Hi,
I am new to this board, and soooo excited. I recently found out I am pregnant w/ twins :) ! I am eight week pg. I went in today for an u/s and checkup. In 7 days I gained 4 pounds!!!!! I swear I am showing already. Everyone keeps telling me its too soon to show. I was hoping some of ya'll could tell me what your experience was/is.
Thanks a bunch!
I look forward to chatting about our "special" experiences !

I think I started showing at 3 months. It was obvious to me at 2, but 3 is when other people noticed if I showed them!
Good Luck!

I think it actually took me a while for me to start showing. But for me, I had a friend who was 5 weeks pg w/a singleton (she just delivered a few days ago), who was keeping her pg a secret for the longest time, so people were concentrating on her looking so pg, but not telling anyone. So they didn't even think I was.
And I didn't gain much weight at all in the beginning. As it is, I'm at 34 weeks and have only gained 34 lbs.
Good luck!

Hi Patricia,
You're not alone- I definitely started showing in the early weeks of pregnancy (around 8-10 wks). Probably just bloating, but I had a little pouch so early. I was amazed at how quickly it was obvious! this is my 2nd pregnancy, so you tend to show early with the 2nd also. I'm 21 wks now and have gained about 20 or so lbs! I feel big. Doc says I'm doing great though. Good luck!!

I noticed I was showing just before I took a p/g test. I was suspsious.
I was 2 months at that time. With my singleton, 1st p/g I didn't show until almost 5 months and gained 62lbs. Oh my gosh! I forgot all about that. I am 29 weeks and 3 days p/g with twins and I have gained 45lbs.
Needless to say, I hope these twins keep me so busy that I loose a lot of weight!!!!!!!!

I started to show at about 10 weeks or so. I delivered my girls at 37 wks 1 day and had gained a total of....................not trying to scare you lol............90lbs!! :O
My girls were 6lbs 2.5 ozs & 7lbs 15ozs. I've lost just a little over 40 pds in the last 4 weeks since their birth.
Enjoy being pregnant. It's such an awesome experience!

I started showing about 6-7 weeks. i just got done losing 25 lbs. then i got pregnant. oops. (double oops). i was showing so early i argued with my due date not even thinking that there could be two babies. they did a sonagram the next day and there were two babies. it explained everything. i only gained 33 lbs. but only made it to 29 weeks 0 days.

I am not really sure how much I gained early on b/c I'd had fertility shots and was hyperstimulated, which causes major bloating (lots of cysts filled with fluid), so I looked like I was 4 mos. pg before we even had the procedure! We went on vacation and it was embarrassing wearing a swimsuit with a belly like that and only 4 wks. pg! Then we found out it was triplets so I didn't feel too bad (but we lost one and now we are expecting twin boys).
I am 19 wks. now and have gained about 25 lbs. since my last appointment (but my home scale weighs me lighter, so...?) I am trying not to obsess. Several women I've talked to said they gained about 75 lbs. I know that's not recommended, but I as long as I'm eating enough but not pigging out... I have really popped out in the last week and bypassed my co-worker who is a week ahead of me (20 wks.) with a singleton. Hopefully my babies will be a decent size! My first was 8 lbs. 9 oz. and 21 1/4", so I will be grateful if these both make it to 6 lbs.!

Patricia, whoever is telling you "it's too soon to show" has obviously never been pregnant with twins. Relax, it's different for everyone. I was definetely putting on the pounds by 8 wks. Women don't need to hear they "shouldn't be that big" at any point in pregnancy, our emotions are running wild enough as it is. If you are showing at 8 weeks, then obviously you are supposed to be showing. The main thing that needs to be on preg w/twins' mommy's mind is being happy and having healthy babies. And if that means gaining 100 pounds so be it. I gained 90 and had healthy babies @ 36 weeks. It has taken me 8 1/2 months, but I'm proud to say I'm back in my size 6 :) not bad for an old woman!

I remember going to a friend's house before we knew we were having twins, I was about 8 weeks along. Another friend was there and she was 10 weeks further along than I with her second pregnancy, this was my first, I was bigger than she was! I started wearing elastic pants at around 8 weeks, maternity clothes around 3 months. Through much of the first and second trimesters I gained a pound and an inch a week! I ended up gaining 42#'s altogether. I delivered at 34 weeks.
Oh, and some of my coworkers loved telling me at 4 months it was too soon to be waddling! Not that I could walk without a waddle measuring 6-7 months!!

Thank you all for replying!!
I do feel a lot more normal after hearing your stories.
I am now 3 months and have gained 6 lbs. I am offically wearing maternity clothes-- not the full panel ones, but the under the belly ones. I must say I was quite disappointed in the maternity selection available. Anything that was remotely cute was sooo expensive...
I have decided not to worry about my weight. The only thing is my doctor keeps stressing that I shouldn't gain more that 40 lbs for my current weight/height...that just can't be right!!!
Anyhow, hope everyone is doing well....:)

Have you looked at Target for maternity clothes? They have some cute stuff that is reasonably priced. Be careful though to not buy too much now. I grew so much that I could no longer fit in some of the clothes that I bought early or; was lucky enough to borrow larger sizes from a friend.

Hey Pat!
Good question, I've been wondering the same thing. I'm 11 weeks along, and definitely showing. Last night I had the top button of my skirt undone and had it rolled up. =) I've only gained between 2 and 4 lbs. I've been reading a really great book by Dr. Barbara Luke and Tamara Eberlein called, "When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads". This Dr. has done a lot of twin pregnancy researce and has a multiple birth clinic with a higher baby weight rate. Anyway, she says gain 24 lbs. by 24 weeks. Also, the book says between 40 and 50 lbs. total, but her newest research says between 46 and 56 lbs.! There's also some other factors that cause you to need more, and a few (if you're extrememly overweight) that cause you to need less. At 5'4" and 145 lbs. I've never had trouble gaining weight... UNTIL NOW!!! <sigh> I'm gonna keep trying though, because it's best for my babies! I know I'll get an appetite eventually.

hello everyone! i just got back from the doctors office and gained four pounds last week. so far i've gained 30 pounds and i'm at 24 1/2 weeks. the docs say it is fine.. i'm thinking i'm going to be GIGANTIC by the end of this pregnancy!
i started out pretty thin, and fortunately the weight gain is mostly in my belly. i measured at 30 weeks, which is normal for twins the doc said.
i didn't gain a whole lot of weight the first trimester, but WOW i have packed on the pounds during the second trimester!
i'm not worried though - i want my babies to be fat and healthy!
good luck to all...

It was the day after my first U/S, i was 14 weeks and just found out about the twins, i will never forget it, one day i was thin and the next my belly just popped out and i looked about 6 months preggy. My doc kept telling me off because she thought i was gaining too much weight, every month i would go i would put on 10 lbs, i am 5'7" and was 149lbs before, i took no notice of her really because i was concerned i wasnt eating enough! Anyway by the time i got to 6.5 months i was 199lbs, and i never did reach that 200lbs i was dreading!!! I didnt put another pound on and delivered at 34 weeks, as soon as i delivered (8 weeks ago) i lost 25lbs and now have lost 30 so i dont have far to go.
Have you tried motherhood for your clothes, i found some really nice ones there, they have a web site aswell......www.motherhood.com
The clothes werent that expensive at all. Goodluck with finding some, i know how it feels when you just want to look cute with it all.
I hope your pregnancy goes well and dont worry about looking big now, by the time you deliver you will be so big all those people will feel sorry for you and there will be no mistaking it is twins, in fact the funny thing that keeps happening to me now is when i get a minute to go to the shops without the girls the cashiers keep saying congrats and when is it due, i like to make them feel embarrassed! lol

It's not! Docs rarely know much about nutrition. As another poster said, the guru on multiple PG nutrition is Barbara Luke. Get her book ASAP and follow it, as it represents the latest research on the subject.
Luke is also big on early weight gain -- with twins you should gain 24# by 24 weeks! Karen Kerkhoff Gromada's book, Mothering Multiples, also notes that women whose twins were full term (at least 37 weeks) and good weights 6# or more typically gained 50-60#.
I gained 27# by 24 weeks and 49# so far (I am at 33 weeks now). At their last measuring US (31 weeks), my babes were 4# 7oz and 4# 4oz, which is 79% and 67% of normal SINGLETON weights for their gestational ages. My belly is HUGE, but the rest of me is not much bigger than pre-PG.
High protein diets also guard against preclampsia.
Good luck!

I gained inches before I gained pounds. I had a definite hard pooch at 2 months and was in maternity clothing by 3 months but had only gained 12 pounds at my 19 week ultrasound. I ended up with a total weight gain of 45 pounds by 36 weeks and 6 days when I delivered. Aubrey weighed 5 pounds 11 ounces, and Alyssa weighed 5 pounds 7 ounces.

The twins were my second pregnancy and I was in maternity clothes at 8 weeks! I gained a total of 57 lbs. I can't remember who said it, but truly most ob's aren't very familiar with nutrition for a twin pregnancy. Don't worry about sticking to a particular number for weight gain. And I agree, the Dr. Barbara Luke book is awesome!! :)

Thanks for all of your advise...
I'm actually ordering Dr. Lukes book online today.
I had a dr appt this past tuesday and i was at 139#...three days later i went back for blood work, i had gained 2 1/2 #....at this point i'm starting to think this weight gain is comical..:)
If anyone else is still shopping for mat clothes, OLDNAVY.com and GAP.com have the cutest clothes...thier clearance link has cheap clothes, i ordered so much stuff and never paid more than ten dollars for one item.
Hope everyones pg is going good!!!
