Hi everybody

I am 8 weeks pregnant and I had slight vaginal bleeding (brown) which lasted for 5-10 mins. I immediately got an ultrasound done which showed everything was fine. The doctor couldn't figure out the cause of the bleeding. I am really concerned after that. The doctor also said my twins could be sharing the same placenta though its too early to detect that.

All this has made me concerned. Anyone in the same situation as i am.

thanx

Well im not a doctor but to me it seems that you have a high chance of having identical twins. Mine had one plcenta they are boy/girl twins. We did end up developing ttts twin to twin tansfusion. Wich is pretty rare. Congrats on your impending bundles of joy. Oh yes Im not a doctor rember but as I have read alot of wemon have some bleeding earlyon with twins. Brown blood is old blood possilbe an old cysrt that busted.

All that means is that your babies are sharing a Placenta, most likely they are identical. I would not worry just yet. Identical twins have a higher risk to develope problems, but sometimes they are just fine.

We were diagnosed with TTTS and then were UN-Diagnosed and now I am at 36 weeks and 2 days, still working Part time, able to move as much as I want, and due to deliver via Induction for a natural delivery at 38 weeks. July 23rd/24th.

Everything has worked out for us so far and hopefully it does for you too. It's been a bumpy road, but it smoothed it's self out.

You should be seing a specialist however. You regular OB may not have the best education/ experience for dealing with twins. Ask him/her to refer you as soon as possible. You need a high resolution Ultra Sound, they are way better anyway, you can see a lot more clearly and sometimes even have the oportunity to see your babies in 4-D, a new technology that enables you to see features like eyes and noses as they would look in the outside world instead of looking through them as they appear in the Ultra Sound images.

Good luck in your pregnancy and congratulations!!!

Thanks everybody

That was really helpful and reassuring. It is certainly too early to predict anything now, though the doctors have cautioned us. I really hope the bleeding was some old cyst cause i do have a history od PCOS. It certainly is very reassuring to hear stories from people who have been down that road.

Yes,, I am expecting identical twins.
Thanks again

my twins share a placenta also. the docs have determined (with as much accuracy as they can at this time) that i have identical boys.

there is a chance you can get TTTS - but it is not an automatic given. mine did not develop this at all. in fact, they have been perfectly fine the entire pg. they are in separate sacs - which is pretty common with identical twins.

i am on bedrest, but it is because of me and not the babies. at 28.5 weeks i developed pre-eclampsia and pih. so, i am on bedrest for the rest of the pg. however, the babies have done fine this whole time - it is not affecting them at all.

good luck to you! :)

My boys shared a placenta but were in two separate amniotic sacks. We were watched really closely for TTTS and other problems, but none ever developed. They were very healthy when they were born at 37 weeks. Our only problem now is telling them apart ;-)
I remember how scary & nervewracking those first few weeks of pregnancy were. Hang in there. Lots of women have some bleeding & the vast majority are just fine.
I wish you all the best.

I had some bleeding during my first trimester, sometimes it was quite heavy. It was alarming, but harmless.

My twins shared a placenta, and we did develop TTTS. TTTS is relatively uncommon, and it's unlikely you'll develop it. My girls were born prematurely as a result of the TTTS, and there was a size discordance, but in most shared-placenta pregnancies, all goes smoothly ;)

I had bleeding early on when I was 5-6 weeks with my identical twin boys. There was one placenta and 2 sacs. I had one small worn out placenta in the end. The doctors were never quite sure if there was / placentas. Their weights were always within ounces even the week one, but they had ttts at birth without any harm to either. Isaac was l5lb 10 oz,Evan 6lb 14.5 ounces. best of luck try not to worry, but it's so hard not to.

Hi everybody
your replies have certainly been very reassuring. Right now I am having spotting/ Slight bleeding every other day for the last one week. this has certainly scared me but after reading your replies I am keeping my cool. The doctor will see me only if the bleeding gets really heavy and accompanied by pain.

Thank you

Some info that I have either come across or have been told by my drs (I see regular OB's and high-risk OB's).....

Twins who have the same placenta can either be sharing that 1 placenta, or it could've been 2 placentas that were fused together. Like denverduo said, you need to get a high resolution ultrasound and see a high risk OB to get a better idea.

Also, twins can be in the same or separate amniotic sacs, and still be identical.

For now, my tiwns appear to be identical in that they have 1 placenta, are diamniotic and monochorionic. Basically, they are in 2 sacs, but in 1 shell....does that make sense?

I'd go see a high-risk OB to see if they are in separate or same sacs. Not to scare you, but at 1 point, my reg OB thought that my twins were in the same sac and DID NOT refer me to a specialist. I found out on my own the high risk of miscarriage in twins in the same sac. Luckily, I asked to be refered and found out that my boys are in separate sacs and are doing great. It also gives me a chance to see them via ultrasound at every visit, which is cool.

Hope this helps and best of luck!

I'm having fraternal twins and they had separate placenta that fused together before my U/S at 14 weeks. But everything is going just fine. I had spotting early because of a low placenta, but that corrected itself. Good Luck.

My girls shared a placenta and had no problems with the pregnancy. We were watched closely by my regular ob and a perinatologist and managed to escape TTTS and other placenta sharing problems. I did have problems at delivery however. I delivered Audrey vaginally but Sarah was slow to move into position and the placenta abrupted (turned loose from the uterus) early therefore Sarah required birth by emergency c-section. Both babies did fine and came home with me in 4 days even being born at 35 wks 5 days.
