Today I went in for an NST...I am 38wks now. While laying on the table I started to contract Q5min...and my blood preasure was elevated. Plus I was seeing floaters early that morning. So I was sent to triage. I triage my vaginal exam revealed that I was 2cm (I was only finger tip 3wks ago) I was held for an hour and rechecked Now I was 3cm. I was then sent to L and D for delivery. I was exstatic considering I wanted to have the babies anyway I called all my family and friends...I signed my consent for an epidural...I was ready. The resident said that I may need to have my membranes ruptured at this point to augment my labor...I was all for it. My vaginal at this point is supposed to be 3 1/2 cm. My attending comes in and does a vaginal exam and wonders if I am in labor at all....you see he still thinks I'm 2cm...but he doesn't say anything. My blood preasure is down now and the babies look good. But I am contracting every 5-9minutes some of which are painful. Anyway to make a long story short at 10pm tonight they have kept me on monitors all day, would not allow me to eat and kept me on my back for 10hrs...just to say that I am not in labor....but they don't want to send me home...they want me to spend the night and they will check me in the morning and if I am still not dialated they will send me home. What about an induction I inquire...absolutley not they respond I am still 2 wks from my due date...no indication. I asked for the paper work to sign out against medical advise because now I think I'm dealing with idots...either I am in labor or not...latent labor does not take 12hrs...and if I'm not in labor why continue to torture me? just so you can send me home in the morning? We had our car seats and bags and were ready to go...now I don't know what is going to happen....I came home. I want to change doctors because I HATE HIS PHILOSOPHY ON NOT DELIVERING ME UNLESS A COMPLICATION ARISES.....WON'T IT BE TO LATE THEN?

OH, I am so sorry for what you've been through. I have a friend who works at a hospital and she says (at least this must be true for her hospital) that if you tell them you are not leaving until they deliver the babies, that they are pretty much stuck and they have to deliver. 38 weeks is plenty far along, how big are they??
I hope you can deliver soon, it sounds like you are ready. Best of luck to you,
Kathrine

Oh you poor woman Go have sex and lots of it. Jumping jacks. or caster oil(sp?) half a bottle to 1/4 cup orange juic concentrate. I feel for you. According to my dr's 38 weeks is total term for twins. 35 weeks on is uncomplicated delivery time. SEX SEX SEX. I know some what how you feel I went 37.5. I was crying and telling my dr's they were fired if they dont get the babies out NOW. lol. I feel for you

I am so sorry you have to go through this. I am very perplexed as to this full term for twins philosophy that the your doctor has. I would definately switch doctors if possible. I just don't understand why he would impose his philosophy on you when it is standard and advisable to deliver you at this point. At my perinatologist's office they call it "old school" to let twins go past 38 weeks.
Can/should a doctor force his opinion on you when it is not the "standard anymore"?
Take care

Where in Chicagoland do you live?? I live in Romeoville, a far southwestern suburb about 30 miles from downtown...which hospital are you using?

Three weekends in a row, following my NST's I was sent to L&D for observation as I was contracting or my BP was high, or some other reason. I went for a month dialated to 5 cm, contracting every 6-9 minutes. Finally, since my liver enzymes were high, and this was something they hadn't checked, they decided to deliver me @ 34w4d. I can understand the frustration with keeping you, for what seems like no real reason. The last time I went in I told them they had 15 minutes to make a decision or I was pulling the IV out and signing myself out AMA!!!! About 10 minutes later I was prepping for my C-section. Merely a coincidence I assure you, but still a huge relief.
I commend you on making it as far as you have. My babies are healthy, but Isabella was only 4lb 14oz, and is still tiny. She just seems to have a harder uphill battle in playing catch up.
Best of luck!!

I totally understand what you are talking about. I feel sometimes that doctors don't understand how hard it is to carry twins. I am 35w 6d and I am 4 ctr. dilated and contract everyday and then everything stops again, again, again, again. My doctor will not induce. He says they will come when they are ready. They wanted to come out at 32wks but the hospital stopped everything and now I am just waiting and everyday it gets harder and harder. If I were you I would insist that they induce... I am ready to tell them that now too. Another problem I am having is that none of the doctors will agree on how to deliver me--- baby a(6lb 4oz) is head down and baby b (5lb 12oz) is transverse. Every doctor tells me something different and that we will just wait and see what happens. Yeah sure, I am not only extremely uncomfortable but now they are telling me that there is a 50% chance that I could deliver 1 vaginally and 1 c section. Whatever! I am over all of this and just want to be done. Hang in there! I have been trying to walk, walk, walk (not very easy with 12 lbs of baby). I was told not to have sex? Why?

Kerri,
Your situation sounds just like what I'm headed for. I have been so frustrated not getting any answers on when I can deliver. I'm not too far behind you (34 weeks 2 days), and we know the positions of both babies is breech, yet scheduling a C-section seems to be like asking for a piece of rock from Mars. If I didn't have other children to find care for (ALL of our family lives at least 2 states away), it might not feel so frustrating, but I'd really like to plan.
My doc says that if baby A is heads down, he can deliver the 2nd one vaginally also...but it's only because he is experienced in turning babies (external cephalic version is what it's called). If your doc has no assurance of delivering the 2nd one vaginal, then I would definitely INSIST on the C-section. For one thing, I called my hospital to get prices on the different types of delivery and it costs MORE to have the first one vaginal and 2nd one Sectioned, than it does to have both by C-section. Also, you don't want to be so tired from the vaginal delivery then have to go into the C-section...I've heard from other moms that it makes a huge difference on your exhaustion level.
Well, I hope it all works out for you. I had no idea how different this twin thing was going to be compared to my singletons! Oh yea, I think I heard that if you are dilated and you have sex you can cause an infection???? Anyone else heard that?
Good Luck, Kathrine

Hello all, the reason I haven't answered these posts is because the day after I started this thread (the worst day of my life) I experienced one of the best days of my life. The day after this experience (where I basically signed out of the hospital because I was tired of thier indecisivness) I started to have regular painful contractions at about 5min apart the next morning. I let the contractions continue for about an hour. I took a bath (which you are not supposed to do) So we drove back to the hospital. In triage they were saying that I was 3cm (not really changed since the night before) but the contractions were so painful and regular I knew that I was in labor plus I passed my mucous plug. They called my doctor and he said to go ahead and rupture my bag to begin the induction. When the resident attempted this...low and behold I had already ruptured (in the tub?) To make a long story less long. They gave me an epidural and I went to complet in 20minutes. 3pushes and twin A (Niela) was out and 2 more pushes and twin B (Lailah)was out. No NICU stay...no respirators...all three of us went home after 48hrs. I AM SOOOOO HAPPY!

Congratulations on your little ones. Wow, what a birth story you'll have to tell them when they are older. How sweet. Enjoy them.

Congratulations, I am so happy it all turned out well and fast. You deserved it. I was hoping this was the case when I didn't see any posts from you the last couple of days.
Enjoy

Congratulations.. I must say that there must be something in this email session, because a few days later and many hours of frustration I went into labor. My water broke on Sept 2(36wk and 6dys) and 2 hours later (with a csection) My beautiful twins were born. Conner(6lbs 1oz) and Kylee (5lbs 10oz). So it just shows to hang in there----- maybe the doctors do know what they are talking about. Good Luck!
