Well, my doctor's appointment is today at 11:30 for an amnio to check lung maturity on the girls. Friday we had another ultrasound and saw both of them practicing their breathing so hopefully this will come back okay and we can deliver tomorrow via c-section.

My problem is this.... I did not have an amnio with my first born and am nervous about the needle. Not so worried about the 1% chance of infection/contractions, etc...Have faith in my doctor there. But nervous about pain as I have never been big fan of needles.

Also, my brother is driving in today from NM as we had originally planned to do this all in one day (amnio and section). I am nervous that the test will come back negative despite the fact that we are 36 weeks today. Obviously, I wouldn't go through with section tomorrow if it endangered the girls, but I am SOOOO anxious to hold them in my arms and let my feet return to a normal size! :)

Okay - well, thanks for letting me vent this. Keep your fingers crossed. I'll post results this afternoon hopefully!

The amnio isn't very painful..I had 2 amnioreductions, which took about 40 minutes each. Definitely uncomfortable, but not painful. The anticipation is way way worse than actually having it done! Of course it has a lot to do with the skill of the doctor, but sounds like you're pretty confident in yours..so that's a good thing!

Good luck..and I hope those lungs are ready!

while we are on the topic, do they numb your belly at all when they do an amnio?

Really the amnio is not that bad at all. The needle looks worse than the pain. And no they didn't numb my belly.

They did my amnio at 36 weeks and the lungs were developed. Good luck to you!!!!:)

I had an amnio done around 33 1/2 wks and it wasn't bad at all...and I am a huge baby when it comes to needles. I closed my eyes so I didn't have to see the needle. My mom was in there (dh had gone to work that day as nothing too exiting was going on yet) and watched and she said the needle was long but it is pretty thin. No numbing for me either. I'm sure you will be fine. If I can do it then anyone can!! :)

Amnio was a breeze! They did not numb my tummy any and it didn't make a bit of difference! Doc told me that the build up is worse than the actual procedure, and he was right!

Asked doctor what he thought our chances were and he looked at the fluid in the vial and said he thinks we have a better than 70% chance of the lungs being mature. So...

We are SCHEDULED for the c-section tomorrow night at 7:30 PM MST. Thanks to all for your continued thoughts and prayers and we will post as we can!
