Kristi--
DH is looking up stuff on pre-e...
I se you're on line...
So I'm posting now:

You should go to hospital, do what you have to, grill them for a 2nd opinion.

Make this guy pay attn to you or get another doc to look at you!
Will post again in a sec if DH has anything to add.

Evenwith only 1+ or 2+ urine it could advance quickly and you might be having seizures by Monday - even with strict bedrest. Go to the ER - at least get admitted until Monday so they can monitor you very, very often.

Media- Thanks for checking into it for me. I just talked to a friend of mine and she also said we should go in. Dh gets off work in 2 hours and my mom is coming over to watch Dylan and we will go to L&D. I guess I'll tell them I have a bad headache. I have a slight headache, but probably stress related, but I'll say it's bad. I just hope the dr doesn't send me home for more bedrest. I'm assuming it will be the same dr because my dr's office said this guy is on call for the weekend. Hopefully they'll induce or C-section tonight because all the stuff I've read is really scary about how fast things can change and you don't even know it. I posted over on the what's bugging you too, so I'm going to copy and paste this. Too lazy to retype. Thanks again and I'll let you know how it goes. Hopefully you don't hear from me for a few days- if you do, I guess it means the dr sent us home. :(

Kirsten, what does 1+ or 2+ mean for protein?

DH is reading up in clinical med books...

There is a distinction btw "mild" and "severe" pre-e; w/ "Mild", the diagnosis is to go on strict bed rest and to MONITOR your bp and watch for signs/symptoms (elev. bp, headaches, vision changes).

With "severe", hospitalization and delivery are the resolutions.

The gray arae for you is:

You are at twin term...and you may have "mild" pre-e. So dumb doc is goign to pick the easier of the routes for him, assume you have mild, send you to bed.

Question: Do you have ability to monitor your bp? If not... another reason to get your butt to the hospital (and undercutting doc's prescription for you).

Indications for severe pre-e:

- BP greater than 160 systolic/ 110 diastolic
- protein in urine (proteinuria) greater than 5 grams per 24 hrs; or 3-4+ on dipstick testing
- INcreased serum creatinine greater than 1.2
- Visual disturbances
- Epigastric pain (pain in your stomach/intestines)
- elevated liver enzymes (lab test)
- low platelets (less than 100,000)
- fluid in lungs

Go to teh ER? Go to L&D of the hospital where you're going to deliver, and insist on a second opinion?

Can you get the doc on the phone yourself, or is it always thru a nurse? (eg, when I have an issue that alarms me, if I call my doc's phone number, the on call doc will call me back and discuss my symptoms over the phone).

Be an advocate for your health and babies... Make sure you make this guy listen to you!!!!!!!

In your urine test there's a scale of 1-4+. 1+ or 2+ means there's protein in urine, but not incredibly high--not as high as 3-4+.

When you get the docs on the phone or in person or whatever, you should demand to know your test results and how they're interpreting them!

I hope everything goes well; I think you're OK right now; we just want you to make sure it stays that way.

Hmmm, I don't know what mine was. They gave me a different number. She said if it was over 300, pre-e was diagnosed and mine is 463. I'm trying to find some conversion to the other calculation but haven't found one yet.

I can't remember how 463 would translate to the + system - but I'd go and tell them you have a severe headache so they'll check out everything again. My OB admitted me for observation just with 140/90 and no other signs - I know he'd have you in right now! The contractions and the fact that one baby may already be in slight distress are all reasons to go now. You should be in the hospital this week-end no matter what. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

Kristi,
I completely agree with all that has been said here. I posted to you on the What's Bugging You forum. With pre-eclampsia monitoring is the key and if you're not in the hospital you can't be properly monitored.

I'm really glad that you are going to L&D. Don't let them send you home, even if they try to make you wait until Tuesday at least if you're in the hospital at least you can be monitored.

I'll be thinking of you and those precious babies that will soon be here!

Take Care!

Kristi,
I "see" you here. I would have thought that you would have been at the hospital by now!?!

I was sure that I saw your user name on here. I hope that I was just seeing things and that you are at the hospital getting checked out and properly monitored.

Keeping you in my thoughts!
Take Care!

I am so glad you ladies were online to urge Kristi to go to hosp. I am just flabbergasted by how much your health can be influenced by something as random as who's on call.
I pray she's finding some smart, caring, cautious physicians who are doing all the right things for her right now.

Kristi, I've been reading this over ,and am assuming since you haven't replied that you are in the hospital, probably have the babies by now actually! But I just wanted to say good luck with everything, and I hope it all goes well. I'll be thinking about you!And will be anxiously awaiting along with everyone else to hear your story
