I've read that diarrhea and/or excessive bowel movements are sometimes a sign that you will go into labor soon. Has anyone actually experienced this with any of their pregnancies??

Yes, I had it with my two singletons. I really think I was already in labor but not feeling it really badly when it happened.
I think this is why some people take castor oil when they want to go into labor b/c it makes everything come out. Yuck. Sorry for the details.

yes yes yes!!!! i was 29 weeks and had diarrhea and it sent me into labor. The thing you need to watch for is dehydration. Drink plenty of water. I had food poison and then was sick and that irratated my uterus. Just be careful. I was thinking "ohh these cant be contractions" well they were and coming pretty regular. Call your ped if you have any questions too. it can be scarey!

I don't remember having that with either of my first two but maybe I did and just didn't remember it. I dunno. I just knew that it must be labor starting because I was already over due. :D Where as with these twins, its a guessing game for me because we all could go pre-term and not really know if its the real thing or not.

The twins were my 3rd preg and I still wondered if things were a sign as the time got closer. I thought I was going to be preg forever. I don't remember having diarrhea before going into labor only because I had it the entire preg. I learned later on that it was from the pre-natel vitamins. Anyway, trust me on this, you will know when it is real labor!!!
Good Luck and get lots of rest!!

I think I read somewhere that it is your bodies natural why of releasing everything before labor. Something to do with hormones that are released. Anyway when I went into preterm labor a couple weeks back I did have loose stools. I usually eat prunes every now and then just to try to stay regular but hadn't had any recent of going into labor. I think I read it in Everything You Need to Know About Being PG. But My labor had already started before the BM. I also never lost my Mucus Plug and I have read about that being an indicator of labor. I think everyones body is alittle different.

With my first daughter, I never really went into labor, so I dont know for sure, but this week (my c-section is scheduled wednesday) I would definitely say my body is getting ready. I have had a ton of bowel movements the last couple of days. I have two friends that recently gave birth and one had diarrhea/vomitting for two days and then went into labor, and the other had just a lot of loose bowel movements for a couple of days before. So Im not sure if its a definite sign, but right now its starting to feel like it for me. Even though my c-section is scheduled for wednesday, I just have a feeling these two little boys will come a day or two earlier, just to be stinkers.

Not me, but my sister had diarrhea just before she went into labor with her DS. I believe she got it about 10-12 hours before his birth (he's her first and only, but was a quick labor), but it MIGHT have been the day before. I don't recall. She didn't know it was a sign of labor, so she didn't connect the dots until she was having strong contractions (and was already 5cm).

I've also heard plenty of stories of moms who had the loose stools/diarrhea and discounted it as stomach issues. Especially when accompanied by some cramping, like they had food poisoning or something. Turned out they were in labor, and two of them ended up having surprise labors right there in their house!
I think it's pretty common for your body to try to clear everything out of the way so it's not so awful at pushing time, haha!
