I know this may sound weird but it's somthing I have been putting some serious thought into... should I buy maternity undies? I didn't with my daughter and some regrets then (I bought the "granny" type panties - to much material in the back and not enough in the front). But I thought with carrying twins it may be a necessity - I am 11 weeks now and am starting to grow! I have always had a hard time spending any type of money on myself and thought if enough said yes I could justify it. Also where the heck can you buy them? And what's the approximate cost? All of the "maternity" stores in our area have gone under since my daughter was born so I would need to buy from a department store or discount stores (Walmart, Target). Any advice would be wonderful and Thanks! much in advance. Kim

yes!! You will be more comfortable and you can wear them after the babies are born so you don't ruin your good undies. I bought my from Target and Motherhood. I think Babies R Us sells them too.

Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy!!

I haven't worn them yet and I am 17 weeks in my 4th pregnancy...but I am considering it. I saw target has 2-3 packs for about $10-12.

So far I wear a cotton bikini style panty from JC Penney in one size larger that (on sale) goes for 4 for $12.

I did buy maternity underwear. The over-the-belly kind were great for about 2 weeks. Now they sit in a pile in my closet...under the belly is the only way I can stand it!!

I just stopped wearing underwear altogether at about 4-5 months pg. I could have technically worn my regular bikinis and just kept the band low, but any kind of waistband whatsoever touching any part of my abdominal area made me itch so bad that I couldn't think of anything else. So I lived in maternity dresses with no panties.

I also bought regular cotton bikini-style undies in a larger size. The maternity ones are EXPENSIVE. I bought a package of the maternity undies...and they ended up not fitting right and I couldn't return them. So, I just buy the regular undies at Walmart or Target...they are very comfy!!!

I bought some at Motherhood but they sit too high on my belly and irritate me. I ordered some online at oldnavy.com and I love them! I think they even have them on sale right now! They also have some cute clothes there you might like since you said you don't have any stores in your area, I had that problem too. Good luck!

They gave me constant wedgies. LOL!

The over the belly maternity underwear were also useless to me while pg because they bothered my belly, but I did like them after the delivery until the abdominal swelling went down. I couldn't stand to have bikini style underwear near my C-section incision. I probably could've bought regular highcut panties in a larger size, but the stretchiness of the maternity undies were very comfortable postpartum.

While pg, I like the thong maternity undies from Motherhood Maternity. They were bikini style in the front. I felt sexy in them. :D

Lol, I assume your maternity wear didn't consist of mini-skirts?

LOL! No, I wore calf-length cotton dresses. I got a couple in a hand-me-down bag from a friend who was done having children, and found them to be so much cooler and more comfortable than maternity shorts or pants. I had to buy more at thrift stores and yard sales, because apparently they aren't very trendy. But by the second half of my pregnancy, I didn't care about fashion; I cared about comfort! And longer cotton dresses fit the bill. No waist band. And long enough to hide the fact that I wasn't wearing underwear.

I had this one that was purple with white daisies and was quite possibly the ugliest piece of clothing I've ever seen in my life. But it was sooooo comfortable that I wore it like twice a week and just went ahead and let my friends make fun of me : )

I too wear bikini undies in a size or two larger. Now that I'm huge (33 weeks) I can't imagine having undies on my belly all day. My over the belly pants are ok for a little while, but as soon as I get home I shove them down over my belly or pull them off all together.

Both Gap and Old Navy sell maternity bikinis and thongs. Old Navy I think has 3 packs on sale for $9.50 which isn't too bad. Gap they are anywhere from $6.99 a pair on sale to $10.50 a pair or 3/$25. I am going to get myself some from Old Navy. My regular ones are getting a bit uncomfortable.

I'm with the general consensus. I mostly wore bikini's in a large size. I also couldn't stand to have something around my belly in the later weeks. If you think you might end up with a c/s though, pack a few pair of big granny pants for the hospital to wear. The bikini ones hit at your incision and are very uncomfortable.

Both Gap and Old Navy sell maternity bikinis and thongs.

I am trying to imagine what a maternity thong must look like...

I didnt wear maternity underwear with my first child. I just bought a couple of sizes bigger. This pregnancy I definitely had to buy maternity underwear! I didnt like most of the ones I saw at motherhood, but I did find a style I liked at Kohls (and a lot cheaper than motherhood!)..

I am measuring about 24 weeks right now and am still in my reg panties...mostly because I had recently lost alot of weight and never spent the money on new undies...mine were still in great shape and I like the cotton thong. That is all i wear. I am sure I will have to wear a bigger size but now, after having worn the thong for 3yrs and nothing else, all that material on my a$$ is IRRITATING! lol...I'll opt for just buying these same panties in bigger sizes...* )
As far as nursing bras go, what do you girls think about just getting the snap in fron type sport bras instead of the *nursing* bras that are so expensive? I am a braod woman..My rib cage is very thick so it is hard to find bras in my size around for the cup size I need...I was thinking the sports bras would be a good alternative. What do you think?

I used the sport bras when I nursed with my daughter. They were so much cheaper, and much more comfortable!

Yikes, preggies in bare butts and thongs, hahaha! Just kidding...

I also cannot stand to have extra fabric over my already baking-hot belly. (Especially in the summer, and plus the fact that most of my maternity shorts also have panels. That's three hot layers, undies, shorts and shirt! ICK!) I am wearing bikini panties in a size larger. My belly is riding really low, so I have to roll the elastic down a little in the front, believe it or not, but they are still so comfy.

I preferred nursing in a sports bra, too. Very stretchy and comfy, and to nurse I just pulled it up on top of my boob and let baby go at it. Now with twins, though, I imagine you wouldn't be able to tandem nurse in that type of bra. But could either unhook a front latch one (as you mentioned), or wear a regular nursing bra with the little hooked panels.

Along that note, I have heard that a good nursing swimming suit to buy is one that has a low V cut at your cleavage. Then you can just slip the V neckline over to the side to let a boob out...
