Hello,

I am 15 weeks pregnant with twins and have had one major incident of bleeding at 8 weeks, which the doctors told me was a blood clot, and then some minor spotting at 14 weeks. I have no pain, so I am not worried, but the doctor is making me stop all physical activity. I have such a long way to go that I can't imagine not being able to even go for walks throughout the pregnancy.

Has anyone experienced similar problems? What did you do?

Thanks

Due January 2004

I'm ten weeks pregnant with twins. I started spotting about a week ago. They told me not to worry since there was no cramping and it was very minor and brownish in color. Then a few days later I had major bleeding. I thought I was having a miscarriage which scared me to death 'cause I've had two before, but much earlier on.

A intravaginal u/s showed the babies were just fine and hearts were beating great. They also checked my hormone levels which turned out normal for this stage of pregnancy.

They couldn't really give me a reason, just told me to go home and rest and drink lots of water and to call if it got worse. The heavy bleeding basically stopped, but I'm still spotting brownish stuff. I just want it to STOP completely!

I'm still scared, but it helps to know that others seem to have experienced this too. Can't really give you any advice. I'd love some myself. But I'll keep you in my prayers.

I totally understand what you are feeling right now. When I had my major bleeding event I was out of town and had to got the the ER. After 5 hours of looking they just said - must be a blood clot, just take it easy. I also had brown spotting for over 3 weeks afterwards.

I know it isn't wasy but try not to worry. Everyone tells me that unless you are cramping then there should be no harm to the babies. It is just a huge inconvenience to have to tell the doctor every time I see blood because they end up making a bigger deal out of it then I feel at the time.

How is the rest of your pregnancy going? Are you hungrey all the time? I eat about 6 to 7 times a day and have already gained 17 pounds in 15 weeks. I am not eating bad foods either. I think it is just my lack of excercise. I am scared that I am going to be too big by the time this is over.

Thanks for taking the time to reply.

I spotted once at 6 weeks of pregnancy and had major bleeding at about 14 weeks. I thought I was having a miscarriage. I had a tear in my placenta. They put me on bed rest and things healed themselves.

Good luck to you!

So far, other than the bleeding and spotting, things seem to be going okay.

Yes, I'm hungry constantly. I've even started waking up in the middle of the night feeling hungry. So far I haven't gotten up or bothered my husband to ask to get me something. But he would if I asked him!

Think the spotting may be stopping finally. I just don't want another bleeding episode...too scarey.

When are you due? Are they your first? These will be my first and probably my only ones. We had so much trouble just getting pregnant. Did in vitro.

I don't know if you feel this too, but I really am so psyched and happy, but a part of me tries to be more reserved about it because I'm still afraid. I keep thinking if I can get through the first trimester, I'll be able to relax and enjoy it more. How 'bout you?

Good luck with everything! Keep me posted.

HopeNFaith,

Don't worry you will get through the first trimester. I too felt the contant worry that everytime I went to the bathroom I would see blood and feel that I was in danger. I think it is a normal feeling for women like us who have gone through so much to get pregnant. We tried for three years and finally were able to get pregnant once I had lasercopy and then went on a cycle of Gonel F and IUI. Didn't get to the IVF stage but it was certainly the next step.

I am 35 so these will be our first and last babies. We are due January 16th and will know in three weeks what we are having. Really hoping for one of each so we won't feel like we missed out on anything.

You are much stronger than me by not eating at night. I get up around 4:00 am to have cereal or yagurt almost every night. I could not go back to sleep from the hunger if I didn't.

Hope all is well with you. Congrats and best wishes.

Hi there,

I began spotting at 16 weeks and it scared me to death. Luckily, everything turned out fine, but I was put on bedrest at 24 weeks, my cervix had begun to shorten.

Understand, that a twin pg is high risk. Also know that your goal is to make it as far as possible and to grow those babies as big as possible. In order to do that you must rest and eat healthy.

My dr put my mission quite simply to me, she said, Nicole, remember, every step you take means that your body has to nourish you instead of your babies. That was it for me, I took that very seriously.

That doesn't mean that you will be on bedrest, but with the spotting and the fact that you are having twins, do not take this lightly. You have a mission to do. Don't have any regrets about what you do to accomplish it.

Good luck, you can do this!

I can't tell you how much of a relief it was to read this post....I am 14wks 2days PG and had a major bleeding episode at 12 wks 4days, I thought that the PG was over for sure. I was a total wreck and the doc didn't seem to have any real answers as to why this happened, he knows that it came from baby A's placenta but other than that nada. I was put on complete bedrest for 10 days and then released with major activity restrictions. Even though the bleeding stopped I am still (almost 2wks later) having brownish mucus spotting (TMI), I am so reassured to see that others had this also around the same stage in PG. Thank you!

I also had bleeding around 14-15 weeks. After the first week or so the bleeding diminished a lot, but I did have brown blood for about three weeks. My OB said that as long as my u/s looked good and that the babes had good heartbeats I had nothing to worry about.

I was 14 weeks and i had similar episodes of spotting turned to bleeding. OB told me to limit activity and monitor, went from bright pink to red then brown
U/s showed @ that time that Baby A's placenta was lying low on my cervix (Placenta Previa). My babies are doing excellent and I have been home since then, working from home
I am now 16 weeks and have my next apt 8/6. Hoping and praying.
Don't worry, everything during PG is such a scare but as long as you have a good OB.....and pray, things will turn out fine

Hi Cinditwinmom,

I have 6 1/2 wk old b/g twins and I experienced some spotting while pg with them. It started at 10 wks, and I thought I was having a miscarriage- I'd already been down that road twice before. I went for an u/s the following morning (vaginal) and that is when they discovered I was pg with twins! My spotting continued off and on for about 2 wks. My drs. really never gave me a solid reason for the spotting- It could be related to a small separation in the lining of the placenta, It could be related to implantation to the uterus or it could just be normal for me. I wan't happy with those answers, but the bleeding did stop and never came back. Incidentally, I changed drs. and the next group did an u/s at 16 wks and I did have a partial placenta previa for which they restricted some of my activity- no sex or heavy lifting/straining, etc. So, I don't know if the initial spotting was related to the previa or if that was even present at 10 wks. but the important part is that I carried the babies to 37 wks and had no other complications. So, I certainly know how you feel and I will be sending you positive thoughts for a happy and healthy pregnancy. Best wishes!

I also had some minor brown spotting at 10 weeks. I went in for an ultrasound and that is when we found out we were having twins. At that time they couldn't really give me a reason for the spotting, but said everything was just fine. Well, at 12 weeks I spotted a little again and had another ultrasound. That is when they found that I had a low-lying placenta. I was put on bedrest for about three days to make sure the spotting cleared up and then was advised for the next month, no lifting, no long walks, no intercourse. By my next appointment, the doctor said I could go back to my normal amount of activity and see how it goes. I'm now almost 28 weeks and I haven't had any spotting since...I hope you are comforted by the number of us who have been in the same situation. I know how it feels to be constantly checking though. Good Luck!!

Karen

Hi Ladies,

I also have marginal previa, 16 weeks now abd its has been 2 weeks.
I wanted to know when your placenta migrated?
My OB put me on relative bed rest and i am still spotting daily.
I thought they would want to see me in a week or 2 but next apt a month later.

i am in the process of changing OBs (long story and due unsatisified answers and treatment) now and have apt with the new one on 8/6. i am still worried

I have a friend who had major bleeding around the 3rd month, she was put on bedrest and was able to go off bedrest around the 5th month. Hopefully you won't be on bedrest the entire time, did they ever give a diagnosis?
