So, I had my 30 week appointment today with my OB. Both babies are head down (they better stay that way) and BP was great...have only gained 25 pounds, but I eat non-stop! :) My doc checked my cervix and said that I was a little open from the outside. I asked her about it, a bit panicky, and she said it is completely normal at this stage, nothing to worry about, etc. Didn't even seem scared when I expressed my concerns about preterm labor/birth (my first set were 34 weekers). I tried to do some research and it seems like this might be a normal thing, but has anyone else had this happen yet. I know it happens more often in 2nd time (or more) parents than in first timers...Just curious!
I go to the peri tomorrow, so I should get a better picture!

That is great that the heads are down. I just had my cervix checked at my 30wk appointment this week too. My OB said he was checking me because with my last pregnancy (single) I was dialated to 1cm at 34 weeks. I did not end up going into labor with that baby until 10 days past my due date. He said the more kids you have the more common it is to dialate early. I hope this helps and I am sure your Peri can give you a better idea of what is going on.

having 6 previous deliveries and one d&c, I've only actually dilated with my 1st to 3cm for over 6 weeks before he was born. The others I was merely a fingertip dilated. I'd presume with the added weight and pressure from 2, it would be normal?

Thank you both for the added reassurance! I really trust my doctor and she knows my worry ways, but when I was explaining it to family, I freaked out again! I will discuss with my peri again tomorrow, but was just a bit worried...even though my OB kept saying that as long as I wasn't funneling (which, I wasn't), then everything was good! I just want 6 more weeks, then I can breathe a bit easier!

I don't know anything about the second time-more dilation thing, but I wanted to say congrats on the good appointment, especially the fact that both are head down! I still can't get my little boy to turn!!

Congrats on your appointment. Hope that you can get a somewhat better answer tomorrow.
