do. Positive attitude right? :) I want to do some searching online but am scared to see what they say.

Thanks,
Carmen

Carmen- Your situation sounds just like mine only they found mine at 14 1/2 weeks. I have seen my Peri 3 times this month and thought I was going to go crazy with worry. Are you having identical or fraternal twins? Mine are fraternal so there was no chance of TTTS (Twin to Twin Transfusion Syndrome). When I went over 2 weeks ago my girl was in the 36% and the boy was in the 3%. But this week the boy really did some catching up. This week she was at 9 oz and he was at 6oz and now only 8 days behind. I will keep you in my prayers.

Manon-I am sorry to hear about the cysts on your daughters kidney. I will also keep you in my prayers that everything else with go fine for you. I am jealous that you are getting put off of work this week. I get so worn out just working a full day anymore.

Well better go get another glass of water....LOL!!

here's a small update for everyone!...my identical twins are girls (well not 100% since they were sideways with two heads on the left and all the feet on the right and facing each other, so it was hard to get in there)..they were very very active too...it was maddening for the tech who was trying to take measurements..anyways the measured very close in size so that's a huge relief..no sign of TTTS at 19 weeks 5 days now...we got some good pics and a video so were set for now...

now a quick question i hope you can help out with...I am having a problem with motion sickness..i take the bus to and from work, but it's very bad...i have to get off the bus and walk a bit to clear it up..anyone else have this?....i have tried eating different things beforehand, different positions on the bus..standing, sitting, front, back...chewing gum and also bought the wrist bands that are supposed to help..but nothing works..i dread having to go to work every day!!!....any suggestions would help!

Thanks,

Carmen--

I'm so sorry you're scared. I know what that's like--I woke up in the middle of week 12 with blood everywhere and moderate cramps and I cried hysterically all the way to the emergency room, and then while waiting until they said all was OK. I'm a first time mom, and I was surprised to find how strongly I could love babies that aren't even here yet.

As for the Twin-to-Twin Transfer Syndrome where one twin dominates the nutrient supply, that ONLY happens if they are identical monoamnionic/monochorionic twins. If you have a good reason to think yours are fraternal, then TTTS probably isn't what's going on.

I have no experience with percentiles being looked at, BUT a woman in my pregnancy group just went through a stressful 3 weeks where one twin was at one point 2 1/2 weeks "larger" than the other, and they are less than 5 days different now. Her peri explained it as one twin went through a growth spurt early, the other one went through it later than usual. There IS variability in growth curves, and if they are fraternal twins, then they are two completely separate people and there's no reason to expect that they would be exactly the same.

I'll be thinking good thoughts for you in your visit to the peri tomorrow!

Hi everyone, just checkin in to see how everyone is doing. I'm starting to wonder about the ultrasound coming up, from these posts, all news isn't always the greatest. So everyone, I'll keep your babies in my prayers. I don't know anything about the bigger/smaller twin or anything like that, so I'll just pray for everyone. I just came from visiting my cousin, she just had her little baby. It made me even more excited, soon I will have 2 of those little beauties lol. She also reminded me of what my c-section would be like, she was doing particularly good though. Since when you only had to stay for 3 days? I've always stayed 5 days... weird. I think I consummed all of my calories today with my one mcdonalds meal, I actually ate it all. I'm doing pretty good with everything, I don't have anything to complain about right now. The only real thing that bothers me is extreme fatigue. Does anyone else have this thing when you move to the side or take a deep breath and it feels like you tugged your uterus or someone poked you? It scares me everytime. Murder, she wrote and the Golden girls are my shows right now. I was watching charmed, but I kept dreaming I was a witch and doing magic on people so I stopped watching for now lol. Well I'm going to run and cut off "babies special delivery" because it is too scary and depressing. I'll check back in later!

Jay-- I've been having weird pains for weeks now. Sometime when I a take a particularly deep breath it feels like someone is running a knife down my abdomen. Sometimes I just get a weird sharp cramp when I roll over in bed. I of course emailed my OB about this in a panic, and his response was basically "Yes, well, you are pregnant". He DID mention though that:

"pain to worry about is: very painful pain that persists, pain that "come and
goes" every 2-20 minutes.
hard to give you a list since pain in the abdomen is ubiquitous in
pregnancy"

Is anyone out there doing prenatal yoga? I'm thinking of joining a class and just wondered how easy it was with a twin pregnancy. My other choice is prenatal pilates. Any experience with that?

Jay - I've been having extreme fatigue also. My OB is completely unconcerned. He just replies - well, you've got two babies growing inside you! I"m also thrist all the stinking time!!! It drives me nuts. I drink between 4 and 6 liters of water everyday. :spitwater My nightly trips to the bathroom are making me so sleepy during the day I think.

Anyone having a hard time breathing? I always feel like I"m short of breath!!!

My check-up today revealed that everyone involved is in perfect health. They both look like they are getting much longer. I can't wait until my growth scan on April 11th to see how big they are. I will be 23 weeks then.

Keep up the good work ladies... let's get all these kiddos to 38 weeks

Okay had my appointment yesterday with the high risk doctor and here is the verdict for the time being:

I don’t have warm fuzzies at all – but don’t feel the need to cry either – it is still a waiting game basically.

First – they are identical! Yea – but not yea. With identical twins you run much higher risks for problems in the womb.

Second – it is not Twin To Twin Transfusion Syndrome (which I feared like hell). I will reiterate that he said it is not TTTS at this point …………. So guess it is still possible? Not sure about that.

Third - Developmentally they are both doing well from what I gathered. Both have 4 chambers in the heart, two kidneys, stomachs, lungs, still two girls, etc ……….

Forth – The problem is a placenta problem. The placenta is not providing enough for both of the girls – rephrase – one is taking more than the other is due to levels of amniotic fluid levels. One has more amniotic fluid than the other does. One is getting more nourishment than the other due to this.

Basically we have to watch the “little baby” and make sure that it grows at a good rate. He said it is common that with identical twins one is smaller than the other but maybe not so significantly. Anyone know more about this? If the “little baby” gets into trouble or does not grow or God forbid die then we have a MAJOR problem. I asked if reduction was an option and he said no – reduction is not an option with identical twins ……… in the case of reduction they would certainly both die being they are in the same placenta. I also gathered that basically if one dies by means other than reduction, the other will likely die which is pretty scary for me ………… but not gonna happen friends, not gonna happen! It is possible that they both continue to grow and one is just behind, that if I am at a good point in my pregnancy that they can be delivered. I asked if this means that earlier delivery is to be expected and he pretty much said it is very likely – I am talking before 36 weeks when I say early, by the way. I also asked if in that case that there is concern for developmental issues and he said yes it is possible which freaks me out also.

Basically – I am still scared, but feel more comfortable knowing what the problem is exactly. He is great, very experienced with multiples and knows his stuff. As I said before, he is one of the best doctors in the Houston for these kind of problems, with multiples especially. I feel great in his care for the time being. I will follow up with him in two weeks for another high risk ultrasound and at that point can get warm fuzzies or not. The wait is on and all I can do is continue to pray and hope for the best for these precious little girls. Two weeks is the magic number – let’s hope that baby A catches up with Emma and starts growing at a faster rate!

Continued prayers will be much appreciated!

PS - thanks so much to all of you who have been responding to me and giving me encouraging words and support. You will never fully understand how much that means to me, nor will you understand how valuable your opinions are to me. I am so happy to have found this site and have the support and friendships with all you wonderful people. We are truly lucky to have eachother and this site.

Who is your highrisk doctor in Houston, I used to live there and was just wondering?

As far as developmental issues there are lots of babies born before 36 weeks and have no problems at all in the long run, just keep that in mind.

Hi everyone!!!!

Carmen, I will definately be praying for you, from the posts I've been reading, the other twin seems to always catch up with the other, so keep your hopes up. They may be identical but no one really knows exactly how babies grow in the womb, you might just have one lazy baby :) You have all of our support here anytime.

Somedays I can feel these little monsters moving all day, and some days they are lazy like me. I'm just glad I can finally feel something. I haven't been getting up all through the night, which unfortunately means I havent been drinking enough water. I need to get back on the ball. I feel soooo bad today. I was supposed to go to my cousin's daughter's party today, but I just didn't have the strength to get up. Everytime I thought about a whole bunch of little kids running around hyper from cake and ice cream (including my two) I got even more depressed. Now I"m going to have to explain to her why I didnt show up. I was just too tired to even get dressed. I used to spend hours in Walmart just walking the isles, now I have to stop and sit at the bench a couple of times, and 45 minutes in the store completely wears me out. I have to come home and take a nap. Although this is minor compared to a lot of mommies are going through, I still dont have anyone else who can relate to what I am saying except everyone here. I'm am also glad to have this site. I have a couple of friends who are pregnant and all of them have had kids, but none of them know anything about twin pregnancy at all, so they can't relate to me at all. I am as big now almost as my friend who is 7 mos into her pregnancy, and she is starting to annoy me!!! Telling me how small she is how little she weighs..... :woa: Ok, I know I am grumpy, I am very mean this pregnancy, but don't you all hate it when other pregnant women (especially singletons) tell you how much bigger you are than them or how much smaller their stomach's are. Or the topper, it looks like your as big as I was when I had my baby. Ok, I know that I am venting, but I'm tired of hearing " I would give you my maternity clothes but I can tell that they are too small for you?!? Is it a crime for one pregnant person to hit another?!? :rotflmbo:

Ok I'm done with being mean now! lol I hope everyone is having a good day. I'm going lay my butt down and watch some Murder, she wrote. Have a good day all!!!! :grouphugg

:rotflmbo:

Jay, first of all, let me be the first to admit that when my co-worker came into the office on Friday wearing an incredibly cute brand new little spring skirt and sweater outfit -- in a size 2 no less (I used to be a size 2)-- I wanted to hit her. Granted, I've always been a bit envious that she spends more on nice designer stuff than I feel comfortable doing, but hey, I have a right to be jealous now as there'll be no cute summer dresses for me this year...I'm just hoping that the maternity "tents" will still FIT come August!

That being said, I honestly do relish the "wow, you're bigger than I am!" comments from my months-ahead singleton-carrying friends! It means that I'm doing this twin pregnancy thing RIGHT -- I should be bigger, and I AM, and it's a constant reassurance that all is going well and that my two little ones are growing and that I'm succeeding at my "job" of making sure they are born big and healthy at 38 weeks! OK, OK, I know that there isn't a perfect correlation between my size and theirs, but keeping up with those awful impossible weight-gain charts in the Dr. Luke book is the most I can do, so it's really good when someone comments that it looks like I'm "doing" it! I'm really terrified of tiny babies and weeks in the NICU.

Funny story: my husband looked at the charts and has taken on my weight gain as his personal mission, so a couple of weeks ago he took a photo of me and proudly mailed it to his mother under the subject line "My Fat Wife". She and his sister both emailed back, "DON'T EVER CALL YOUR WIFE FAT", and continue to harass him about it, while telling me how lovely I look. I knew from the beginning that I liked that woman...

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

DM, I thought about what you said, and that does make since and it made me feel better. I guess I wasn't thinking of it that way because I know that they didn't mean it in a good way. But who cares what they say or think. So you are right, the most important is that I'm going to bring 2 healthy babies into this world. Thanks for that :dude:

I hope everyone is having a great weekend!!!!

By the way, what is the name of the book you keep talking about? I hear everyone talking about Dr. Luke's book, but what is the name of it?

Dr. Luke's Book is titled - "When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads"

It's a great resource!!!!!

I need some help, advice, recommendations. I'm pregnant with twins
(20 weeks). One twin and I are doing great. Twin B is low on
amniotic fluid and we're not certain why (yet). The best case
scenario is a small tear that self heals. In the meanwhile, I'm on
hospital bed rest and hoping to be sent home (someday!). Two year
old Ellie will continue to go to day care. But ...

What do I do about my family's dinner? There's only so much take-out we can do. I've got a housekeeper every 2 weeks but not sure that'll be enough, especially with me on bedrest (hospital or home). Any suggestions on how to clean home and to feed youself and the family while on bedrest for an extended period of time is welcome.

So, back to my condition: It's probably not a twin-twin transfusion (fraternal, and no evidence on ultrasound). It's probably not a placenta issue since Maggie (twin B) is measuring fine (weight, etc). It'a probably a tear and slow leak. But we don't have conclusive diagnosis because here's no evidence of amniotic fluid in the viginia. Alas ... week 16 was fine. Week 20's level II has changed everything.

Maggie (and the family) appreciate all positive thoughts/vibes.:throb: :xfingers:

Thanks ladies, Julie

I reread your post. We don't share a placenta, so our outcome could be bad but not necessarily doubly-so. (sp?) I hope only the best for you and your family.

I wonder if this is harder on my husband than me. Or, I'm just in shock and denial.

Wish me luck on my post bed rest/IV ultrasound Monday morning. I hope, hope, hope to find more fluid in Maggie tomorrow morning. Or at least, not less.

Ellie + Twins ~ I hope you are getting good news right now! You said you were having another us on Monday morning.

As for dinner when on bed rest, DON"T WORRY ABOUT IT!!!!!! Make your dh a shoping list and make sure lots of frozen/micro things are on there. I am sure he can figure it out. As for take-out, that's fine too, Ellie is 2 right, my 3 year old would eat cheeseburgers or mac & cheese every night if I let her. The Easy Mac will be great for DH to make for her, simple one bowl at a time only add water (and some milk). Do you have family there that can help out? We don't so I know that it is hard to ask friends to do alot, but I am sure even your friends/co-workers (your or DH's), or church members would be happy to make some casserols that can be frozen for dh to warm up.

Who cares about the house, if you feel it necessary have your cleaning lady come once a week, but I wouldn't worry about, most important thing is that you do what your doctor says and stay in bed. Hang in there and know that my prayers are with you and your family.

Hello ladies!

Just wanted to thank everyone again for the encouraging words and kindness you all showed to me. THe waiting game is still on - will know more on the 17th when I have the follow up with the specialist.

Lipilou - Thanks for your words. The doctor I am seeing is Dr. Alex Reiter and he is at Women's here in Houston. He deals mostly with multiples, which is very comforting to me and my husband.

Daffodils - thank you also for your kind words.

KKMOTO - thanks to you also for your kind words. Good point about the extra protein and some extra pounds! :) I will have to start taking some more protein in my diet for sure. I was already telling DH the same thing.

Jaymi_2016 - thanks for your support also, much appreciated!

elle + twins - I wish you the best in your situation. Sounds a whole lot like mine except for the different placentas. I will pray for you and hope you will pray for me. Hopefully we will both have great reports after our next appointments.

Thanks again to all of you special people.

Hope everyone is doing well today!

Julie-I really hope you are finding out good news right now. Sending lots of love, good vibes and thoughts you and maggies way.
As for the house I am not on bed rest and mine looks like ''windy city", its only about 4 more months and with a house keeper everyone can live with a little mess. For food does your area have a place like "dinners ready" you send a friend, husband.... one night for like 2 hours and they come home with 14?? meals for the freezer(I have heard it is good but havn't tried it).

Hi everyone!!!

Julie, I don't have any advice for you, but I do wish you the best of luck. I will keep you in my prayers. And I do agree, who cares about the house lol. You and the babies health are most important.

Anyone had any doctor appts? How's everyone doing?

Is anyone feeling movement yet, and how often are you feeling it? I feel them moving a lot one day, and then for two days nothing. (at least I'm not sure with all the gas going on)

I thought about my post the other day with my singleton pregnancy friends, but I forgot about one of them. She is having a scheduled c-section today. We are the opposite, we tease each other about how fat we are etc, etc. We both used to go club hopping together and be real small. She thinks the baby is going to be 8 lbs and up because she is so big, I told her that she is just fat and the baby is 6 lbs. We have a bet going on. That sounds mean in a way, but just have a good friendship. The first 3 months of my pregnancy I had horrible morning sickness, she would call me smacking on he phone with all kinds of foods and telling me how good they are. All i could do is laugh, and hope I didn't puke lol. I'm excited for her, 4 more months and I'll be having the same thing times two! She teases me because this will be her fourth, and I would always ask how she manages 3 kids with one on the way, now she teases me and says I caught up with her in one night. So true!

Well here's to another Tuesday, I hope everyone is enjoying the day so far.

Has anyone felt this, yet?

Dinak1 and Jay--
I'm so envious of both of you! I haven't felt any movement yet, and I'm getting really anxious about it. So is my husband -- he rubs my belly every night and "talks" to the twins, and he's just going to be over the moon when he gets his first kick. I'm a first-time mom, so maybe I'm feeling it and just not recognizing what it is--I've had a lot of rumbly "gas", but then again, my digestion is off and I've had a lot of, well, gas. I asked my OB about it, especially when I should start getting worried about not feeling movement, and he quite unhelpfully answered, "Oh, 7th month".

We're going in for our Level II Ultrasound Wednesday morning. Wish us luck!

DM-
I just felt movement for the first time yesterday at 19 weeks and 4 days. And it was a lot so I was pretty sure. I am a 1st time mom too. Now I haven't felt anything since. So, it will happen. Many of my friends say they felt nothing until 22 weeks so.... Its weird to think they can be in there and we don't feel it. Then you wonder- what other six inch creatures are going undetected somewhere in my body...just kidding.

I am having lots of pain under my ribs. I will do ANYTHING to not cough, sneeze or laugh because the pain is like a cracked rib or an organ exploding. Any one else have this? I know my muscles are stretching big time and stuff is moving, but come on! This seems early for these problems.

Well- happy Wednesday all

DM - I finally felt movement at the end of my 21st week. I am now in the middle of my 22 week and feel them almost on a constant basis. I am a first time mom and did not know what to expect and was starting to panic. Dont worry, you will feel them soon enough. Now it seems that when I am trying to sleep or get comfortable the girls disagree 100%. Good luck with the level II. Keep us posted and let us know when you find out what the twins are!

Thistle – I am having major pain in my mid back the past week or two. I am just almost miserable at times – cant sleep at all and sit in a cubicle all day which I am sure does not help. I asked the doctor about it and he said that was part of the process. If you think about it, all our insides are all shifted around and everything is stretching so we are bound to feel some effects from it. I have been getting prenatal massages, you should do that if you can afford to. I also use these therma care heat wraps from the drug store which are truly a godsend to me. You should get one of those and try them. I have felt some relief from them while I sit here in my cubicle all day.

Happy Wednesday to everyone! Hope you all have a good day. DM – be sure and let us know what you found out today.

Hi Everybody!

I hope you are all doing well and babies too! Yay I'm 20 weeks now! Is anyone else so sick of their two pairs of pants that fit? I can't wait for it to be warm enough to wear some skirts- I have lots from my regular sized life that will fit well under my belly. Of course once it's warm enough it will soon be TOO HOT out! Also has anyone had an experience like this yet- Me and DH were cracking up laughing so hard at something I almost, almost lost control of my bladder! It was a very close call! Now I'm doing more Kegels and trying not to laugh so hard- at least in public:rotflmbo:

Hi everyone!

I finally felt some movement last night, so it seems like every two days. Daffodils, let us know how the doctor appt went!! Thistle, one thing I've noticed about this pregnancy is that everything seems to start earlier than usual. lol That was how I kinda knew somehow this pregnancy was different. Wendy, I have experienced that too many times, I try to empty my bladder as frequently as possible, because my sister would constantly try to make me laugh on purpose. I am in TX so, it is HOT already!!! But I'm not for skirts or shorts with my legs and thighs all gross looking right now lol. But I am getting tired of the 2 pairs of capri's though lol.

I am so anxious about my 20 wk appt on the 17th. I'm starting to worry about not having a perinatologist and all. Everyone is telling me I should be glad I don't go to one and that this pregnancy is like every other pregnancy. But I decided to buy and read Dr. Luke's book, and it says otherwise. Now I know that is just the opinion of one book, but I feel like every two weeks would be better just to make sure. That Tamara lady in that book scared me to death. A whole month between dr appts makes you think anything can happen. I need to stop worrying and just thank God and pray that everything will be fine. Women out there and on this board are going a lot right now, I feel I should just stop with all the worrying and I should be grateful just for my health. Anyone else have just a regular doctor? What do you all think about the peri and all?

Everything is fine otherwise, the groin pain has settled down for now, my back pain is minimal, although I don't hardly do anything. Fatigue is still there, but not a big deal. So I have a lot of things to be thankful for. My daughter is 3 and I am STILL trying to potty train her!! I feel like a bad mom sometimes, but I remember that she got her stubborness from me. Anyone with kids already have any pointers? I want her out of these pampers before the twins get here. Well I have rambled on enough. I hope everyone is having a great day today!

I go for my doctor's appointment in a couple of hours. They just weigh me and listen to the heartbeats. As for the bladder issues, you can't take me anywhere for over an hour and a half. I sneezed and it was time to go... Time to double up on those kegels.

Jaymi, I do not have a perintologist either. Is that like a second doctor or something? What do they do differently than the OB? I am only going to the doctor once a month right now (I will be twenty weeks friday) and haven't had an u/s since my 8wk one. I'm not too worried, they listen to the heartbeats every appt. and I feel them moving.

Pottytraining: I just acted really excited about the big girl panties and sat my little girt on the potty every two hours or so just in case she had to go. You can also try stickers, starts etc.

As for keeping the household running, I have taught my little one to make her own pb&j sandwiches, get her cheese sticks out of the fridge and her granola bars off a low shelf. (She has been eating a lot of pb&j, cheese and granola bars) ;) I have been "cooking" the healthy kind of frozen pizzas and using a lot of frozen vegetables and ravioli, beans and rice. Things that are still healthy, but not too complicated. Baja Fresh (Mexican Grill) is giving away free burritos today and I am so excited!!! (Their burritos are the whole meal.) So, I don't have to worry about dinner tonight, yea!

Pre-natal yoga really helps!!! I did it with my first and I truly believe it helped me stay healthy and get through labor the way I wanted to.

Hi ladies,

It's been a while since I've posted, but it sounds like everyone's moving right along. I'm glad that we're all feeling our babies moving around. Today, twin B, had the hiccups. It's just so reassuring to know that they're ok, and really, even though I have two older children, the way these twins are moving amazes me still. It's such a gift.

As for the perinatologist, I am seeing one in addition to my OB, but I am 38 years old also with hypothyroid. I believe that most of the OB's in this area send their high risk patients to these specialists due to malpractice issues. If there's a specialist involved in the care, the regular OB is less likely to be sued. I'm sure it's really beneficial also to monitor the babies more frequently, but I do know some girls who have just had their OBs.

I live in Florida and have been wearing skirts (knee-length) for a while. Pants are really to hot and uncomfortable. Old Navy had some really cute cotton skirts that are long enough to cover the thighs but really, really soft and stretchy. They're as comfortable as pjs, so that is my style of choice at the moment.

Anyone else having issues with hemorroids? I know that's really TMI, but I've never had them, and I'm miserable. I guess the weight of 2 babies really makes that difference.

I'm praying that all of our babies are born healthy and that we make it to at least 35 weeks. So, nothing strenuous and drink lots of water girls!!!

It's great to read all of your posts. It's just comforting to know that we're all going through many of the same issues.
Have a great night.

Julie-I hope you are doing ok, I have been really worried about you, I check this thread often seeing if you have checked in. Wishing you the best.

I have been feeling little movements for about 2 weeks, I think it is normal to feel a little earlier if you have been prego before. It is getting more regular now, and I can tell who is moving. I still can't feel them from the outside though.

I had a bad cold a few weeks ago and every time I coughed I had to sit down or I would tinkle a little:(

Jay-Potty training, my 3 year old learned from her sister(who took forever), I am never above bribing AKA rewarding. good luck. I am only seeing an OB, It makes me a little nervous though.

I am 19 weeks today-:yippee: I look forward to every wednesday it's like a milestone, and up 12 pounds:clap: Less than a week until our 1st level 2

Anyone feel enourmous?? I am bigger than I was when I gave birth to my first. I hear everyone on the clothe thing, I wear my jammies at home and one pair of shrinking jeans out.

Have a good one!!

We got our ultrasound results this morning, and everything was perfect. Yeah! The peri said he couldn't find anything that was even remotely "off" (AND he told us we had very photogenic kids! :) ) Based on this, plus the fact that we were screen-negative in the AFP and the NT results gave us 1/4251 chance of Down's (that's less than the age-related risk for an 18-year-old), we decided NOT to do the amnio. It's such a relief--I had been scared to death of the miscarriage risk.

We decided not to learn the sexes, so now we're REALLY looking forward to the day they'll be born! They are diamnionic/dichorionic though, so it could be any combination.

Thistle-- I too have had a whole menu of weird awful sharp pains for the last 8 weeks or so, and they seem to come and go. Every 2 weeks or so it's in a different place or there's a different trigger. My OB doesn't seem to worried about it.

Carmen-- About the back pain, my friend who is at 34 weeks with a singleton has been using one of those big exercise balls as a desk chair for the last 6 weeks. She started using it at the advice of her physical therapist when she ruptured a spinal disk 8 years ago, and she claims it works wonders for baby back pains. As a bonus, her yoga teacher claims that it tilts the pelvis a bit forward which increases the liklihood that the baby will be head down. I'm not sure about the last bit, but I've tried mimicking it by sitting with my butt on the edge of my desk chair with my feet firmly planted, and it seems to be helping my back problems so I'm thinking of investing in one. Sure, it'll look silly at work, but as my DH said when I got out of the shower yesterday morning, "Wow, you look ridiculous!" anyways, so what's a funny chair after that?

Jay-- I don't think you need to worry about not having a perinatologist. That's just a fancy OB who only sees super-high-risk cases. For the most part, if your only "risk factors" are a) fraternal twins and b)"advanced maternal age" (over 35, under 40), then you're not *really* high-risk, at least, not high-risk like the patients they normally see: pregnant after multiple miscarriages, pregnant with identical twins, known other risks or conditions like abnormalities in fetal growth, or maternal complications like pre-eclampsia, etc. If you have no other complications, some peris won't even see you as you're not worth their time (or so the intake nurse at the OB clinic warned me).

And I wouldn't worry about the Luke book: I took it to simply mean that your OB should be aware that twins can be different and act accordingly. For example, my doc is just a regular OB who happens to see a lot of twins (I got his name off the Parent's of Multiples group for our area), and he's treating me like a normal pregnant woman (yes, once-a-month appointments) for now, except that starting in a couple of weeks he's going to monitor me agressively for any sign of early labor: he does a vaginal U/S every visit to measure any changes in the shape of the cervix, and he starts doing cervical swabs for FFN protein about 2 months earlier with twin moms than with singleton moms, and he's more agressive about urging early maternal weight gain on twin moms. The perinatologists I've seen at our local large univeristy hospital (where I got sent for the NT and the Level II U/S) all know and speak well of him, so I'm feeling pretty good about this relatively laid-back approach.

Sorry for the long post. Hope everyone is well.

And one more thing: about the skirts--are you guys kidding?? I can barely reach my feet to get socks and shoes on. By the time it's warm enough to wear skirts there'll be NO WAY I'll be able to reach with a razor to shave my legs (and I'm not sure I'd want to try! :) )!! The swollen ankles I can deal with in public, but not the fuzz...not the fuzz...

Hi everyone, Just got back from my appt. Heartbeats sounded good and doc said the babies were very active. Heartbeats were 160 & 170. I gained 7 pounds since my last visit which was a month ago. She wants to see me back in another month and my u/s is scheduled for April 17. She measured my cervix and she said it was textbook at 24 centimeters? I think that's what it was... I didn't even know they measured for twins... Anyways, It was nice to hear their heartbeats and I am really looking forward to my sono on the 17th!

HAPPY THURSDAY! Friday is almost here, I can't wait I am just burned out!

Thistle~ urrrgh the pains, not so much in my ribs this week but last week they did hurt. It is my back now. It hurts so bad at night that I can't sleep very well, so that just makes me more tired. By about 4:30 am I am awake for good b/c my back is hurting. I brought a heating pad to work today, but haven't plugged it in yet. That is ok to use right?

Jay~ I go to my regular ob and then someone else I guess a peri for my ultrasounds, but I think that is more because my regular ob doesn't have a very good ultrasound machine in her office. It is ok, but not like the peri's machine. She has me going to see her every two weeks which is getting to be a big pain b/c I have to take a 1/2 day off of work to go. I need all my days for maternity leave.
As for the potty training we bribed I will admit it. Skittles is what we used. We don't give our daughter candy very often so that was a big treat for her. One skittle when she peed on the potty. She had that down around when she turned 3 (right before Christmas) and for number 2, we just recently got that down. For some reason she was scared to poop on the potty, I just left it alone and didn't fight it. Finally we took her to Target and let her pick out some Barbie she wanted and told her she could have it when she pooped two times in the potty. That sat on the counter for about 4 weeks and she would look at the box and ask to hold the box for a minute about 3/4 times a week. Then one day she just pooped on the potty by herself and did it again about an hour later. That was it, now she goes when she needs to. It wasn't a hard thing for us but she was potty trained a lot later than other kids I know, she was 3 and I know kids that are trained by 2. But I believe in the "they are ready when they are ready" I started stressing over it and then just said forget it and it worked itself out. Hang in there she will go when she is ready.

Hi everybody!

Thanks to everyone for the tips. We got some stickers and some candy/prizes and she's doing pretty good. It's the number 2 I'm having issues with now. I'm not sure if she doesnt know how to do it sitting down, because she's usually standing up. I also bought her some pull ups and some panties that I let her pick. I wasn't using pullups before because she can't seem to get them off and on as easily as her pampers but she's excited.

Thanks to everyone's input about the perinatologist also. I feel much better about not having one, and it seems like it's a good thing as of now.

Congrats to everyone with their doctors appt! And great news too! I'm excited and can't wait until I go.

Kkmoto- as far as feeling enormous, I LOOK enormous! lol So I know that I am, but I'm proud of it. It's just simply amazing to see myself getting so big so fast.

I was looking at another thread and they got me to thinking. I was told that just because babies aren't in the same sack doesnt mean that they aren't identical. All this time I thought that it mean they were definately fraternal. That was the first thing I asked my doctor when she told me there were two. So unless I'm having a boy and a girl, from my understanding I won't know for sure until they are born. WEIRD. I also read that the olsen twins are fraternal. I find that almost impossible to believe. Fraternal twins aren't any more similar than regular siblings, and although I have seen siblings that look alike, I have NEVER seen any that look identical. That's weird too.

labmom- There was a time where they said not to use electric blankets or heating pads, but things change. I'm not sure if they are safe or not, but I would assume as long as it's not directly on your stomach?!?!? You might have to ask the doctor to be sure.

I've been having sharp pains too, but I've been chalking it up to gas or something. I got dizzy and nauseaus in Walmart today and had to hurry and get out of there. The headache I got made me realize at 1 pm I hadn't eaten anything. What is wrong with me?!?! Forgetting to eat and forcing food is so weird! I swear I gained a lot of weight with my other two but since they were 7.9 and 7.13 I would say the other 40 or so pounds were from food! lol I have been gaining weight though.

Well I've talked enough.. why are my posts always so darn long? :rotflmbo: I hope everyone had a great Thursday!

Ladies,
Thanks for your well wishes. Unfortunately, the u/s on Monday seemed to show even less fluid than the Friday u/s. :( But the good news is that the massive IV didn't seem to help, so they are sending me home for bed rest. Good thing since I'd like to be home with 2 year old Ellie and husband, even if I'm a blob on the couch, dining table and bed.

Here's the story: during my routine 20 week ultrasound, we discovered that Tommy (twin A) is a great size in a great environment. However, Maggie (twin B) is a very good size but in a terrible environment -- very low amniotic fluid. It matters most importantly because she need to breath in the fluid to develop her lungs. Without it, she's not viable outside the womb. I was in the hospital for several days to figure out why we have the problem as well as try some general remedies. It didn't work, so I'm now at home on bed rest -- I can only get up to shower once a day and go to the toilet, practically. The numbers are not good for Maggie, so hope for a miracle.

And unfortunately I'm in a nebulous time in my pregnancy. If there is a demise, we're putting Tommy in jeopardy because my body may decide to abort the dead fetus instead of just absorbing it (normal at earlier stages of pregnancy). Being born at 20 weeks would be VERY bad for Tommy. Pre-term labor is defined at 32 weeks.

We're not quite sure what the problem is. And even if we did, there are very few remedies. a) It's probably not a twin-twin transfusion syndrome since it's rare in fraternal twin. Additionally, the ultrasound and Doppler shows no evidence of cord fusion. (Basically, this is when the placenta or umbilical cords fuse together and Tommy takes more than his fair share. men. ;-) b) The placenta should not be a problem because Maggie's a decent size. She's smaller than Tommy but well within the range of normal. c) The production of amniotic fluid (ie, the baby's urine) is probably ok, since her bladder and kidneys appear fine on the ultrasound. d) There's probably a small tear in her sack. However, we can't find hard evidence of amniotic fluid at the only exit it's got (think "my water broke.") So, we're not certain about the cause. And even then, there's no medicine or surgery that can be done to fix it. I guess bed-rest is to pregnancy complications as chicken soup is to common colds.

So, despite my feeling great (went for a swim the night before my 20 wk
u/s) we have to hope that staying horizontal and calm will hold fluid in
Maggie's sack, at least long enough for them to reach a "safe" time to be
delivered. Otherwise, we have to hope that she gets absorbed by my body
leaving Tommy to continue to grow. Depending on which of the multiple
outcomes happens, I may be back up in about 4-6 weeks or maybe on bed-rest until they are born in July/August. As much as I don't want to be
horizontal (or quite for that matter!) for 4 months, let's hope for the
later!

One of the women in the local MOMs group (Mothers of Multiples) suggested the super-duper Perinatalogist in my neighborhood. I'm going for a second opinion, just in case. Not sure what he can do, but I'm going to do whatever is in my power to save these kiddies!

Please send positive thoughts for our Miracle Maggie, and Tommy too!
Julie

PS. Waxing legs and 2nd trimester clothing. During my first pregnancy, I wore skirts all summer b/c it's much cooler and easier (1 giant hole instead of 2 smaller pant legs to navigate on a less than balanced body). 2 issues: 1) waxing stings more than usual and 2) when I was on your way back down (ie lossing weight after the birth), I didn't have any appropriate clothes. B/c Ellie was born in November, I needed by 2nd trimester clothes in the middle of winter. My second trimester clothes were cotton skirts and dresses. So, I had to go out and get some roomy pants for the mush what was my waistline for about 4 months. (9 months on, and 9 mths off. weight, that is.) And if you live in a part of the US that has 4 seasons -- plan accordingly. Just an FYI for those of you that are first timers. Although, thinking about it ... this group will have 2nd trimester and baby in Spring and Fall. Not a bad combo.

PPS, thinking about you Carmen. Stay rested and hopeful (but informed).

BTW, I love the name Carmen ... and the feisty, uppity character in the opera. Maggie is named for Margaret Mead (anthropologist), Margaret Sanger (planned parent hood founder) and Margaret Mitchell (author of Scarlett O'Hara in Gone with the Wind). Ellie is named for Eleanor Roosevelt (founder of the UN, practically, as well as First Lady).

Julie--
I'm thinking only positive outcomes for you and Tommy and Maggie. I went to my pregnancy support group last night (we're an odd bunch of miscarriage and infertility "survivors"), and one of the things that always strikes me when talking with these women is just how often "miracles" CAN AND DO HAPPEN. I'm going to believe that the three of you will get through this just fine (even your sanity if you ARE on bed rest of 4 months!).

Hi everyone!

Julie, I will definately keep you in my prayers, keep your head up, and everything will be alright for Tommy and Maggie.

How was everyone's Friday? Mine was uneventful. I just sat around the house all day, and I plan on doing that the entire weekend. Maybe that will make the days go by faster. I can't wait to hit that 20 wk mark! For once I have a short post! lol I'll check back later!!!

I have spent the last few hours reading all of the posts... trying to get to know you all a bit before I jump in... prayers to all who are in challenging situations tonight.

I wish I had found you all sooner... I am currently 21 weeks and 6 days... Things are going great now, and I barely remember how incredibly sick I was for the first three months (UGH!), and the two weeks of back cramps when I swore everyday that I was losing my baby (who knew... babies?) It is incredibly encouraging reading all of your posts, and to know that you all truly understand how it feels to have two lives inside of you that you are responsible for caring and nourishing... but not hungry right now... feel full after a few bites... my singleton friends think I have lost my mind, because I am eating for three!!! I must say that you all drove me to eat an ice cream sundae tonight after dinner reading all of the posts about Blizzards - our Dairy Queen closed!!! Can you believe it... just when I need her the most!

Anyway, I feel so lucky to be here among friends, and sharing this experience... I look forward to getting to know you all better.

My next appointment with the specialist is Tuesday - I CANNOT WAIT TO SEE THE GIRLS AGAIN!!!

Welcome to Alecia and Alex&LeAnnesMom-It's alway great to have more:) -

Alex&LeAnnesMom-Just FYI I had a Rocky Road shake today. YUM

Some lady who lives in Washington gave birth(c-section)to 5 babies last week:crazy: she was on hosp bed rest starting at 20 weeks and made it to 31weeks and 1 day. Amazing-all are doing well.

Welcome to all the new twin moms who just found this board. I am so greatful to have all of you to lean on for support, because I do not know anyone moms who have twins. I am keeping all the littles ones in prayer. I pray that we all stay healthy and bring these blessings to full term.

Thursday was my weekly appointment at the Twins Clinic. Turns out, my blood pressure had sky rocketted to 150/90. I had a heachache that wouldn't go away and I was having some blured vision. The MFS was very concerned - add to that my weight had also shot up 6.5 pounds in one week... she was thinking preeclampsia. So, I ended up in labor and delivery for 3 hours while they tried to get my headache under control and do urine protein and bloodwork. Everything came back normal, and my blood pressure returned to normal after some rest. But, I have to do a 24 hour urine test tomorrow, so I can have the results when I go in for my ultrasound/growth scan on Tuesday. Please pray that I do not have preeclampsia. The doc really scared me and my DH by saying that if I do have it, they may have to take the babies --- I'm only 22 weeks!!!! So... I'm taking it one day at a time. I have not had anymore headaches, and my blood pressure has been fine ever since (we bought a home blood pressure monitor). So, these are all great signs.

I can't wait to see the babies on Tuesday!!

Hope everyone is doing okay, and drinking lots of H2O! :spitwater

KKMoto - FIVE babies... and I worry about eating enough and caring for my girls... everytime you hear amazing stories like that one, it gives hope.

Abbie - scary experience... hopefully well behind you now! Let us know how Tuesday goes.... I get to see the girls the same day, like you, I cannot wait!!

Trpychik1 - new here too... have learned a lot from these ladies already... hope all is well with your pregnancy so far.

Today was good, did a little shopping... that is usually uneventful for me... I never find anything that fits. I am in the predicament of being a 14 when I started down this road... so in my fifth month, NOTHING fits! Skirts are becoming my savior... but did manage to find shorts today... thank goodness... it is already getting pretty warm here in North Florida.

Happy Sunday to you all... hope you have a good week, I will check back in on Tuesday... I am still working full-time and taking two classes Mondays and Wednesdays... thank goodness the semester ends April 24th!!!

Abbie- I hope your blood pressure was just a fluke, good luck with the urine test. That sounds like a pain.

Carmen and Julie- Hope you two and your little noodles are all hanging in there, growing like weeds.

J- wow work and school

Jay-How is potty training going??

We have our ultrasound tomorrow afternoon, I hope they show us there stuff. (1st level 2). I was ultrasounding at the vet clinic that I was working for(now only shopping for) when one of the drs got so exited she took the prob and was checking them out. It was cool, she is so much better although she was not looking at a cat or dog and it was not the typical :throb: or tumor. If my vet is correct :rotflmbo: there is a girl and boy, we will see.

Hope all is well, it is so quiet here on the weekend:(

Julie, I have been thinking about you for days, (I don't get on the computer much on the weekends). I am sorry to hear that Maggie's fluid is still low. If it is a tear in the sac then I guess bed rest would make sense, the less you move the less the fluid can leak out. I will continue to pray for you all.

abbie
04-10-2006, 10:33 AM
Julie - we are all keeping you and Maggie in our prayers. We pray that the leak quickly seals (if it is a leak) and that her fluid level returns to normal.

Diane - can't wait to hear about your level II U/S. That was the best part of this pregnancy so far - they do so many detailed measurements, and you really get a chance to study their profiles and shapes for the first time. I'm rooting for another set of B/G - then you can join our team :)

J - clothing shopping, especially maternity is so not fun anymore... I absolutely agree! I've had some success at Old Navy and Sears actually. But, I've been very tempted lately to try out the plus size departments and look for some oversized shirts with ties in the back. I haven't outgrown what I have yet, but it might be something you could give a try :)

QUESTION: Why is it that my pee is still yellow all day even though I drink 5-6 Liters of water a day??? Any thoughts???

We're turning in the 24 hour urine test today, and we will get the results tomorrow at my monthly ultrasound. Please pray there is no protein - no preeclampsia!!

Hello everyone!

Welcome to all the newbies and congrats! How is everyone, and how were your weekends?

Kkmoto- she's doing good with the number one, it's the number two I can't get her to do. But hopefully she'll do it eventually. If I could catch her in the act, I can just put her on the potty. But she's a sneaky little rascal. Good luck on your ultrasound!!!:yippee:

J- I shop in the plus size clothing, I'm not shy about saying Walmart is my favorite store. There are alot of capris with elastic around the waist and shirts that have been saving me stress. I also don't buy anything exact, I buy it rather big, because I have so much longer to go. Plus sized maternity clothes are just too pricey for me, I'd rather pay 15.00 rather than 50.00 for some capris anyday especially since this is my last pregnancy. And I dont plan on fitting any of these clothes afterwards! lol

Abbie, good luck with your 24 hr urine. Did you just hate doing that? lol I done it at 13 wks, I think my husband wanted to puke everytime he opened the fridge lol.

My next appt is April 17th, it seems like forever from now, I can't wait. I should have my ultrasound either that day or soon after. I'm rooting for boy/girl, I already have one of each, but two of each would just seal the deal.

Anyone has been being constantly asked to tie their tubes or if you are going to? I know 4 kids is alot, but I just don't want to tie my tubes, it's my body. Pills, patch, all that stuff makes me too sick. I also don't want to get pregnant again either lol. Anyone have any (nice) comebacks for that question? I want to tell them all to shove it, but that wouldn't be too nice! lol Anyone getting their tubes tied?

Well I better get off of this computer, better go watch some Murder, she wrote. I think if I have a daughter she is going to look like Jessica Fletcher, or either one of the Golden Girls! lol My daughter knows them all by name. (pitiful) :rotflmbo: Everyone have a great day!

Hi everyone, I have been reading the posts that you have all been writing I just have not posted in about a week. I have been praying for everyone that seems to be having some difficulties. I know in my heart that we all will be just fine and our babies will be healthy.

Welcome to all the new mommies that have joined.

I went for another 2 week check up today and Alexander is still measuring 8 days behind in growth from Anna. Even though he is still behind it is actually good to see that the gap is still not widening. He actually gained 3 oz. in 2 weeks and grew a normal amount for a 2 week period. Today my DH actually did not go with me to this visit (the first one he has missed) so that my mom could go with me to see her grandchildren for the first time. She was out of control excited today. We got a really good chuckle while the tech was doing my scan though. She was taking a really close look at Alexander's head and all of a sudden these 2 feet come into the picture from no where and started kicking him in the head. His sister Anna was not being very nice to him since he is trying so hard to maintain his growth. :rotflmbo:

Well I guess I better stop rambling and go get my nightly bowl of ice cream. Everyone keep happy thoughts and prayers. I will talk to you all very soon.

Hi everyone,
I've only posted once before (weeks ago) but have been keeping up to date on the posts. I know some of you are going through hard things and my thought and prayers are with you. I check in to see how you are daily. I'm actually addicted to checking in for some reason.

I just had my regular ob appt today--pretty sure I'm at 20 weeks. Thursday I go to the high risk place and that's were I get the ultrasounds every 4 weeks. I'm excited to see the babies. I'm not sure if I posted when we found out the sexes but they are girls (identical). We already have two girls (5 and 2). My ob said I was measuring 27 weeks and that it was normal. It seems big to me but I'm not the doctor.

Hoping you are all having a nice evening.

It is good to hear all about the the ultrasounds and all the progress everyone is making. We all just need to keep taking one day at a time. I think I need to slow down a little. I started having very sharp pains along the right side of my belly and my lower back sometimes hurts so bad when I try to walk at night. I think the side/belly pains are called "round ligament" I must be the last one going in for my level II! I go on Monday. I need to remember to ask if they are identical or fraternal. I know there are two sacs, but I don't think that means automatically fraternal, but more likely? How long does the Level II actually take, my other u/s only took about 15 or 20 minutes max. Is it a lot longer than that. I just want to be prepared..

Everyone keep up the good work ;)

Diane, Congratulations on having 2 girls!!! I am so excited for you.

bateacher, I know the ultrasounds I get every two weeks at my Peri take a minimum of 1 hour. I have actually had a couple that have lasted longer than that also but they are really watching me closely because of Alexander's lag in growth from Anna. Good Luck with your appointment!!

Hi Everybody!

Hope you and the babies are all doing well. I'm really dragging at work today. I'm having a hard time keeping up with full days now (11 hours with commute!!!) and on top of the work, I have to help in the hiring and training of my replacement! Oh well only 6 more weeks of work left! I almost wish my OB or Peri would ask me to quit earlier but so far they say I'm looking great, so no need for that. Are you gals all still working full schedules? When do you plan to quit? I'm leaving work at 28 weeks (knock on wood!) Wish me luck with the rest of the week...

Urrrgh, I had an appt. with my doctor yesterday and after sitting in the room for 2 hours was told she was trying to get in my room but had to leave for an emergency c-section. That makes me angry but at the same time, it could have been me and I am glad she drops appointments when an emergency comes up. But still I had to take off work and put people out at work to make it to my appt. I guess that is what makes me upset. At least I had my book and actually got some good reading time in. So nurse pract. did my appt. she checked my cervix and it is closed tight, so that is good. That is about it, listened to the heartbeats, but that was all!

Bateacher~as far as how long the level II takes, mine was about an hour and 1/2. Baby b kept moving into weird positions and they had a hard time getting the measurements. They also measured my cervix at this time.

Wendy~ I am still working full-time, I am a teacher so I am praying I make it till the end of May, which will put me at 27 weeks. I don't want to have to use anymore of my sick days, I have to use them to go to the doctor now and want as many as possible for next year as I will be going back to work.

An hour to an hour and a half for ultrasounds?! My goodness, I thought we weren't suppossed to be laying on our backs for that long?

Wendy: Just hang in there and take it day by day. I am working full-time also. I have a three year-old at home too. My communte is not bad since I purposefully moved very close to work. Maybe you could carpool with someone or just take a day off here or there. I took off Monday because I felt very tired and was having some pains. I am glad I did because it makes the week go by faster. I will be working until the last week of May (I am a teacher.) My last day will be the day before I turn 27 weeks. None of my students think I will make it that far, but I plan on proving them wrong :)

I can relate to the appointment waiting becoming somewhat of a pain... although you do understand it is important. My very first appointment with my OB I had to wait two hours... and was at that time suffering with morning sickness really bad... forgot to bring a drink or a snack, so by the time they got me in my blood pressure was something like 145 over something else bad... so then I get a lecture on how I have to watch my blood pressure... I almost came unglued! In my case, they were swamped with the number of "snuggle weather babies" they had... I guess those concieved while the weather is cold and we have nothing better to do but snuggle! Haven't had that happen again thank goodness!

Well, my appointment with the specialist was great yesterday, thank goodness! I am 22 weeks and 2 days... baby A is 1 pound 1 ounce and baby B is 1 pound 2 ounces... they were measuring three days apart before, but now they are both 22w and 2d. Cervix is still the same, thicker than average he says... so until I have these girls that is good news.

It was fun to watch them moving around on the screen. The tech said this is the best visit because now they look like babies and you can identify everything, but the next appointment they will be too big to get all of them on the screen and they will go back to where only the trained eye will be able to figure it out. Baby A is still on the bottom, she was breech yesterday, and Baby B is on top of her, at first breech, then she moved to transverse while I was there. The tech says that Baby A will be "no worse for wear" being on the bottom the whole time. It did make it a bit tougher for her to measure everything on the bottom baby with the top one's butt interfering with the measurement of her head... kinda funny. This was Level A, and took about an hour by the time they did all of the measurements, the colorization stuff to check the heart and all... good visit... and thank goodness I don't have to go back for 6 weeks... Don't get me wrong, I love seeing them on the screen, but I figure as long as he is keeping me on this 6 week visit, things are going well...

Okay, so I have gone on and on.... excited I guess. Hope everyone else is well this morning.

I forgot to add on the posts about working...

Well, I am a police lieutenant, thank goodness that at this point in my career I am no longer wearing uniforms (not that I could), I work in Public Education and Training... so I am mostly a desk jockey. I plan on working until I absolutely cannot work anymore. My next appointment will be at 28 weeks, so I guess he will be the one to make the decision on whether I can still work. Fortunately, I take my final exams on April 24 and 26th for the two night classes I am taking... that will be a huge relief! No, I didn't know I was pregnant when I registered... much less that I was having twins!!! It is tough... but I am almost finished!!!

Of course, that may be moved back. To be honest, I am hoping it gets moved back to June! (LOL!) My back is already starting to ache and I am only about 20 weeks along. Work-Alison if you are able to make it working until what ~35weeks you will be my personal hero-wow;). I stoped working at 5 weeks(unless you count shoping and occationaly helping with the blood bank at work. The morning(all day) sickness was to much for me.. As most of you know I work in an ER and critical care vet hosp and we get the sickest of the sick and the smelliest of the smelly there. I was spending more time in the bathroom than with the patients. My husband is great though, he is a cop and can get as much overtime as he wants/needs, so all I do is take care of my girls.

Hello ladies!

I have been sick as a dog with a stomach bug the past two days but am feeling better now. Glad to be back at work and doing something productive.

Ellie+Twins - I am praying for you and your little ones. I will keep you in my thoughts constantly! Keep the faith and good attitude and all will be fine. I am telling myself the same on a daily basis.

Abbie - good luck to you on the testing. We will hope for the best for you!

Diane - thanks for the kind words, you are a sweetheart. Congratulations on the girls also! :yippee:

Lori - hope Alex catches up with the other baby. I am in a similar situation with one growing faster than the other except I am expecting ideticals which has been really scary for us. I go back to the high risk OB on the 17th and will see if the growth is any better. Good luck to you, I feel your pain.

Wendy - I am working full time also. Over 11 hours with commute. I am starting to feel very cumbersome and pregnant. My back hurts constantly and I am just feeling like bed rest is not such a bad idea after all. My doctor had said that at 28 weeks I would be on bed rest .... that is 5 weeks and counting. I was against it at first but am slowly starting to realize there may be good reason for that after all! We shall see. Keep up the good work and keep on keeping on, that is all we can do when we work full time.

Welcome new mommies! It is great to see more people on the board now a days.

Have a good Wednesday everyone!

Hi everyone!

Just a brief update... I've got to get ready for work :)

My 24 hour urine test result came back with protein level of 209... I wasn't able to speak to the doctor, but apparently you aren't considered preeclamptic until the level reaches 300... so great news! My blood pressures have been normal and I"m feeling well besides frequent headaches and some back pain.

My ultrasound yesterday went great. Both babies are measuring at 1 lb 6 oz (51st percentile), and looking good. Joshua's kidneys are still a little large, but no bigger than the last appt.

Keep up the good work everyone :)

Hi everyone!

Sounds like everyone is doing well. I'm almost the only one that doesnt work around here! lol All of you make me tired just thinking about it. I wish all of you luck with working as long as you want to. I couldnt imagine working, I'm so tired all the time, I barely get up to go to the bathroom or fix me something to eat. Besides my 3yr old being so energetic, she's really no problem. I've ran out of things to read and watch on TV, I couldn't imagine being on bedrest, I just lay around now, but I'm starting to get lonely and bored. I wish I felt the babies move a little more, every couple of days bothers me. But I've been counting down the days until my Dr appt Monday. I'm anxious to hear the heartbeats and for them to tell me when my ultrasound is. Is anyone else just plain mean?!? I am sooo mean, I think my babies are gonna come out beating up the doctors?!? I'm just grouchy and mean, and I don't like to share any of my food with anyone lol. I hate it when I go into the refrigerator looking for something and someone else has eaten it. I get soooo mad!

My due date is Sept 4th also, but I will be having a scheduled C-section in August, so I don't really count Sept. that much. I checked in with some of the mommies due in July to ask them questions about what to expect later, they didn't scare me too bad :) It's the May and June mommies that scare me!! I read up on their posts sometimes and they sound like they just want to reach in and grab the babies out themselves sometimes. :rotflmbo:

Well anyways I am doing fine, no serious issues with the pregnancy, just acne and grouchiness which I would say is great compared to what others are going through. I miss my dh though, wish he was here to at least be grouchy at! I don't really get to yell at him and say "You did this to me!!" No fun! lol Anyways good luck everyone and keep up the good attitudes! This is the highlight of my day having you ladies to laugh and chat with. :grouphugg

I think I'm a little grouchy myself, and bossy! Poor DH, but I want it done MY WAY and NOW!!! Also I notice that I really expect people to be a little extra special nice to me and if they aren't (usually they aren't) it really bugs me. Like if I am waiting at a restaurant to be seated, I would like someone to get up and offer me a seat you know? Or if I am walking down the sidewalk, please scoot over to let me by- I know you can see this big belly folks! I did have a bum almost ask me for spare change on the street, then he looked at my belly and said "oh never mind you!" Ha ha.

Hi everyone,
I too am working full time at my job and plan to work as long as possible since we rely on my income to pay for everything. We also own a Big Apple Bagels Cafe that my husband and my mother run daily. I do all the accounting and bookkeeping for the business so when I get out of work I do stuff for the business but I have been slacking on that lately because I am so tired by the end of my 8 hour days at work I just come home and became a couch potato. So most of my accounting work has been getting done on Saturdays when I work at the business. So if my OB or my Peri decide to put me off work early that will really throw a curve ball into our life right now but I guess we will just deal with it. I will have to teach my DH how to do some of the accounting and that scares the pants off of me..... I am kinda a control freak when it comes to my bookwork. :order:

I am glad to hear that I am not the only one who can not find a comfortable position at night. I can't imagine how it will be later on if it is this bad now.

Well since I am just getting home from work I am going to go get some dinner and veg on the couch. Hope you all have a good night and a good day tomorrow.

Talk to you all tomorrow.

Abbie--Great news that there's no preeclampisa worry!

It's so reassuring to hear that everyone else gets tired easily too! I'm hoping to keep working at least part time up until my due date because I'm afraid that if I'm home I'll just sit around and find things to worry about. A twin pregnancy is not the best for hypochondriacs.... At the moment though, I just feel bad because I KNOW I'm not giving 100% at work...or even a full 50%....

Is anyone else having achy skin across their belly? I moisturize twice a day, and there's no sign of stretch marks yet, but sometime I feel like I'm going to just split it aches so bad.

Julie-We havn't heard from you in awhile-unless I missed it, I hope everything is going good. Would love to hear how Maggie and Tommy are. Sending good thoughts your way.

Jay-YES I am grouchy, I am usually so mellow, not now. I hope to be back to normal someday!! I am also glad to see I am not the only "slacker" ;) in the bunch not working-meaby it has something to do with us both having a 3 year old.

Abbie-Yea on the urine test, now those babes can just sit around and grow.

DM-Hear you on the itchy belly, although my PUPPS rash is gone(for now).

Wendy-Funny about the bum, he most likely had a wife who was pregnant and knows just how groucy we are.

Carmen-Glad you are feeling better, not to much worse than, vomiting or coughing while preg. esp. with twins-its rough on the bladder.

Lipilu-I am a big fan of the couch now too.

Happy thursday

Hi all!

DM- sorry don't really have that problem. I already have stretchmarks ON my stretch marks :rotflmbo: So you are one lucky mommy!

I want to start buying things for my little ones, but I've been too scared to. I had just given away all of my baby stuff a couple of months ago, and I can't ask for it back since their still using the stuff  But I wouldn't do that anyways lol. I'm just kind of leery about it. I know some of you have bought beds and everything, but has anyone else been just buying a couple of things and what have you been buying. I guess maybe when I find out the sexes I'll feel more comfortable.

Does everyone celebrate Easter here? I'm kinda late, but I need to start making my kid's baskets. Either one of them believe in the Easter bunny, my 3 yr old knows better (she's been here before:) ) So I just buy them a couple of cheapo toys and candy and boil a few eggs, since they don't eat them. What about you ladies?

Well I am going to go to the store later on... i guess. I'm wayyy to lazy. lol I will check back in later.

This might sound crazy, but we're buying very little beforehand. Part of it is superstition, part of it is that we live in a small 1-bdr and after we spent Valentine's Day in the emergency room when I had a massive bleeding episode, we decided that NOW is not the time for me to be packing and lifting heavy boxes. Therefore, no space for lots of stuff until we move (probably when they are 4-5 months old).

I just bought a very "gently used" Arm's Reach co-sleeper, and we've picked out the car seats we want, and I figure now that we have the basics (a way to get them home and a place to put them when we do) then all the rest can wait. And the only reason I bought the co-sleeper NOW is because I found a great deal for it. I'm told that we'll get a lot of clothes as gifts, and the rest will be daily Target runs for my husband and in-laws as we figure out what we actually need. I DO plan to pick out stuff/ register at Babies R Us and Target, but the actual buying-and-taking-home we'll do as we need it. Especially since everyone keeps telling me about all the things they bought beforehand that it turns out they didn't really need.

I don't know...for those of you who already have kids and "know the ropes", does this sound completely nuts?

I haven't been posting, but i've been reading.Kind of cool how everyone has such different experiences while preggo with multiples. I had my 3rd ultrasound on Monday ( the 10th) And found out we are having 2 boys!!
I can only imagine what life will be like with 4 boys..the twins edd 8/23/06, my 3 yr old 11/18/02 and my 9 yr old 4/01/97..ha! My oldest is a girl ( 12) and she is less than excited about having 4 brothers.. I told her it's ok..I can just spoil her rotten since she's the only daughter I have..and the only granddaughter my mom has.So it seems everything is going well in my pregnancy..so far..I just turned 21 weeks yesterday and am amazed @ how time flies..i'm already half way through my pregnancy and the boys will be here before I know it.I'm getting as much rest as I can...I know sleep will be a thing of the past when the babies are here.:D
I hope everyone else is doing well...Good luck to all of you.:throb: :)

The only things I have bought are 2 carseats and a double stroller..and I only bought them because I got them REALLY cheap.I am a habitual procrastinator and will probably wait til the last minute to buy what we need. :D

Trpychick1 - welcome to the board!

DM - it doesn't sound crazy at all. Although I'm a FTM, I think it makes plenty of sense to start out with what you know you'll need and leave the rest for later!

Jay - we bought 2 carseats, a double stroller, and a pack n' play that we'll use as a crib. we have registered for 'everything else' and only bought the big items because we didn't want family paying for shipping (we're in HI, everyone else is on the east coast)

Wendy - hopefully the grouchiness is normal, because I feel it too.. I want everything my way :) although I know that can't be good for DH

I am definitely having a difficult time getting into a comfortable position at night. With my preeclampsia scare, I am now even more concerned about sleeping on my left side, but my shoulder and hip ache after a while. Any tips? Do the full body pillow really work? I currently am sleeping with two king size pillows.

Anyone want to describe the difference between normal back pain and a sign of preterm labor??? At work, I get really achy in my middle and lower back. I think it's from the chair that I sit in. Getting up and moving around helps a little and by night time I have forgoten about the pain. I guess this is normal? And, anything not going away is bad??

Abbie;)

It wasn't too hard for hubby to run out to buy stuff and we had help from his parents, but I don't now about with two, I am going to have everything I need ready just in case. We don't have a lot of room, but we are just going to have to find space for it!

Abbie-At the preventing preterm birth class I went to they said that back pain is lower- right above where your butt crack ends. That is where your uterus is attached, and it is a more rythmic(like contractions)so the pain comes and goes.

Jay-I feel like something bad will happen if I buy a bunch of stuff or if I get all the stuff from when the girls were babies out of the attic. I did just buy a twin nursing pillow off craigslist for $10 :) it looks new, but that is it. I havn't even made it across the street to look at the crib that a neigbor said we could have- fear or lazy-who knows.

Hey all!
So, I'm full of questions today....

Has anyone done a GD test yet? I had one today, and I felt awful and shaky right after drinking the glucose solution. I don't get the results until Monday, so I was wondering, is the shakiness a sign that I probably DO have GD?

Is it actually possible to "outgrow" maternity clothes? I bought these "under the belly band" jeans from Old Navy 2 months ago, and they're already feeling uncomfortably tight. What do I wear NOW?

Is anyone else on Zantac? My OB calls it a pregnant woman's best friend, but I really don't like the idea of taking meds while pregnant. Rolaids is losing it's effectiveness on the reflux though....

Anyone else getting swelling in their fingers? I didn't mind so much in my ankles, but I really hate the thought of having to take off my wedding ring...

Is it possible to have BH contractions without knowing it? I would know it if I was, right?

Has anyone ever had experience buying maternity swimsuits? Are the one-pieces stretchy enough that if I get one now, it will still fit in a couple of months? Or should I just get tankini (but I hate the idea of it riding up...)?

Thanks
DM

Hi everyone!

I'm sooo glad I am not the only person kind of scared of buying things. But it seems like most of you at least got the essentials. I will probably get some car seats or at least put them on layaway when I find out the sexes and everything goes well with this dr appt.

DM- To be honest, my kids were 5 yrs apart, and by the time I got to my second, I couldnt remember much. But the only thing that I can remember not using was clothes. I made an effort to try to use everything, but I had so many clothes that when I gave away some a couple of months ago, the price tags were still on ALOT of them. All I can say is try to use everything you have at least once, clothing won't be that hard since we will have two! But you will probably use all of the big things.

How did you feel later on after the (GD) test towards the end?

What kind of build are you? I was over weight to start with so I grew out of maternity clothes quickly, I just switched to plus size with elastic and it works great for me. But what I hear from other moms from later on, you will grow out of your clothes a couple of times.

I haven't been able to wear my wedding ring since month 3, or any of my other rings for that matter.

I have taken Zantac before with my singleton, and my son came out just fine. If the doctor says it's ok, I dont have a problem with taking the medication.

FYI- (Wouldn't be caught dead in any kind of swimsuit!) :rotflmbo:

trpychik1- Welcome and congrats on your boys! You should post more often! I've been thinking about all the time left, but you were uplifting and reminded me that I'm halfway there. Thanks:)

Abbie- wow how's Hawaii?!?!? I would just be laying on the beach everyday!! Preterm labor (back pains) does not go away when you move or change postions according to the book. Only if you had rhymtic pains every couple of minutes or so would be cause to worry.

Bateacher- Cute pic! Looking good! Keep up the good work. I wish I was only belly:)

Diane- I 've been seeing a lot of craiglist lately, what exactly is that?

I didn't end up going to the store yesterday, I waited for my sis to come from college so she could help me at the store. I already feel like I need one of those ride-on carts. My feet are swollen this morning and last night. So off to buy some Easter stuff, I might let the kids run around and have a pretend Easter egg hunt lol. Count down to my Dr. appt Monday!! :yippee: Well I will check in later, I hope you all have a great Friday!

Abbie - I have some serious back pain the last few days. I actually was in tears on Wednesday night because it hurt so badly. Between the heating pad, the microwaveable heat pack and the Biofreeze I put on my back I am constantly trying to ease the pain. I also use these thermacare heat wraps that work pretty well - you should get some of those to sleep with.

As far as the pillow is concerned, I bought one of these snoogle pillows for $50 and have found no comfort in it at all. Maybe I am not big enough for it yet, but I just use a king size pillow between my legs which is better than nothing, I suppose.

I have a doctors appointment on Monday and plan to ask the doctor if there is anything that I can do. Sitting in a cubicle all day does not help either, I am sure!

If you ladies have a solution or a better pillow, please let me know because I am suffering like crazy over here!

Happy Easter to all!
Carmen

My one piece swimsuit is very stretchy and I think it will fit the whole pregnancy. I am outgrowing a lot of my clothes. All my shirts are getting too short, but I might just have to wear them that way and if people don't like seeing my belly peek out at the bottom they will just have to not look ;) They are loose fitting shirts. I bought a couple of tank tops at old navy that I think should cover the whole time (they are tight fitting shirts.) I think I will stick with the four or five dresses I have toward the end. I don't know how many pants will fit me. I don't think they take into account twin pregnancy when they design maternity clothes.

They say you need one and a half times the amount of clothes as you would for a singleton.

Yea, its Friday!
