Hello Everyone,

Well this is my first time posting but I have been around for a few weeks reading about everyone!! A little about me I am currently 16wks pregnant with my 1st pregnancy and with identical twins monochorionic/diamniotic (according to the ultrasound).

I had my 2nd OB appt yesterday and I have only gained 2 pounds! I have been reading the book from Dr Luke and trying my best to keep up with the calorie intake but I guess I am not doing a very good job(even with protein drinks)!! I don’t think I will ever get to the 24pound by 24 wks my main concern is the babies weight!! How can they possibly be gaining any weight when I have only gained 2 pounds. Although I had some morning sickness and threw up a few times I was still eating during this time!! How was everyone else at this stage???

Thanks
Anne

Hello, I just wanted to post and tell you i am currentley 23 weeks pg. and have only gainned 4 pounds, I just recentley had a ultrasound and found out that i was having twin boy's, and they are both very healthy and are at the weight they should be. If you have any major concerns about it i would check with your doctor, But when i was pregnant with my first, i did not gain alot untill last two months, so i am waiting to see what happens. Good Luck with everything...mary

When I was pregnant I didn't gain any weight at all. The day before my twins were born I was 2 pounds less than when I got pregnant. I had hyperemisis and was sick the entire pregnancy but when I could eat I ate as healthy as possible and drank tons of Boost Breeze. My boys were large for their gestational age too so while I ended up loosing quite a bit of weight they gained quite well.

I am 13 wks preg. and I have gained 10 pounds so far. In one of the books I have it says that a good weight gain for the first trimester would be 10-12 pounds in a twin preg. Although I'm sure every one's bodies are different. I met a girl the other day that said she only gained 12 pounds her entire twin preg!!! I couldn't believe it. The babies weighed 4-5 pounds each and both were very healthy. I'm sure you're on the right track by eating healthy! Congratulations and good luck!!!

Anne,

I read Dr. Luke's book too and am having the same concern. I've only gained about 18 lbs and I'm 26 weeks. I think the book says you should gain 24 lbs by week 24. My doctor said as long as the babies are growing as they should (which they are), not to worry. But I do anyway.

I'm glad you started this thread cause I'm seeing that everyone is totally different. So now I'll try not to worry so much! But ask your doctor if you're still concerned.

Congrat on your twins!!!

If it will help ... I have 8 mths old twins.. most of my weigt gain was at the end.. and then wow! .. If your really need some " help " You can get ahold of Dr. Luke's office and they will return your call for support.. I was the other way around.. I knew somting was up when in one week I put on 5 lbs. I packed on 50 before I was 31 weeks.. I will have to say as well that women are all different.
I was also still sick feeling at this stage. It will get better soon.

I'm having the same problem. I was really doing well with weight gain until I found out about the twins at 21 weeks. At 20 weeks I had gained 8 pounds. Then at 22 weeks up to ten pounds. The dr. said I was about 10 lbs behind but he wasn't too worried. My husband's been stuffing me since and last week 23 weeks I though I must have gained about 5 lbs. b/c my stomach sure's getting bigger and I actually lost 2 lbs. anyhow just do your best. As long as you are eating the babies will take what they need. I eat really healthy but am getting all my viatmins and stuff. I just can't eat pure fat which is what really packs it on. WE do use whole mile and real butter in cooking but I just am not big on eating deserts and ice cream etc. addie

If it makes you feel any better, I am 20w5days with triplets and have only gained 12 pounds total. At 19 weeks my weight gain picked up to 2 pounds a week so far. Doctor said same as others say - as long as babies are growing we are good. And mine are so. I think I have been so sick that everything I take in is going to babies. I personanlly have proabably lost a few pounds but they are gaining and that's what counts.

Well, I am always glad to read when someone has the same concerns that I do. I am 17 and a half weeks and have gained 3 lbs. It really worried me so at the last appointment I asked the Doc. She said not to stress it as long as I truly am eating. She said there is an absolute miracle being performed inside our bodies right now, she said as the babies are forming, (especially since there are 2) they are using up ALOT of our calories. She said that we are doing great just to be keeping up and not losing weight. So according to Doc don't worry, just keep bringing in those calories. She said the lbs will come on fast here pretty soon. Don't know if this helped at all, but they were comforting words to me! And congrats by the way!!!!

when i was pregnant with my twins i had this doctor who made me cry because she said i obviously wasnt eating enough, so i switched docs. i didnt gain very much weight at all through the whole pregnancy, people couldnt even believe i was carrying twins. well anyways when i went into labor they had these pediatric doctors come in and tell me what to expect when the babies were born. they told me they would end up being rushed away to NICU and all these scary things. so i had the twins and they were born 6 pounds and 7 pounds. the doctors were WAY off, and i got to brag big time. so i wouldnt worry about it. i have seen woman gain sooooo....... much weight and have a 5 pound babys and then woman who dont gain much at all who have 8 or 9 pound babies. good luck in your pregnancy!!

I have loved reading the posts on this thread. Although my weight gain did pick up at at 32 weeks I have gained over 30 lbs., I am sick of comments from friends and total strangers saying I look too small to be having twins. It is not just the statement but the tone which implies I am starving my babies. Mine are measuring are the small side but on the small side of NORMAL. My docs are not worried. And I like the last post that said even tho she had low weight gain her babies were 6 and 7 lbs. Here's hoping!

I met one woman at a park and when she found out I was having twins she asked if I was sure. I thought she was kidding so chuckled and said yes. She repeated it again with the rude tone and asked how many ultrasounds I have had to check. Nothing like a total stranger making me doubt how I am taking care of myself! Geeesh!

Hey Ya'll, Before I became prenant I had lost 15 lbs by swimming and dieting.
I stopped swimming because of a cut on my foot and then gained all the weight back. I didnot know I was preggo. Then started getting sick at everthing!!!! at 4 to 6 weeks along. I didnot gain any more weight, I lost weigth for several weeks. It was not untill my 20th week OB visit had I gained 4 lbs and then two weeks later 5lbs, two weeks later 1 lbs and the just 2 lbs at my last visit. So by my 24th week I had gained close to the 25lbs Dr. Luke reccomends.

I am a Big Gal to began with. What makes matters worse is my skinny-thinks-she -knows-everthing Sister. I told her that I had gained 25lbs and so she went OFF ON ME!!! She said "Do your know you are only suppose to gain 30 lbs!!" I calmly asked her "When did she become a OB/GYN???"
She had a set of twins born July 2002 at 28weeks. She is the one who gave me Dr. Luke's Book. I told her what the book said about twin pregnancy weight gain. Then I ask her "Did you not read the book? She responded by saying "NO, just looked at the pictures" If Iam not mistaken she gained about 40 to 50lbs with her twins!!There is not that many pic in Dr. Luke's book.
She is what I call -- "Pot calling the Kettel Black" When I got off the phone with her I cryed I was soooo MAD! So Ladies the critism can come from both sides. Good Luck and do not worry as long as your babies are Healthy!!

I had the same problem. I lost 10 pounds in the first trimester due to nausea! I was so worried but the ob said not to worry it will come. And boy did it, but not really until my third trimester. I gained 32lbs total and 21 of it came in the beginning of the third trimester. As long as the u/s are looking good don't worry.

It is amazing how different we all are. I have also read the Dr. Luke book, and seeing that I have never had any problems gaining weight during pregnancy ;), I was sure it wouldn't be a problem. However, I have been sicker, and more tired and...just plain more pregnant. I decided to eat the best I can and I try to eat four eggs every other day, an avocado a day and some cream in my shakes now and then (I can't eat sugar). At my 12 week I had gained 11 pounds and the nurse railed on me :( . I referred her to the study.

As far as strangers and advice my philosphy has always been to limit the conversation as much as possible. Then don't let some stranger ruin your day-flat out refuse! Do what you can do then just go on. People have no clue-only we see what our bellies really look like!! (Thank heavens!!!)I don't think people realize what they are saying-asking a woman about their weight-that is dangerous stuff.

I am also a little taller (5-9) and my weight surprises some people-oh well.
