I was just curious how often everyone is having dr. appointments at this point in their pregnancies. Several other sites and message boards I have visited have postings all over stating they are already going twice a month. I am at 14 weeks and am only having one appt. a month. My next one is not until July 3rd, which is the first appt. the peri will be attending. Is this pretty much the norm for the rest of you or should I be going more often than once a month this early in the pregnancy?

I was going once a month to my regular OB until my 13th week. Then I started seeing the peri once a month and my regular OB once a month.

Hi, what's a peri? I'm 18 weeks and my dr hasn't mentioned a peri to me... I go every 3 weeks.

Hey, when I was pregnant I saw the OB once a month until week 20, then every 2 weeks until week 26 and then weekly until I delivered at 34 weeks. I delivered early because of pre-eclampsia.

A peri is a perinatologist - a doctor who specializes in higher risk pregnancies. A lot of women pregnant with twins see one. I didn't see one until the last 2 weeks of my pregnancy when it became obvious that I was going to have to deliver early. If you're having a smooth pregnancy and you aren't pregnant with mono/mono twins and TTTS isn't a concern, they usually won't make you see a peri.

I have been going every 2-3 weeks. I have trouble with blood pressure though so he is watching me closer.

I had bleeding right away, so went in for an u/s. Suprise they found 2 heartbeats. It appeared they were in the same sack (high risk mo/mo twins),...so i went back in 2 weeks for another u/s to search for a membrane b/w the twins,...they found one (mo/di)!

Now for my 3rd appt there has been 5 weeks lapse,........which feels like FOREVER!!!!

I plan on getting a peri referral and being real proactive with this pregnancy. Because they are in they are identical twins sharing the same placenta,...TTTS is an issue & more complications in general. I do not want an amnio, but want a Level 2 u/s & would like to be monitored by ob/gyn & peri.

So,.....that's my plan anyway!!

Well luckily, my ob does a u/s at every visit (this is just normal practice for her no matter how many you are carrying). The twins are mo/di, but have had no complications what so ever to this point (crossin fingers) with the exception of me having low blood pressure at my last visit (99/something). I was concerned that my ob may be a bit lax with me because of my easy pregnancies (no morning sickness or any adverse symptoms/complications) and "easy" labor (longest so far has been just under 4 hours), but from the sounds of things everything is routine as far as the appts go so far. I had full intentions of asking her if and when we needed to start consulting/seeing a peri and she beat me to the punch. Said she already had one arranged to meet at her office for our next visit, so that was a relief. Thanks everyone for their input on the question!

I think you could see from everyone's responses that everyone's situation and level of care is a little different. I see my obgyn every month or two and just see my peri every 1-2 weeks depending how things are doing. I get an ultrasound at most every appointment with some ultrasounds lasting longer than others depending if they are doing a growth scan or just a check up.

I went to my obgyn every two weeks starting at week 12. I think I started going every week after week 32. I never saw a peri at all (they never even mentioned one), so I guess everyone is different. I had a very uneventful pregnancy though! I had level two sonos once a month starting at 4 months I think...you will have soooo many sono pics of your lil ones!! I made a whole scrap book just out of sono pics :)

As long as there are no serious problems I will be seeing OB every 4 weeks until 20 weeks, then every three weeks until 30 weeks. After that every week till delivery.

melanie,
i was scared to death of amnio but ended up having to have it to check for an infection and it wasn't bad at all! the worst part was the numbing shot! ( i held hubby's hand and didn't look at tne needle though and also had a wet cold towel across my face!!!) feel free to private message me w/ any questions.

I had identicals in the same sack...and same placenta. but i didnt find out i was preggo with two until 20 weeks, from there i was seen every 2 weeks by a peri...and had an unltra sound every 3 to 4 weeks. I also had NST test from 36 weeks to 38 every week, and delivered 38 and half weeks. It is A LOT but better safe than sorry.
